Knicks to form own Big 3?

Typically wedding toasts include a funny story about the groom, some crude comment, some marriage advice or all of the above. Most times however, they don't include proclamations about new NBA superteams.

The NY Post's Marc Berman reports that at Carmelo Anthony's wedding this past weekend, Chris Paul grabbed the mic and started tossing around talk of a new Big 3, this one in the Big Apple.

Berman writes: "According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, 'We'll form our own Big 3,' Paul allegedly said."

Of course "our own Big 3" refers to Paul, Anthony and newly signed Knickerbocker, Amare Stoudemire. And it goes without saying, some random wedding toast that may or may not have happened doesn't actually mean the Knicks can plan on their own Super Trio. But then again, who would've thought free agent summits and a supposed handshake deal in Beijing would give the Heat theirs?

A strange and unpredictable world, this NBA free agency is.

NO Carmelo!  Don't Lebron, I mean Leave on us.  The Nuggets have the players to reach the finals and win.

Knicks to form own Big 3?

USS Lakers, I agree with you man, I was talking about Lebron before the decision to go to Miami.  I was saying that when we was thinking about NY because of the bigger media market, his brand was already global so it wouldnt have been impacted that much.  Now, as you said, its a different story because he alienated so many fans and joined a team with an already established super star.

My point was that NY media market can help 99% of athletes get more exposure, but a guy like Lebron already had it.

And the guy on the conspiracy rant about hiding taxes in swiss acounts needs to calm down; there is not a massive money laundering scheme running wild in the NBA.  The IRS is so far up the arses of these high profile players can easily dig up attempts to hide from uncle sam.  And why go through all that hassle when you can just claim residence in a state with less taxes?  Which, I might add, is perfectly legal.

Knicks to form own Big 3?

This has to be one of the most iggnorant comments I have ever read. What NY has to offer is in a diff. world from Denver and New Orleans. Period. You have obviously never been to to NY,  either too poor or to scared to make a move. The Knicks are irrelevant?...the franchise is the most VALUABLE in the NBA? you understand that?... Buddy, get out of the house and try to make something of yourself...and if you come to NY you will see what we are in the paper everyday, why the financial world revolves around us, why everyone needs to make it here before they "make it", and why you simply need to think before you type.

This big three would dominate the south beach one. Because Amare is better on offense than chris bosh, Chris paul is just all around better than dwade and Melo is a better shooter than lebron.  I would def root for the knicks if this happened. I mean i would still be a cavs fan obviously but i would root for the knicks to win the east every season because i know the cavs have no chance of winning the east till about 20 years from now.

It came from Chris Pauls mouth first of all, and it's very possible, Melo wants NY bad, and to be on a team with Stars. The Miami situation made him think, and the NY Taxes, just means bigger writeoffs.  The Knicks have room to Max him next year, and they signed Felton to a 2 year with a team option for a 3rd. That means his 8.5 Million come of the books opening up the Chris Paul possibility.

Melo is not stupid, he knows everything thats been going on, and he will want to come back East, if that means sacrificing a few million; which he will make it up on Madison Ave. Unless the CBA turns ugly, he will be a Knick in 2011... GUARANTEED!

I think it was a solid argument that Lebron might not make that much more playing in NY because his brand is already a global powerhouse,

Sorry Offshoretjd, after last week TV special and how Lebron handle his departure from Cleveland. His Global Powerhouse brand has just confines to the greater state of Florida. The sensus around the country is that he is an egomaniac figure and no one desired his famous brand anymore. This is not aiming at his decision but the process in the decision. No matter how many championships Lebron could win....It will be deemed as Wade's championships and Lebron is there as a support piece.

It's funny to hear all of the NYBS arguments about the Knicks, such as:

It's unfair that the taxes are so high, no onhe wants to sign here. And
No big time FA will play in a building that has a statue of MJ outside the door.

My answer to both of these is:  The Yankees

Does A-Rod not pay that same high tax rate?  Do they not have a rich tradition including Ruth, Gherig, Dimaggio, Mantle and many more of the absolute best players to ever play MLB?

The Knicks made a complete mess of things.  Good for them on landing Amar'e, but they have a long way to go before they are a "destination".

Here we go again...........

Here we are with more of the made up, NY Post crap! More rumors that will not come true! Here we are just a week after LeBron makes his decision and we hear about the Knicks creating this dynasty. Come on are a Baseball and Football town. It's funny to see how arrogent New Yorkers really are. They actually believe EVERYONE has this desire to come to their overcrowded city.

The Knicks are irrelevant in the NBA. They have had 1 great era (70's Knicks) and a good era (90's Knicks). Other than that the franchise has been crap for over a decade. Why would Melo and Paul want to play in NYC? Denver is a top 5 seed in the West and N.O. needs a bit more help but are still viable.
