Report: Chris Paul prefers Orlando

The Chris Paul situation is heating up. He has a meeting with the team Monday that could influence him to stay or maybe to go. And now there's a report telling the world where he wants to be: Orlando.

Chris Broussard of ESPN reports the Magic have emerged as Paul's top preferred destination, supplanting the New York Knicks. In the story, Broussard mentions that while the Knicks are still high on Paul's list, he believes the Magic would be a better fit. Plus, CP3 also realizes Orlando has much more to offer New Orleans in a trade and thus believes it's a more realistic destination than New York,

CP3's desire to play in New York is largely tied to Carmelo Anthony and the chance to form a new Big 3 in the Big Apple with Amar'e Stoudemire. But that's not a guaranteed situation, especially with reports indicating Anthony prefers to re-sign with Denver. On top of that, the Knicks probably will be able to present the least attractive offer to the Hornets. Ken Berger's original report mentioned the Hornets would want to move Emeka Okafor with Paul, and if the Knicks took back Okafor, they wouldn't have the cap space to sign Anthony anyway in 2011.

Paul does have two years left on his contract so the Hornets don't have to move him by any means. But the team understands the predicament its star is in and realizes the unwanted situation new coach Monty Williams would have starting his coaching career with an unhappy star.

That's why the Hornets may indeed decide to trade Paul. But New Orleans would not limit itself to the four clubs on Paul's list, Broussard points out. Instead, the Hornets would look for the best deal for its franchise, according to his sources.

Currently the four teams Paul reportedly prefers are the Knicks, the Magic, the Mavericks and the Trail Blazers. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported on Friday that Paul's agent Leon Rose reached out to all four teams this week. The Bobcats and Nets have also made inquiries about packaging a deal for CP3.

If Monday's meeting doesn't go well for the Paul camp, there are teams lined up ready to pony up just about anything to grab CP3. This thing is getting good. Well, that is unless you're a Hornets fan.

Hey, bigman:  Just two seasons ago, the Hornets almost beat out the Lakers for best record in the West!  Is that your definintion of a team that "sucks"?  And, as I recall, CP3 missed a few games this last season, so where is your evidence?

I hope Orlando can pull this off. Otis Smith is being tight lipped as usual but I bet he is working to get this done. Otis does not get enough credit for the job he has done in Orlando. Lewis being the biggest mistake but he was about the best we could do in that free agency year. I don't mind the chance he took on VC either. I think most people thought he had enough left in the tank to be the finisher he was brought into be.
The Magic do have all the pieces to make this happen with quite a few different scenerios. I would love to see Howard, Okafor, Rashard back at the 3 where he is a very tough match up with his size along with Paul and Reddick. VC needs to get gone and would surely be part of the deal due to his contract expiring and really the only way it could work. Bass was underused this year but would be a great back up at the 4. This team would be young and a serious contender for years to come as they move into the new arena which from what I am hearing is amazing. My gut tells me Otis will get this done. With the hoopla in Miami the Magic must make a move like this to ensure even making it back to the East finals. I just don't see how anyone will be able to defend the Heat and they are going to win a lot of games and championships in my opinion. If the Magic make this happen the next five years will belong to Florida.

You are stupid.  The employers of NBA stars own teams for the fun of it or as a business.  How do you think they can pay players the millions of dollars in salary if they do not have 10 to 20 times that amount to run the team?  By the way Max, most of the money used to pay for the team has been generated by many, many more employees for the owners than LeBron, etc.   The owners don't need the NBA players, as in any business the players need the owners.  If every owner in every league decided to shut it down, they could pick a new venture and make just as much money.  The players would have a much harder time of surviving.

let me say first off that Paul used to be one of my favorite player until he started demanding a trade. but to say that he is prone to injuries is false becasue besides for last year he has been healty most of the time. and comparing those 3 pg's its hard to say that williams and nash are better than paul. paul averages more assists and points than williams and even in the limited time last year his stats were better. and as for nash he is a great pg but also a product of the phoenix system. look at his stats and totals when he was in dallas and not the run and gun phoenix offense. to be honest if paul was in phoenix hed problably average 23 to 25 ppg and 12 to 13 apg which is pretty close to what he does new orleans.

You are totally right iambigman1, in what league did paul think he was ever gonna win a championship with the Hornets, there isn't exactly a  waiting list of guys who want to play with CP3 and the Hornets, so what exactly was their management supposed to do, the hornets is never on anyones list of teams to play for. He could have done some lobbying of his own in New Orleans, but he just played the game and made us all think he was honorable, when really he was just afraid to speak up, until now.

This is really Lebrons fault, he paved the way for the new, more "me" NBA stars, i get wanting to win, I really do, but man, just like bird, and magic said, they wanted to beat the other guy, not join them. To bad so sad, I guess making 20 million a year makes you get pretty high on yourself. Well, all that being said, I would love to see cp3 in Portland, dishing to Roy and aldridge, I think it owuld be great, however, I think with Cho in the drivers seat, and Pritchard gone, the chances of this happening are not so good. I hope they trade to either the blazers, or to somewhere like, say, the pacers or the clippers, somewhere he can not win, would serve him right, other then that cp3, welcome to portland :)

I understand why he wants to go to Orlando, but doesn't CP3 know if he doesn't go what damage control will he tell his fans with the hornets. You know I was foolin, but please buy my shoes and jersey. If he had people around him who would get REAL with him and tell him he has two left on his contract and then he can go to Miami and help Lebron win his first championship.
