By Will Brinson

Broncos quarterback Brady Quinn will be a free agent on March 13. While he didn't make our list of top free-agent quarterbacks (although he was honorable mention!), he'll likely end up landing a backup job somewhere for the 2012 season.

Just don't count on it being Denver, at least based on the quotes he gave Mike Silver for an oral history of Tebowmania in the latest issue of GQ.

"Early in the season, there was a game when Kyle [Orton] got hurt and the coaches were calling for me to go in, but Kyle got up and finished the game out," Quinn said. "So I was the second-string guy. Then, a few weeks later, they decided to put Tim in. I felt like the fans had a lot to do with that. Just 'cause they were chanting his name. There was a big calling for him. No, I didn't have any billboards. That would have been nice."

This is a harmless quote. You don't have to be a backup quarterback to want billboards pulling for you all over the town you live in.

But Quinn's comments took a different tone as his comments continued throughout the article.

"We've had a lot of, I guess, luck, to put it simply," Quinn said, recalling the Broncos memorable overtime win over the Bears.

Again, more or less harmless. Marion Barber running out of bounds and then fumbling is the definition of luck. It's not the greatest thing in the world to say about your (former?) teammates, especially if you want your job again in 2012, but it's not incendiary. But how do you feel about the way Tim acts off the field, Brady?

Latest NFL News, Notes

"If you look at it as a whole, there's a lot of things that just don't seem very humble to me," Quinn said. "When I get that opportunity, I'll continue to lead not necessarily by trying to get in front of the camera and praying but by praying with my teammates, you know?"

Annnnnnd ... scene. At least on Quinn's career with the Broncos. Remember, they shipped Kyle Orton out of town because he was going to be a pain in the locker room. And they already know what they've got in Quinn (read: a guy who can't beat out Tebow for the backup job).

The Broncos said they want to bring in two more quarterbacks to generate some competition, but they're unlikely to bring in (or back) anyone who might truly try and undermine Tebowmania in Denver. If you're coming out to Mile High, you've got buy into the idea that you're going to get pelted with foam crosses should you win the starting gig.

But maybe Quinn's comments in the magazine aren't as bad as represented. Quinn released a statement on Twitter Tuesday afternoon refuting the nature of his comments in Silver's article.

"The comments attributed to me in a recent magazine article are in NO WAY reflective of my opinion of Tim and the Broncos," Quinn tweeted. "Tim deserves a lot of credit for our success and I'm happy for him and what he accomplished. Most importantly, he is a great teammate. That interview was conducted three months ago, and the resulting story was a completely inaccurate portrayal of my comments.

"I have addressed my disappointment with the writer and have reached out to Tim to clear this up. I apologize to anyone who feels I was trying to take anything away from our Team's or Tim's success this season."

Quinn backtracks on Tebow 'humble' comment

Now you guys see: more is being revealed as I released this information with many post last year.
LOOK AT THAT!!!! A Tebow thread and look who shows up to spew his HATE!!!!!! the Tebow hater is back!!! Again, i want to see WHERE Leak and Newton both said they didnt like Tebow.
The media decided to post it but I posted this months ago.
because you HATE Tim Tebow, Why dont you just admit this ftball??? just admit it, it's not hard.
all the rage for a QB, I say he might be roiding.
oh, how you accuse him of roiding!!!!! Your hate is INSANE, People, when you want to see a definition of a hater, Look for THIS type of poster!!! i mean, saying he's a bad QB is one thing, but accusing him of being a false Christian and now roiding is just insane, where's the proof ftballgenius, going to find a photoshopped picture of Tebow with a needle next???
Yet all over the internet are clips of him partying in Vegas, drinking with friends and hanging out in late night spots.
yet, i told you that we live in a world where things CAN BE photoshopped!!!! how do you know that was Tebow??? there are ways to make a person look bad, Remember the article i found about Newton arrested on a public beach!!?? anyone with the ability can post false information to make any player look bad.
In college I remember when he didn't want to give te back-ups playing time to build his stats.  That is real humble isn't it.

oh good night you are losing it now ftballgenius, did you even see Cam Newton's stats in his freshmen year!!!!! that's giving his backup playing time isnt it!!!! jeez and SECOND, why didnt Newton say something!!! i will tell you why because he never did, he likes Tebow.

I'm thinking this hypothetical team you describe may exist in pop Warner. If you have to get the guy a perfect situation for him to put up reasonable numbers....then he isn't THE guy. He is a whinner instead of a winner. GQ is for $?!'xies not football players.

intelligence and facts will eventually prevail

Fact: The Broncos were 2-14 in 2010 and 1-4 to start 2011.  Enter Tebow.  The Broncos not only win the AFC West, but beat the Steelers in the playoffs.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

This reminds me of the friend we all have who is trying to be an instigator. You say something harmless but true to a friend like "your mom forgot to put spaghetti sauce on the spaghetti." Your other friend then says "ohhh, he said your mom can't cook, you going to take that?"  That's what the media is doing here. They're trying to start a fight between Quinn and Tebow that really isn't there from his comments. It's the way of the media to generate headlines, buzz and most importantly $. You can't blame them necessarily but a lot of people don't see through this and they get caught up. Boy I can't wait to hear ESPN talk about this on every single show they have.

Oh so what's a good role modle? Is it someone who goes and has sex with every girl he sees? Is it someone who goes and get drunk and does drugs? Is it someone who steals? Well he does none of those so doesn't that make him a good role model? You must have a differnet idea of what a role model is.

insert "to" between got and buy.  Not as hard as you're making it out.  OK to complain, and their lack of standards IS disturbing, but you're exaggerating when you claim your can't comprehend what the writer obviously intended.

I am a born again Christian, but am not a Tebow fan.  I just don't really like the Broncos and didn't like the Gators either.  I guess he is a very good guy and at least publically he has deep faith, so in that respect I like that about him.  However, there are many other athletes with a similar faith stance and personality.  I think it is nuts that so many people are divided over this guy about his outspoken faith.  He is just a guy who plays football and has faith in Jesus Christ.  I know many people who do other jobs and love Jesus too.  Can't see why this is a big deal.

i DO NO like Tim Tebow. As a player he stinks, and as a role model, we will see one day when they find a pound of crack in the trunk of his car and his lazy ho girlfriend on TMZ.
