INDIANAPOLIS -- If you thought it was impossible for NFL people to fall more in love with Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, you thought wrong. RG3 proved exactly why on Sunday, shredding the 40-yard dash and looking as fast as expected en route to running an official 4.41 40-yard dash.

Andrew Luck, not exactly known as a speedster, was perhaps more impressive with his unofficial 4.59 40 time, later changed to a 4.67 official time.

Griffin's time (both officially and unofficially) was the second-fastest by a quarterback since 2006, with only Reggie McNeal's time of 4.35 in 2006 beating him out. Russell Wilson of Wisconsin ran a 4.50 40 for the second-fastest time of the day, and Jordan Jefferson of LSU ran a 4.59.

The bump up from unofficial to official doesn't matter too much; Griffin got below 4.4 seconds on an unofficial time and that's all people around the league really need to see.

Griffin ran track at Baylor (and in high school) and his performance at the combine -- on the field, in front of the mic, wherever -- has only continued to cement his status as a lock for top-five status in the NFL draft.

It would be stunning, honestly, if RG3 fell further than the second pick. There's a strong belief that the Rams will hold an auction for the No. 2 pick and that someone will pay a hefty price to move up and grab Griffin.

Which is why folks in St. Louis should be enjoying this almost as much as teams who are chasing Griffin are.

RG3 runs unofficial 4.38 40, Luck goes 4.59

No doubt, wonder if its just a mess up with the photo, or he was wearing special contacts...probably not, but still odd looking.

Take it down a notch son, you are not a judge. If you have an opinion state it. Calling other posters names is childish. If you disagree, state your case. I played a lot of football, been a fan of the game since the 60's.  I have seen people come and go, one just tires of the hype.  I am a Bills fan, if RG3 was available in the 10- slot, I would pass on him. There is a much better QB available and he comes from Arizona State.  Second round maybe third, a year or two on the bench and what you have is the 6-8 QB that can light up a defense with him arm. That is value, RG3 is hype. People like the hype, some teams can not afford it. Buffalo is one of those teams, with them it is bring the lunch bucket, not the camara crew.

Amazing how much of freakish athletes these guys are. Now even the QBs are such as Tebow, Newton, and now RGIII.

Times change. Vick was the qb for his system at VT. He made it work against much stronger competition. Many have only seen RG3 once or twice.  If passing numbers in college were so vital to success in the pro's, then Houston QB's would dominate the league.

I have nothing against the guy. He is not going to the Bills, so I can elvaluate him with no bias. He is fast, young and smart. He is in competition with people that are fast young and smart. I hope they all get paid. RG3 is a great college QB, but he must develop. He is not Cam Newton, because he is a tad more slender.

Young had all the tools. He hyped just like this. Then the NFL happened.

If you hold the opinion that RG3 is ready for nfl defences, you are a true fan of his. Forgive me if I heard this before. The one good thing about all of this, is that the contracts for drafting a QB this high won't sink a franchise, set them back for sure, but not like before.
