David Kahn's summer of love continues.

After giving Darko Milicic the gift of $20 million dollars, then giving Miami the gift of being able to sign a bunch of talented veteran free agents by taking on Michael Beasley, and giving the Utah Jazz a great up-and-coming low-post scorer in Al Jefferson, the Wolves GM has now decided to give a big ol' gift right back to the NBA.

The NBA today fined David Kahn $50,000 and the Minnesota Timberwolves $50,000 following Kahns' comments on Thursday regarding Michael Beasley and his marijuana use. As we told you when we brought you Kahn's comments on the Minneapolis radio show, and via Tom Ziller, the CBA prohibits team officials from discussing drug use with the media.

You're going to be hard pressed with someone that thinks that what Kahn was saying was wrong. It was an honest observation about a player he's taken a lot of flack for trading for. He's a kid that's gone through a tremendous amount of scrutiny, and Kahn was just being honest and reasonable about his situation. But the CBA outlines this stuff pretty clearly, and for a good reason. Drug use is a personal issue, and especially with someone with a history of it like Beasley, openly discussing it not only hurts his brand and business ventures, but it harms his family and image. Even if everyone thought the same thing about Beasley, there's a huge line between referencing it vaguely and outlining it specifically. Kahn should know that.

Then again, he should also know not to give Darko Milicic $20 million and not to acquire Luke Ridnour when he has four point guards on roster, but hey, it's Kahn.

JJwins (Redick?...haha that's a laugh!).....how do you slander someone by telling the truth?  There was nothing false in anything that Kahn said about Beasley.  The guy got kicked out of the NBA symposium for toking down.  He photographed himself with a bag of pot in the background.  The guy checked himself into rehab.  You really should understand what slander means before throwing it around like you know what's what.

Treat mental illness with weed? There's also a study that says extasy can help with PTSD..... so should we just start popping X pills when we return from Iraq and Afghanistan? I have nothing against a little recreational pot use here and there, but you're making it sound like it's something that won't become a problem when used daily.

I kinda agree..i mean i dont think Kahn was trying to slander anyone..especially Michael Beasley who im rooting for to overcome all odds.  I think it was good that he spoke on this...then maybe it will track down on all players..not only potheads, but any other drugs/performance enhancers etc.  I like the rebuilding of the Twolves and they will be one of my fave team that id like to succeed. Just like the Raptors...no huge star...i mean if u ask an average person to name a Raptor..they could only come up with two...Bargnani and Calderon..Im hoping Amir Johnson has a breakout season...oops..my bad lol...the Brazilian Roadrunner, Leandro Barbosa...they could turnout to be a pretty underrated team.  I know it's a 5% chance or less...but Id like if the Heat and Lakers DIDNT make it to the finals.  Id rather see two teams who dont want it so easily and has to work at it.

Kahn's first mistake was taking on Beasley's contract and allowing Miami to create a super team, then he trades Big Al for pretty much nothing and now he makes comments on the best player on the roster that is actually playing?? How do these guys keep their jobs? The list goes on, like having 4 PG's on the team and no low scorer except for Love. I feel for the fans of the TWolves.

Here we go again. David Stern is an absolute dikk. Drugs are not personal issues. Its widespread in the NBA. So he spoke his mind the whole truth. And he gets fined? Pathetic. NBA's is run by a bunch of shmucks! As for the t-wolves....its hard to say if they can compete with this roster. I personally dont think Kahn is done moving people. They need another monster trade(scorer) to get this team competitive.

I agree with GoVikesTwins..This writer 1) Can't count 2) Hates the Wolves 3) Can't stand honesty. The NBA sucks and you will be writing about Curling within 6 months....remember to "count" the stones.
Let's recap Mr Kahn:
1) Traded for Beasley foe 2 future 2nd round picks 2) Drafted a gifted wing in Wesley Johnson3) Traded the R Gomes and Babitt for a great shooter in Martell Webster4) signed Nikola Pekovic...often considered one of the top 2 or 3 center overseas5) Traded Al Jefferson for 2 future 1st round picks AND a huge trade exemption..(OOPS forgot to mention that didn't you MATTY??)6) Signed a young vet PG in Ridnour that will fit in perfectly with the up-tempo triangle offense. 7) Oh Yeah...drafted Rubio.8) I bet he's not done yet Matty..so back to school my friend!

Bong Rips

I applaud this fine.  He has no business slandering someones name.  Unfortunately we live in a society where drinking is ok but phat blunts are looked down upon.  I live in LA and there's 3 pot shops within a 5 minute walk from me.  it makes my life easier.  you know they treat mental illness w/ weed now?  Beasley has mental illnesses so why can't he smoke a phatty daily?
