Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert posted a letter to Cavs fans regarding LeBron James on the team's website tonight, and it is truly shocking. In the letter, Gilbert lays into James (passively aggressively, never once using the word "LeBron" and using "James" only once) for what he refers to as a "cowardly betrayal. " He talks about the ridiculous spectacle of James' television special. He tells Cleveland fans they deserve more than the betrayal they received.

And then the kicker.

You see, he wrote in Comic Sans so that you would know he's serious.

Gilbert's letter is clearly an emotional reaction an emotional situation. The franchise, who they had specifically built the entire organization around, has left them. But to paint James' departure as a cowardly betrayal is a bit much. Danny Ferry had years to build a championship organization around the best player in basketball, and instead always opted for the safe way out. The easy route. The compromise value deal. Acquiring players like Wally Szczerbiak and Ben Wallace and even Antawn Jamison were safe moves that involved no real risk and yet never capitalized on the big move. Meanwhile, James saw the Lakers and Celtics win championships with all out moves to surround their best players with top tier talent.

Gilbert has taken control of his own message, and it's clear. LeBron James is dead to the Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland as far as he's concerned. James may not have wanted to burn bridges in his hometown, but tomorrow, he'll wake up and smell the smoke.

That part of his life is over. Forever.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

Way to prove me right fat man. I previously posted:

I think it's hilarious all these people saying "Lebron gave them seven good years." Like we weren't worthy to watch our homegrown talent play in his own hometown. Realistically, we got four and the other three was simply a build up of hype culminating to this day. I guarantee you are the same people who called him "Queen James" and made fun of him for having zero championships. But now, all of the sudden that he is leaving Cleveland, Lebron was so nice and generous to let us be worthy enough to let us watch him play.

The national media and tools from these "big market towns" are absolute retards. I guarantee you if Lebron grew up in New York, was drafted by New York, never won a championshop in New York then mailed it in on the final playoff game of his career and flee to Miami with two superstars...He would have been crucified!!!

Dan Gilbert, Sir, your a Idiot.  The Cavaliers will win a title before Lebron James and the Miami Heat.  LOL don't make me spew my Pepsi all over my Laptop.  What are you a high schooler? You sound so immature and infantile, I can see why James Left.  And by the way who the eff are you anyway?  Your from Detroit anyway it's not like your the jilted son of Cleveland, this was just a business transaction to you, Go back to Mowtown with the rest of the malcontents in that town.  Your a professional business man, act like it

My Reply:

Please!!! Will someone from LA, New York, Chicago, Miami or any of these "major market" teams explain to me where you get your sense of entitlement from? Hate to break it to you but the town your born in or decide to move to doesn't make you a somebody. It just so happens to be the town you dwell in.

In fact, if you took a simple sociology course in college you would know that 95% or more of the time the family income you are born in is where you are most likely to fall in. Additionally, one will most likely live within a 50 mile ratius of where your born. Having a sports team with championships or living in a big city gives you or others no reason to look down on society because there is only a 5% chance you actual earned what you have. Dan Gilbert is a self made billionaire and I highly doubt anyone on here is. So please do....humor ye nobels of major market, I am not worthy!!

Thank you Dan Gilbert..and Moore you're a Jacka$$

Thank you Dan Gilbert for saying the thing that everyone wanted to say in Cleveland for the past 3 years. This city was held hostage by an immature, fragile, egotistical baby and we took it. I'm glad Dan finally had the balls to say the thing that everyone who had ever come across James or his 'team' in the city---they're arrogant punks who crave fame and attention and don't want to work to get it.  And sorry Moore but Ferry never took the easy way out, reporters who say that take the easy way out. You have no idea what deals were available. We took what was there and we spent and paid dearly for it but at the end of the day we had an owner that did EVERYTHING he could to provide a championship to this city. The only problem was we had a star player that completely gave up and quit.  We're better off without him. And we're better off with Dan Gilbert.

Good for Dan. HE said what was on Clevelander's minds for the past 3 years but were too afraid to say because they were being held hostage by a kid in his 20's who could shoot a basketball. We're better than him and I'm proud to have an owner that believes that too.

You just don't understand. You have a class act like Duncan who conducts himself with class and respects his fans, family, and the Spurs. Ask anyone in Cleveland, Lebron is just not that type of high character guy.  This town, this owner, and this team gave him everything he wanted, asked for, and beyond and he went on national television to tell us it wasn't enough. It's not that he left, it's how he left. And it's the way he's carried himself since day one and no one had the balls to say anything until now. I applaud Dan Gilbert and I'm a bigger Cavs fan than I ever was under the 'king's' reign.
