Once upon a time, Cris Carter and Randy Moss were teammates with the Minnesota Vikings. As such, when news arises about Moss, ESPN trots out Cris Carter to make some comments. And over the past couple of days, Carter's managed to make Moss, who recently announced his return to football, something that doesn't resemble happy.

Carter initially said that Moss could hop out of bed and run a 4.3 40-yard dash. But then he added later that Moss has a lot of "quit" in him.

“The one thing you have to address with Randy Moss is not a conditioning thing," Carter said. "It's not an age thing. It needs to be addressed. I believe it's the elephant in the room. It's that thing called quit.

“And Randy, not like any other superstar I've met, he has more quit in him than any of those other players. So I need to addresses that. That's what (New England Patriots coach Bill) Belichick did when he brought him over from Oakland. He told him he wasn't going to have it."

Latest NFL News, Notes

Moss had taken criticism from Carter pretty well, not mentioning it on one of his many USTREAM sessions. He's also been surprisingly contrite since announcing his return. But then he took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon and fired some shots back at his former teammate.

"@criscarter80 its sad how u stroked ur own ego when u were suppose to b my mentor!then u wonder why karma bites u in the ass! #goodlukwithhof," Moss tweeted.

Quick translation: we're not boys anymore. I mean, it's one thing to fire back at Carter for something he did during his career, but ripping Carter for not making the Hall of Fame when one of the arguments against Carter is that Moss overshadowed him in Minnesota is kind of tough.

That being said, Carter stood up on his analyst pedestal and took some shots at a guy who's supposed to be his boy. He shouldn't be surprised if said guy, who doesn't usually operate with a filter in place, fires right back.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

Carter is right. Moss has always seemed to give up when things were not going as planned. Whenever his team at the time was losing he seemed to basically give up. Would barely run his routes and then he would start arguments with the qb. If he didnt bring all the trouble with him and didnt jump from team to team because he wasnt happy, he could of been the best wideout ever. Maybe even surpassing Jerry Rice. But as it stands i think he has a few more years in him but who would want his baggage?

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

Chris Carter is correct when he says Moss is a quitter. Moss even admitted he takes plays off. If your body language tells the defense that the ball isn't going to you, that hurts your team. Period. Carter says Moss is a quitter. Is he lying ??? Of course not ! And Moss contributed very little combined with the 3 teams he played for in 2010. Every time the little brat doesn't get his way, he takes his ball and goes home.

That being said, if Carter said Calvin Johnson was not a top 5 WR and called him overrated, then he is a dumb jackass ! Calvin is the top wideout in today's NFL, IMO. Look at his numbers even during the year the Lions went 0-16. Carter is right about Moss, but clueless or jealous about Megatron.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

Carter made mistakes and learned from them, while Moss continues to be a problem.  Moss definately lacks motivation on a day to day basis.  As far as Carters comments, it's his job to be unbiased and talk football.  If he said something that happened in the locker room than there's a problem.  Moss is a typical WR (not a compliment) unlike Carter.  Cris is a Hall of Famer and he will be in Canton soon enough.  Randy however is in a class with TO and neither should ever be in Canton.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

Carter was a very smart football player who knew the game well and gave his all.  If he says Moss was quitter, I believe him.

Randy Moss rips Cris Carter for 'quit' comments

I immediately thought about Carter not ranking Calvin Johnson in his top 5 or 10.....whatever it was.  It was plain stupid of him not to just say that he forget about Calvin in his rankings.  No, he had to keep lying about it and say Calvin didn't always run the correct route and other stupid things when Calvin played with less than stellar QB's for his first 4 seasons.  Ask Larry Fitzgerald how that affects a great WR, or ask Steve Smith until Cam Newton arrived last year.  Cris Carter is just really not that bright.

Then he comes out speaking negative about Randy Moss.  Sure, Moss may have a reputation for being lazy and taking some plays off.  But when he plays and he's in the right situation, the man is in the top 5 of the greatest WR's to ever play this game.  I know that if I were Carter, and his supposed mentor......I wouldn't talk negative about my boy!  There really is no reason for that!  Just wish him well, and say that you hope he can rebound.  But, Cris Carter is a knucklehead.  I wonder what his next dumb quote will be!

And with this being said, Carter should be in the hall of fame as a player.  Not as an anylyst!!!!
