Prior to the 2011 season, it was widely believed that the Eagles would land Plaxico Burress in free agency. That's mainly because Philly housed the last convict-turned-NFL-player in Michael Vick, whether that presumptive logic was right or wrong.

NFL Offseason Begins

Plax, of course, ended up playing for the Jets, and caught 45 passes for 612 yards and eight touchdowns. He'll be a free agent on March 13, though, and according to Howard Eskin of NBC 10 in Philadelphia, he "wants" to play for the Eagles this time around.

"Saw and talked to Plaxico Burress at Super Bowl and told me he wants to play for Eagles," Eskin tweeted on Wednesday. "Badly!"

We also saw Plaxico at the Super Bowl while dining at Mo's Steakhouse in Indianapolis, but we didn't get a chance to ask him any questions, because we were too busy cackling about the wide receiver giving a bro-hug to Jared Fogle of Subway. (We were too stunned to take a picture, but we have witnesses. This really happened.)

Eskin followed up on the tweet with NBC Philly's David Chang, although he wasn't quite as emphatic about it happening.

"I do believe the Eagles will take a hard look at signing Plaxico Burress," Eskin said.

Burress wasn't fantastic in 2011; though he tied for the 11th-most touchdowns in 2011, he certainly wasn't close to the 11th-best wide receiver in the league. He's not going to be a deep threat at his age, but he can be a dangerous red-zone weapon, which is something the Eagles could really use.

If DeSean Jackson isn't franchise-tagged and/or doesn't receive a deal, the Eagles will suddenly be a team in need of a wide receiver. That would likely ramp up the potential interest in a guy like Burress.

Report: Plaxico 'badly' wants to play for Eagles

Plaxico and Vick come from the same area in Virginia I believe...but I do think he would like to have Vick as his QB because he can relate to him and be friends with him.  Yes, being black has something to do with it, but not all of it.  As much as I hate the Eagles, I can see why Plax would want to play for them.  Thing is, to be a good red zone target, which he is, you need a good accurate red zone QB.  Vick is not going to get better from here on out, he's at that age where your body and mind slows down, trust me...I'm there too and played sports all through out high school, college, and a little beyond.

It may work, I'm not positve it won't but Plax better understand that with the Eagles, like the Giants, the inmates don't run the show.  Management does what it wants and they won't be paying you more then 3 million a year to play with them and it'll be a one year contract possibly with a club option for 2013.

Sorry Plaxico Burress, you were once a top 5 receiver, now you are a no. 3 with potential and that will only last for one more year.  Don;t expect any calls from the NYG...even if Manningham leave s we'll have Dom Hixon back who was great before he got hurt (early in the season).  Our core is nasty, young, and all three, four of them are much better then you.

I love how the Eagles fans think the Giants win was luck.  Yep, beating the #1 and #2 seeded team in the NFC and #1 seeded AFC team was luck.  Just so you know, that makes it 4 SB trophies to ZERO - Wow that's luck!

Plax like most african americans is under the assumption Mike Vick is the best qb in the league for some reason, he will quickly learn that he is a washed up bum and Sanchez is not to blame for him sub par season. Vick won't help this bum become the elite wr he thinks he is.

Plax made about 10 big plays all year, and despite being fresh out of prison, still was part of the disgruntled wr group that seemed to cause most of the in fighting. Don't let the gun go off in your pocket on the way out the door!

The Eagles had better "get on the good foot" and try to acquire "Plax" as a replacement for Jackson. I don't know for how long will the Eagles will put-up with his antics because they were a big distraction to the Eagles last season. I like the idea of pairing Jackson with "Plax" together along with Avant at the slot position with Vick being the "trigger-man". I really do feel that "Plax" has always wanted to play for the Eagles from the time that he got out of prison. The Eagles probably didn't want to pursue him because of all the criticism that they received by signing Vick, and because of "Plax's" gun issue, but he kept out of trouble last year while with the Jets so why not give him a look.
