Man who bet on SB safety to donate to charity

In the immediate aftermath of the first-quarter safety in Super Bowl XVLI, when Justin Tuck forced Tom Brady into an intentional grounding penalty while throwing from the end zone, a few writers in the auxiliary press box started looking up the prop bet odds that surely would pay off in a huge way for at least one person.

Well, a guy named Jona Rechnitz had played a $1,000 wager that a safety would occur, and with those 50-1 odds, he suddenly was $50,000 richer. But not for long.

That’s because as TMZ reports (via Yahoo Sports), Rechnitz plans to donate all the post-tax money to various charities, including one of Brady’s choice. Rechnitz, a big Giants fan, also apparently wants to donate $5,000 to the charity of Tuck’s choice.

Even crazier, Rechnitz -- who owns a capital investment firm in Manhattan and who apparently does quite well for himself -- only makes one Super Bowl bet per year. Luckily for him and his future recipients, this year’s wager panned out rather nicely.

it's 50-1 because he bet that a safety would be the FIRST score of the game. 7-1 is just whether or not a safety would occur.

One point I think some people are missing...

Who said the guy was wealthy?  Whether he is or not, I applaud him for his actions.  However, just because he carries "investment" in his job description, does not mean he is wealthy.  You know what happens when you assume.

To be clear, I would not describe an individual who makes 250k a year in New York City, wealthy.  Especially, if he is married with kids.

Hey quadruple, YOU have the FREEDOM to be a captial investment guy too!!! Man the hatred and contempt for the rich that has been ginned up by the left is epic.

A very wealthy guy that wins some money on a bet, gives it to charity and gets blasted for it. Who knows how much more money he gives to charity???

Bill Gates is ultra wealthy and he donates lots of money to charity. Zuckerberg does. Buffet does. Is it ok that those guys make more money in a day than most will make in their life because they are leftists???

Get warmed up in your mom's basement and get back out to you OWS tent city.

Quardruple: You won't find a more anti-corporate guy than me, but come on. It's a sports site. What did you expect? Hard-hitting investigative journalism? A non-sports story on how badly we're being screwed? If you're coming here for that sort of thing, you're in the wrong place. These sites are owned and run by the people you're talking about.

Until they rename this place leftycbssportsandsomeissuesoriented

stories.com, expect any non-sports article to be fluffy and sugary.

But I can see how simultaneous anger and bitterness, intertwined with seething hatred, could be distracting.
