Once upon a time, Cris Carter and Randy Moss were teammates with the Minnesota Vikings. As such, when news arises about Moss, ESPN trots out Cris Carter to make some comments. And over the past couple of days, Carter's managed to make Moss, who recently announced his return to football, something that doesn't resemble happy.

Carter initially said that Moss could hop out of bed and run a 4.3 40-yard dash. But then he added later that Moss has a lot of "quit" in him.

“The one thing you have to address with Randy Moss is not a conditioning thing," Carter said. "It's not an age thing. It needs to be addressed. I believe it's the elephant in the room. It's that thing called quit.

“And Randy, not like any other superstar I've met, he has more quit in him than any of those other players. So I need to addresses that. That's what (New England Patriots coach Bill) Belichick did when he brought him over from Oakland. He told him he wasn't going to have it."

Latest NFL News, Notes

Moss had taken criticism from Carter pretty well, not mentioning it on one of his many USTREAM sessions. He's also been surprisingly contrite since announcing his return. But then he took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon and fired some shots back at his former teammate.

"@criscarter80 its sad how u stroked ur own ego when u were suppose to b my mentor!then u wonder why karma bites u in the ass! #goodlukwithhof," Moss tweeted.

Quick translation: we're not boys anymore. I mean, it's one thing to fire back at Carter for something he did during his career, but ripping Carter for not making the Hall of Fame when one of the arguments against Carter is that Moss overshadowed him in Minnesota is kind of tough.

That being said, Carter stood up on his analyst pedestal and took some shots at a guy who's supposed to be his boy. He shouldn't be surprised if said guy, who doesn't usually operate with a filter in place, fires right back.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

He quit on the Patriots when we played the Jets and they shut him down. Pathetic. Then he had a rant after the game with some media loon. Quiters never win and Moss has not won a thing as a team mate. Jets would be aperfect place for him, the all-quit team this year!

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

Well, That hurt!!! Carter just telling everyone what everyone already knows, I didn't think it was the right thing to say...maybe he should of rephrased it like "He needs to find that spark", or something like that. But Moss is a quiter.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

Moss was great, but hard to defend the "quit" argument from him when we have all seen it.

We have all seen him quit on Oakland and Tenn.
We have all seen him quit when he wasn't getting the ball enough.
We have all seen him quit on routes and blocking when the play wasn't designed for him or near him.

That does seem like a whole lot of quit in him

2 of the biggest jerks who ever put on a helmet slinging excrement at each other is what makes the NFL what it is...a carnival for imbeciles.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

If Carter was half the receiver Moss was the days at Minn. would have been great for both.  But Moss had to carry Carter and they still couldn't win.
KingGhidora2, you obviously don't know football, or at least Minnesota football.  Here are the reception numbers of the 2 WRs during their 4 seasons together, which were at the END of Carter's career, when he was past his prime.  Moss: 69, 80, 77, 82; Carter: 78, 90, 96, 73;  How did Moss carry Carter again?  The guy that Moss supplanted was NOT Carter, but Jake Reed, who, in the 4 years preceding Moss' arrival, averaged 74.25 catches a season, but in the next 2 years (with Carter and Moss...he left for New Orleans for 1 year in 2000 before returning in 2001) caught 34 passes and 44.  That is who Moss supplanted.  It became Moss' team in 2003 when Carter was injured and subequently retired.

Wow shocked, just shocked that an anonymous internet commenter would have the courage to make a racist comment about two black wide receivers that he's never met and knows nothing about from behind his keyboard....I mean REALLY shocked.

Wow, shocked, just shocked that two black wide receivers have a legacy of quitting on their teams and are worried predominantly about themselves...I mean REALLY shocked!
