Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert posted a letter to Cavs fans regarding LeBron James on the team's website tonight, and it is truly shocking. In the letter, Gilbert lays into James (passively aggressively, never once using the word "LeBron" and using "James" only once) for what he refers to as a "cowardly betrayal. " He talks about the ridiculous spectacle of James' television special. He tells Cleveland fans they deserve more than the betrayal they received.

And then the kicker.

You see, he wrote in Comic Sans so that you would know he's serious.

Gilbert's letter is clearly an emotional reaction an emotional situation. The franchise, who they had specifically built the entire organization around, has left them. But to paint James' departure as a cowardly betrayal is a bit much. Danny Ferry had years to build a championship organization around the best player in basketball, and instead always opted for the safe way out. The easy route. The compromise value deal. Acquiring players like Wally Szczerbiak and Ben Wallace and even Antawn Jamison were safe moves that involved no real risk and yet never capitalized on the big move. Meanwhile, James saw the Lakers and Celtics win championships with all out moves to surround their best players with top tier talent.

Gilbert has taken control of his own message, and it's clear. LeBron James is dead to the Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland as far as he's concerned. James may not have wanted to burn bridges in his hometown, but tomorrow, he'll wake up and smell the smoke.

That part of his life is over. Forever.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

If Gilbert is so outraged with James' decision, then why doesn't he take down the LeBron jerseys he's selling on his website?

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

why do dumb writers say the cavs should have won with the best player in the NBA on their team??  Best player?? Lebron is best athlete but a horrible basketball player.  Kobe is ten times a better basketball skilled player. I hate these idiots saying Lebron is the best, he's not even top 10 in the NBA.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

The Cavs owner's comment lacks much class and just his own selfish indignation which speaks loudly about himself.    Maybe he is why Bosh or even Wade did not want to come to Cleveland?  Reminds me of a verbally controlling boss or marital partner.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

I'm glad he said it because I was thinking the same type of way. I'm a Bulls fan, but not matter where he went besides Miami he could have proved his worth. Now he's just going along for the ride, what a coward. He wants to be considered with MJ? Really? No way no how, not ever now! Oh they will win several rings together...they better or his name is mud. What a pathetic man!

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

Gilbert rips James on the Cavs website and has nothing but bad things to say about him, but if given half the chance he would drop to his knees and blow James in public to have him back on the Cavs. I don't like James either, and I also think the 1 hr. special was a mockery of sports television, but I wonder if Gilbert would have had the same thought if James would have chosen Cleveland.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

the Owner of the Cavs has no loyolty after firing the coach with the best regular season record the last two years. If the Owner listened to James about bringing Shaq and Jaminson there ,he is stupid.Lebron is a ball player ,not a coach or GM ,or owner. Its their job to find the right players to play for the team, not Lebron jobs.I would never listen to a ball player about who to bring. That just shows you how bad the Cavs are.Plus all you Cleveland fans saying Lebron is not loyol.where were all of you before Lebron started playing for the Cavs. The Cavs hardly sold out games until Lebron got there. You loyol Cavs fans where not around until Lebron came into the NBA.Did the Cavs sell out every home game before Lebron got there ,no they didn't.Phony fans are fans who jump on board when their team is winning and jump off as soon as they start losing. Why stay on a team who didn't even try to make room  to bring him another free agent. The Heat did it.The Cavs knew this day was coming and still the did nothing to keep him there. They fire the coach Lebron liked and blamed everything on that coach .When it was the owners and GM fault for not getting the right players for Lebron. You Cleveland fans should be mad at the Owner for not doing his job. There are not alot of players wanting to play for the Cavs.Lebron gave them 7 years when most players would of left after 4 or not join the team at all.Be happy he helped the city of Cleveland make some money the last 7 years. The owner betrayed the coach he fired. The Cavs fired their coach because he couldn't win in the playoffs and Lebron fired the Cavs for the same reason. The Owner is the cause of all the problems here. The Owner is one stupid person. He thought Lebron would come back after he fired the coach.Plus Shaq is gone and the Cavs owner didn't even try to make a move the last 3 weeks.Maybe if he did Lebron would still be there.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

Who cares!!! He did what most pro athletes do every year. They are a selfish bunch of parasites who feed off of our emotions and our money. We as fans are the real fools here buy buying tickets, jerseys and so on and so on. It’s about time we as fans wake up and see what these people are really about. If they couldn’t play sports most would be ditch diggers or working at a local fast food restaurant.

Cavs owner eviscerates James for "betrayal"

LeBron James is dead to the Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland as far as he's concerned.
As far as I am concerned, this statement sums it up.... Not even a phone call to DG before James goes on National TV to announce he is leaving.... This move was planned and he could have been transparent and not handcuffed a team and a city that also gave a lot back to him as he gave to us over the years.  Every single person has the right to be happySo does this mean with all the dancing, laughing, chest bumping and goofing around for the past several seasons that James was not happy in Cleveland and living in his "hometown"..   give me a break.  He gave his word he would bring a championship to Cleveland and I feel the organizations showed that $$ was no object.. His word means sh#%..we are talking about a team that led the NBA in regular season wins, but didn't show up in the post season- including James giving up against Boston.  I don't think this is his pursuit of happiness... its him taking the easy route and teaming up on D-Wade's team.. what a joke
His legacy will be the guy who quit on his team and city and didn't fulfill his promise of leading his team to a championship in Cleveland.  Instead he skipped town to play wingman to D Wade...  They should call that team The Miami Mouseketeers!!
