INDIANAPOLIS -- If you thought it was impossible for NFL people to fall more in love with Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, you thought wrong. RG3 proved exactly why on Sunday, shredding the 40-yard dash and looking as fast as expected en route to running an official 4.41 40-yard dash.

Andrew Luck, not exactly known as a speedster, was perhaps more impressive with his unofficial 4.59 40 time, later changed to a 4.67 official time.

Griffin's time (both officially and unofficially) was the second-fastest by a quarterback since 2006, with only Reggie McNeal's time of 4.35 in 2006 beating him out. Russell Wilson of Wisconsin ran a 4.50 40 for the second-fastest time of the day, and Jordan Jefferson of LSU ran a 4.59.

The bump up from unofficial to official doesn't matter too much; Griffin got below 4.4 seconds on an unofficial time and that's all people around the league really need to see.

Griffin ran track at Baylor (and in high school) and his performance at the combine -- on the field, in front of the mic, wherever -- has only continued to cement his status as a lock for top-five status in the NFL draft.

It would be stunning, honestly, if RG3 fell further than the second pick. There's a strong belief that the Rams will hold an auction for the No. 2 pick and that someone will pay a hefty price to move up and grab Griffin.

Which is why folks in St. Louis should be enjoying this almost as much as teams who are chasing Griffin are.

Not sure why this is news or why the scouts are getting giddy.  Did they not watch this kid in college?  Did they not scout him not only on the football field but watch his track exploits?  If a scout is just learning that RGIII is fast than they need to be fired because it's something they should have known prior to this workout.  I would be more interested in everythnig other than his speed because that has been a given since he stepped on the campus at Baylor and scouts had three years to take notice.

Except Buffalo Never won a Super Bowl. Why college atheles go to Buffalo is to get paid to play football. They do it for the money. Buffalo is not glamour spot but the ego driven. That is the danger of hype, they think it is about them. The divas want the spotlight, they want the commericals and they want the glory. RG3 is a canidate. You want him on your team, good, I hope he turns out be the next Drew Brees. The city itself was a cool place to grow up, what has happened to it is no different than Detroit, Cleveland, and Pittsburg. Though I give high marks to Pittsburg, no divas on that team.

RG3 runs 40 in 4.41 seconds, Luck goes 4.67

Seems like the same dudes that were dogging cam newton last year are back here on the boards going after another running Qb. You guys were wrong about Cam newton so why do u think you have this one right. The truth is we will never know. My personal feeling is Luck is over hyped. He was given the hiesman last year before even playing . For the last 3 years he was predicted to be first pick. Then this RGIII Guy comes out of no where and takes his heisman from him. The kid is talented I would take him over Luck Cause of his intanglables. We seen what smart QB's do from smart schools. Not to many championships If indy gets rid of manning. I would rather have rgIII back there not taking shots then luck taken shots. Just my opinion

RG3 runs unofficial 4.38 40, Luck goes 4.59

And to the poster who mentioned Moon having never won a SB. I saw Warren tear up Michigan's defense in his senior in the Rose Bowl, and just knew that he would be drafted. We all know why he wasn't, and in my humble opinion he might have reached and possibly won a SB if not forced to play a lot of his career in Canada. Let's stop comparing QB's based on their race. If the playing field was even all these years anyone with a brain, and common sense knows that Doug Williams would not be the only black QB with a SB win.

Well put DaBears.  I could not agree more.  Hes a good character kid, I'd love to have him on the Broncos, but he'll never last that long.  I think wherever he goes, Cleveland, probably, he will be an instant star, and will be a beloved player in that town.  Cleveland needs a guy like that.

I agree with some of your post, but I saw Griffin light up defenses with his arm too! And not for just one year as some suggest. Too me value is a kid that put up great numbers while graduation in 3 years, and from all accounts is a quality individual on, and off the field. I think most teams value that as well, which is why Griffin is being touted as a top 5 pick, while your 6' 8 QB from ASU is regarded as a project. Just saying...

The 40 time is impressive, no doubt.  But I have to say I am more impressed with RG3 after watching his interview on the NFL Network a few minutes ago.

He's a very smart, well spoken young man and I think those qualities will help him improve his draft stock as much as the physical ones.  Not only did he talk about the things he does well, but he understands what he needs to improve in order to play in the NFL.

We'll see which team drafts him, but I think whoever gets him will get a player who is prepared to work hard to develop and improve.

I really hope my Rams don't screw this up.  They can get multiple picks for Griffin AND still get Kalil or Blackmon....please, please, please don't "F" this up St. Louis!
