Replacing the best player in franchise history isn't easy. But that doesn't mean Cleveland is just going to sit and cry and write angry letters about it. Well I guess one of those things they did do. Nevertheless.

Brian Windhorst reports that the Cavs
are considering making an offer to Atlanta restricted free agent Josh Childress . But that's not all! The Cavs are also talking with Minnesota about a deal to bring Al Jefferson to Cleveland, Windhorst reports .

Childress has until July 15 to opt out of his contract with Olympiakos, which is where he spent last season. The Jefferson talks aren't serious yet, Windhorst says, because Minnesota is looking for more than just a salary dump. They want assets. Does that mean J.J. Hickson? Just draft picks? Hickson plus picks? There were talks a few days ago that Cleveland was making a play for Jonny Flynn. Maybe this is all one big package deal being discussed.

Cleveland's not the only team making a play for Jefferson though. Marc Stein reports the Mavs have had some talks with Minnesota involving Eric Dampier, but the Wolves want picks along wth Dampier's attractive contract, and that's something Dallas doesn't want to include.

Obviously, Cleveland is not going to get anyone near the talent level of LeBron, but I feel great knowing that they're not just going to sit around wallowing in the team and city's loss. If they can bring in just one good player, I think they could still make the playoffs at least. A team doesn't win 60+ games with just LeBron. There is some other talent there. It's just going to be a matter of playing differently than they used to and bringing in a couple more good players to help soften the gigantic blow the team took. Unfortunately, if they were to make the playoffs and end up facing the Heat, it wouldn't matter if LeBron chokes or quits because he now has teammates who can carry the team without him.  Laughing

Childress is a very effective player. He is young, shoots for a high %, and shoots his free throws well. I think he will only get better with a system like the Cavs. They have no true star to take the reigns so he certainly will get his shots.

Minnesota should take a first rounder for 2012, and then some solid players to gain more depth. I wouldn't mine Delonte West, and a 1st rounder for Jefferson. I do NOT want to see Jonny Flynn traded. Especially if it's to the Cavs because they have pretty much nothing I want except those pics.

if i were Minnesota, i would want not only a pick or two from Cleveland or Dallas, but also money and then see if Rubio wants to come to the US.

As for Josh Childress, if i were the Cavs, i would've gone after him last year, but now, why not see if he wants to come back and be in Cleveland. Childress isnt great, but he's good enough to be a decent player in the NBA.
