Terrell Owens, looking to get back into pro football, did just that Saturday night in his debut for the Allen (Texas) Wranglers of the Indoor Football League, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Owens caught three passes for 49 yards and three touchdowns in Allen's 50-30 opening victory at home over the Wichita Wild.

“I think I did all right,” Owens told the Morning News. “I’m just really trying to keep myself in shape for the most part. I feel like I’m healthy enough to play football. There’s not anything that I can’t do.”

The 38-year-old was on the field for 38 plays and was targeted five times in front of a crowd of 5,711. Wranglers owner Jon Frankel told the Morning News that the crowd was larger than the total home attendance for the 2011 season.

Owens hasn’t caught a pass in an NFL game since Dec. 12, 2010 and is using the IFL club as a hopeful springboard to an NFL tryout. He possesses an opt-out clause, in case an NFL franchise offers him a contract. However, after having a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee repaired last year, he hasn’t received much interest from NFL teams.

Facing some press and man-to-man coverage, Owens did not catch a pass in the third or fourth quarters.

Owens catches 3 TD passes in IFL debut

Good God, Rev...(no pun intended)...speaking of soapbox, geez!  The guy poisoned every single locker room he ever entered and has alienated himself from the NFL.  No one wants a thing to do with that clown.  That doesn't exactly spell "winner" to me.

Do we forget T.O. is a beast athlete with healing powers usually reserved for comic book heroes, that he is one of the greatest WRs of all time, and that he is a big bodied receiver who can really on size and strength in his later years? Everyone kicking a man that obviously has a raging fire to compete, albeit misplaced and manifesting throughout his career, should respect the effort and sure steadfastness in his goal. If the NFL doesn't want him he may go down as the greatest IFL receiver of all time. Dont hate, just laugh and let the man do what he does.

it doesn't change the fact that he performed at a super high level in that league for many years. Ergo, idiot, he is not a loser just because his career is over. Are Montana, Unitas, Elway, Young, Bradshaw, etc, etc all losers because they are done.

On-field performance isn't the sum of a player's life.  Did any of these other players you listed blow through all of their money, set up a lame reality show to get some of it back, or have to play in a D-league just to pay his bills?

Simply cashing in on one's God-given talent doesn't make a great man.  His true colors will surface, one way or the other....and it's become pretty clear to most (present company excluded) that there's not much substance or intelligence in Owens' life.

P.S.  In the future, should you want to impress your readers, try to be mature and avoid personal criticism of those you don't know.  It doesn't take much intelligence to put together a profanity-laced tirade of a personal attack.  That sounds like something Owens would do....

So is there any room in the NFL for a receiver who is mediocre at best but completely ruins team chemistry because he thinks he should get 18 balls thrown his way a game? Just think if he was a humble player, playing out his twilight with class like Rice, Carter, or Brown and energized or led his team. I still think he is a hall of famer, but could have been the best ever with people actually liking him.

If TO is going to play for the IFL then he's going to play for the IFL, it's not going to be any springboard back to the NFL, because there's no way any owner of any NFL team is going to want TO, not even for a 2nd or 3rd string WR, and that's the straight up truth. I like the guy but im just being real, he's 38 now and will be 39 before the year is out, it's not gone happen for him, just move on to something else.
