The Heat are wasting no time in filling out the active roster. Late Thursday night (or early Friday morning, depending on your location) news broke from Mike Miller's dad that the Heat were intending to sign Mike Miller .

Miller is from South Dakota, so I guess that's where we send his Luckiest Basketball Player in the World Award.

After shipping Michael Beasley to Minnesota for basically nothing, the Heat had a little cap room to play with. And Pat Riley and Miami wasted no time whipping out the checkbook. According to the report, Miller will sign a five-year, $30 million deal.

Miller also had offers from New York and the Clippers, with the Clipper offer being worth a significant amount more, the report said. Also, mentioned, Miller won out over Kyle Korver and Rasual Butler, mainly because of an endorsement from LeBron.

But Miller is just the beginning for the Heat. Since they moved Beasley, but now added Miller, the Heat have five players on the active roster, sans Joel Anthony who has a qualifying offer of about $1 million. Miller's $6 million a year will eat up virtually all of Miami's remaining cap space. That means a bevy of veteran minimum salaries are about to be handed out and as Ira Winderman mentioned in his story, the list isn't that long or that sexy.

Among the names available still: Raja Bell , Larry Hughes , Flip Murray, Zydrunas Ilgauskas , Devean George , Brian Skinner , Damien Wilkins, Trenton Hassell , Jarvis Hayes, Jason Williams, Keyon Dooling , Eddie House , Etan Thomas and Ime Udoka.

Of course Miami still has its three second-round picks it could sign (Dexter Pittman, Jarvis Varnado, Da'Sean Butler) and as Winderman says, could re-sign some lesser Heat players from a year ago (Shavlik Randolph, Kenny Hasbrouck). Finally, there are still undrafted players to be had, like Jon Scheyer and Brian Zoubek of Duke, Art Parakhouski from Radford, Denis Clemente (a native of Miami) from Kansas State, Scottie Reynolds from Villanova and Matt Bouldin from Gonzaga, among others.

Non of this bothers me. I always knew that LeBron does not belong in the same conversation of a Kobe or a MJ or a Magic or a Bird. LeBron did what players do when they know that they will never win the Championship, they chase it.

So, I guess they will eventually win one or two, but, and listen closely basketball fans, THEY WILL NOT BE WINNING IT NEXT SEASON.

The Lakers (And I know most of you hate the Lakers) are going to threepeat. It's in the cards. It is Phils last season, Kobe is still fuming at all this LeBron Hype, and last night he had to hear that LeBron is the best player in the world, and D'Wade is the 2nd best player in the world.

Go ahead basketball world, keep feeding the dragon. Also, Kobe will come in Healthy, Pao well rested, and loony man Artest will be more familiar with the triangle.

Like it or not, but the Lakers will 3-peat and send Phil into retirement with his 4th 3-peat.

It's a Zen thing.

I agree completely.   Being a Laker fan, this doesn't worry me much.  I think LeBron's ego will screw this thing up and the Heat would have been better with Wade and Bosh, leaving the King (of egos) to go somewhere else.  I actually liked LeBron until this whole fiasco, culminating with an hour of primetime on ESPN.  I doubt I will be able to live without Sportscenter in my morning, but ESPN gets nothing else from me after contributing to this pile of steaming poo...

I wonder if Miller gets a shot at LBJ's mom like Delonte West did?  It is only fair.

You are the exact type of person i've been talking about all day.  Those that will hate this thing so much, that even though they may be "kobe haters" they will even root for kobe and the lakers to keep Lebronadict Arnold and his homies from winning a title.  something tells me that kobe is no longer officially the most hated guy in the league and the lakers will be the underdog this year.  and i'll laugh my arse off if the heat get beat by the C's, magic or bulls.  remember the 2004 superfriends lakers?  look how that one ended.

Well said DrLionel.....but if sxm-man had to look up every thing in the dictionary it would take time away from him photo shopping himself into Heat team photos.

You couldn't have said it any better.

All people want to talk about is poor Cleveland. This is huge for Miami and the whole tri-county area. We havent had a consistent winner here in quite a while. And to the few true Heat fans, through some very bad seasons, this is a huge payoff for years of loyalty. Not to mention the economic boom we should see from this. I hear Cleveland is struggling, but I KNOW Miami is struggling.

I'm also sure LeBron would rather be remembered as a guy who won a championship, however it came, than a guy who stayed loyal to Cleveland and never won. Cleveland has proved that they cant get anyone of quality to play alongside James. Its Cleveland, no young rich superstars want to live in Cleveland. Period.
