Maybe Flacco should just get Brady's contract? (Getty Images)
By Will Brinson

On Tuesday we mentioned that Joe Flacco's camp and the Ravens might start talking about a new contract next week at the 2012 NFL Combine. We also discussed where Flacco fits in terms of the financial quarterback hierarchy, noting that surely he deserves to be paid more than Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb or Ryan Fitzpatrick, $60-million men in their own right.

Apparently, we badly undershot the expectations of Flacco's camp -- Flacco's agent Joe Linta told Matt Vensel of the Baltimore Sun that the Ravens quarterback needs to get the same kind of money that a top-five quarterback would expect.

"If the game is about wins and losses, he has to be in the top five [quarterbacks],” Linta said. “He is a player who has been extremely durable, never missed a game. And he’s done something that no one has ever done. In his four years in the league, he has never missed a game and has more wins than any other quarterback."

Now, the reaction to this "WHAT?" That's understandable, because Flacco, frankly, isn't a top-five quarterback in the NFL. He's probably (definitely?) not a top-ten quarterback either. (If we were picking quarterbacks to start a team looking to win both now and in the future, we'd take Flacco 15th.)

But Linta phrased this perfectly. If the game is about wins and losses, then, yes, Flacco is a top-five quarterback. Only Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith won more games in 2011. And Flacco's won a lot of playoff games and showed that he can perform under pressure in 2011, even if his overall game took a step back.

But Flacco doesn't win those games by himself. The Ravens ranking No. 3 in overall defense in 2011 helped somewhat. As did Ray Rice and Ricky Williams rumbling Baltimore to a top-10 ranking in rushing yards.

The "quarterback wins" argument is a tired one, in our opinion, but one that still holds water, especially when negotiating a contract. But that being said, if Linta can parlay Flacco's NFL career into "top-five money," he'll be the big winner, since every single NFL player should hire him to negotiate their deals.

Agent: Flacco is 'in the top five' for QB money

Stafford is better the Flacco:

Dont need to rank them 1-what ever this is all that needs to be said!!

Elite:  Rodgers,Brady, Brees and Peyton if he can play,  (there is four)

GOOD:  Rivers, Eli, Ryan, Romo, Stafford,Vick, Newton, Schaub

Average: Cutler,Flacco and like you said I dont care at this point.

Flacco is not a top ten, let alone top 5 and I like the Ravens,  and to say Stafford just throws it up,  obvioulsly you did not watch many Lions games,  he is a very good Q.B. and is getting the ball to the best receiver in football.    And as for Faulks comments,   I guess you could say if it was not for his receiving abilities out of the back field, Warner would not have had the numbers he had in St. Louis  and that simply is not the case,  I know it helped a great deal,  but Warner started the play by using his strength on the fields, which made Defenses play their off. differently.
;   Stafford may not ever be Elite like Warner, time will tell, but he can read defenses and made smart plays wether it was to Johnson or some of his other talented receivers,  his INTERCEPTION and Rating  16/ 97.2 tell a story, not only his yards and T.D. to Johnson!!!   Flacco may have only had 12 ints, but his 80 rating and career rating is very average at best!    One could also argue,  Flacco has one of the top 5 running backs, and should have been able to use that to his advantage,  and Detroits running game does not exsist,   you can go on and on,  Stafford is just starting out,  why hate on a guy who throughs for 5000 yards.  I dont dislike Flacco, in fact I have been waiting for him to break out as a Good Q.B. for several years,  Every year its said to be his year, and now his agent is trying to cash in.

I like your list but I have to move Flacco and Schaub up above Romo.  If I was putting together a team  I'd take flacco, Schaub, Ryan, and Stafford before I'd take Romo.  Other then Stafford I think their all bigger winner than Romo and if Stafford stays health another year he would move ahead of this class.

Agent: Flacco is 'in the top five' for QB money

As I said -- If Joe Flacco is a top 5 QB -- Does that mean Mark Sanchez is a top 5 QB??  He "led" the Jets to the AFCCG two years in a row before this year.  He puts up numbers that look an awful lot like Flacco.

My argument was never that Flacco is a top 5 QB. I would put him at 9th or 10th. My argument is that I would rank him higher than Stafford after Staffords one good year and his propensity to just chuck it downfield to all-world WR Calvin Johnson. In other words, a lot of his stats were built on shoot outs and prayers. You know who else had a pretty good year ago, Josh Freeman. Not as good as Staffords, but he also didn't have anyone close to Calvin Johnson on his team. How did he do last year?

Just to clarify due to your inability to get this, here goes:

1. Tom Brady
2. Aaron Rogers
3. Drew Brees
4. Still Peyton Manning
5. Eli Manning
7  Phillip Rivers
8. Tony Romo
9. Matt Schaub
10. Joe Flacco
11. Matt Ryan
12. Jay Cutler
13. Matt Stafford
14. Mike Vick
15. who cares at this point
Just my opinion of Stafford. Which also is shared by Marshal Faulk apparently.

Agent: Flacco is 'in the top five' for QB money

This is hilarious.  Flacco, a top five QB?  LOL!  If Baltimore wants to throw money down the toilet then go ahead and pay him what he and his agent want.  Average Joe is not even in the top 10 QB's in the league BUT he does come in a resounding 11.  Let's face it he isn't really that good.  He cannot carry a team and single handedly take them to a title, like top 5 QB's can.  Let him prove himself and get to a Super Bowl and WIN a Super Bowl then lavish him with "what HE THINKS he derserves"!  When did Baltimore ever reward mediocrity?

Agent: Flacco is 'in the top five' for QB money

Even if I am a big Ravens fan, I have to disagree with both Joe Flacco's agent and with the author of this article in where they place Joe Flacco.  I can think of at least 8 QB's who are better than Flacco-Brees, Rodgers, Brady, P. Manning, E. Manning, Rivers, M. Ryan, and Roethisberger.  Hasselbeck, Vick, and Romo were in their primes, but are on the downswing.  Flacco, deserves good money because of what he has done-gotten statistically better each year and helped them to the playoffs in each of his 4 years, but he is not as good (yet) as a lot of QB's and much better than most.  And he did have help, 2 good, young tight ends, a good 1-2 punch set of running backs, a deep threat in Torrey Smith and a good hands veteran receiver in Anquan Bolden.

Flacco is the most pathetic QB out there. No one believes in him and for a good reason. His whole demeanor is just depressing and no team can with superbowl witha QB like him. Also this picture is great. These two had true love at first sight.

I'm a big fan of Flacco, but his agent's comment is the equivalent of starting a chess match with a knee to the groin. Seems like this emanated from some kind of desperation.

You cannot argue that he doesn't have a 'top 5' moustache.

Agent: Flacco is 'in the top five' for QB money

A Qb is only as good as his defense. Flacco has a stellar defense and isn'r required to put up big numbers. I think I clearly stated that in my previous post. Point being, if you put Flacco on the Lions and Stafford on the Ravens, Flacco and Stafford, I think you would see similar numbers. Only Flacco has proven he can do it, more than one year. LMAO.
I'm curious what Flacco has done for more than one year???  Ride the coattails of his defense and running game???  Put up middle of the road numbers for a NFL QB???

As I said -- If Joe Flacco is a top 5 QB -- Does that mean Mark Sanchez is a top 5 QB??  He "led" the Jets to the AFCCG two years in a row before this year.  He puts up numbers that look an awful lot like Flacco.

I'm sorry -- but no QB with a 80 QB rating and completing 57% of his passes in his 4th season in the NFL is anywhere near a top QB.  He is a slightly better version of Alex Smith.
