Haslem back with the Heat

Ira Winderman of the Florida Sun Sentinel reports Udonis Haslem will be back with Miami next season. Evidently, as Winderman says, Haslem even turned down bigger offers from Denver and Dallas to remain with the Heat.

Haslem sent a text message to the Sun Sentinel: "
Turned down full mid level from Dallas and Denver. See u next season." The Sun Sentinel reports that Haslem is expected to sign a four-year deal and take about a third of the potential $34 million over five years he would've earned elsewhere.

Whether it's the no state tax thing, the playing with three superstars thing or in general people in Miami just feel incredibly charitable, it's pretty wild that Haslem was willing to take considerably less to stay with the Heat.

The Heat definitely have work to do still though. While Haslem surely shores them up some inside and adds much needed depth, currently Miami doesn't have a starting center. There are still some veterans out there like Etan Thomas, Shaq, Jamaal Magloire and Zydrunas Ilgauskas or they could just throw second-round pick Dexter Pittman into the fire.

Whatever Miami does, Pat Riley and company deserve a tip of the cap for building a quality roster thus far around the three stars on the cheap. Mike Miller is expected to sign soon and now plus Haslem, the all-important role players are starting to take shape.

Udonis offers them true gritty role-players that will dive for the ball, get down and dirty in the paint, take fouls, take charges... he's beloved in Miami and after this amazing weekend, I feel so lucky that our hometown hero is back to take this team to glory. Udonis sacrifices his body for the team all the time, fitting that he sacrifices his paycheck to stay here too. Good for him and we love you, UD!!

Yeah, Darko got $20 mils from the Timberwolves. That's an example of why that team is so screwed-up.

Z is the defintion of done, and Shaq is a horrible fit for a team that should still bring in a 25-30 minute a night center. Shaq can't play defense with an M80 and really did nothing with Lebron last year except take up space in the paint. Think Etan Thomas perhaps, other than that I don't see anyone on the market considering their cap space is gone now other than veteran minimums (about 1.15 mil a year) and they have nothing trade unles you count their 2018 draft picks...They still need another Point Guard too.

Haslem back with the Heat

When you're that revered in basketball circles, I guess history and some pretty slicked-back hair does all the talking.

Get Z or shaq, that would be sweet although probably unrealistic to see Z come back and play with lebron, or shaq coming back to play in miami with d wade. I dont know how pat riley does it

Haslem back with the Heat

They desperately needed a big man and one level this makes sense. They can go over the cap to re-sign their players and while really undersized (6'8--235) Haslem was great defender once upon a time. The problem with resigning Haslem is that now Bosh has to play Center. Thus you'll be matching Haslem's 30 year old self against Gasol, Boozer, Garnett, etc. as opposed to having him at Center where he'd be overwhelmed by Noah, Bynum, Yao, Howard (that'd be painful).

Heat Lineup PG: Mario Chalmers...SG: Dwayne Wade...SF: Talented ass...PF: Udonis Haslem...C: Wade's really expensive poodle
Miami Lineup: C: Joel Anthony...SG/SF: Mike Miller...PF: Juwan Howard (He's still playing?!?!?!)...A bunch of 2nd round picks...Still a big man away? Or is it a point guard...

Wade and Haslem were co-captains last year Beer Drinkers, so I don't see why that shouldn't be the case again this year, LeBron and Bosh, or no LeBron and Bosh.
