As if the Miami Heat needed more scoring and talent, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! reports the Heat have signed guard Eddie House to a two-year contract for the veteran minimum of $2.8 million. The second year of the deal is a player option for $1.4 million.

Wojnarowski mentions Miami beat out the Chicago Bulls to get House. House is 32, but still a productive offensive player. In his career, House has made 749 3-pointers and shot almost 40 percent from distance. He played a vital role in the Celtics 2008 championship and is a quality team player and understands a role well.

The Heat have built an impressive roster around Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron James. Mike Miller is an excellent shooter and scorer to bring off the bench. Then there's veteran talent like Juwan Howard, Udonis Haslem, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Jamaal Magloire. And now a player like House that can provide a number of baskets in a short amount of time on the floor. If you can't stand an applaud Pat Riley for constructing this roster from nothing, you probably live in Cleveland. Despite the apparent underhand dealings and controversy around it, this is quite a collection of talent.

This puts the Heat roster at 15, though a contract like Shavlik Randolph or Kenny Hasbrouck is likely non-guaranteed so a player like that could be waived in training camp. Also of note as Wojnarowski mentions is that the Heat are still weighing the possibility of signing free agent Tracy McGrady, league sources said.

Bosh, Wade, LeBron, McGrady, House, Miller... goodness. How many points a game could this group score?

In what alternate Universe, on what planet in what League is Eddie House a great defender. Are we talking about the same one dimesional, under sized SG Eddie House, or is there another Eddie House that the rest of us dont know about that you are referensing.

Heat round out (current) roster with House

To those who say the Heat won't be able to stop anyone: do you really know anything about this roster? Almost every player, save Bosh, is a good defender or better. Wade is All-NBA caliber on defense, and Haslem, Miller, Chalmers, and Anthony are all great defenders. They will be just fine on defense. Or, as my good friend put it, "the best defense is to score 140 every night."

James was First team All-Defense last year and Wade was Second team. Both know how defense is supposed to be played and they will not tolerate their team suddenly being allowed to turn into a Mike D'Antoni system. Since all of you whing "WHAT ABOUT THE DEFENSE?", maybe you should have done some research. Miami allowed 94.2 pts/game, the SECOND BEST in the NBA and returns seven core players from that team. That was BEFORE they added a first team NBA All-Defensive player to their roster.

Basically, the second best defensive team in the regular season last year LOST the following:
Quentin Richardson
Jermaine O'Neal
Michael Beasley
Dorell Wright
Yakhouba Diawara
Daequon Cook

And GAINED the following:
LeBron James
Chris Bosh
Mike Miller
Juwan Howard
Zydrunis Ilgauskas
Dexter Pittman

Returning Players:
Joel Anthony
Carlos Arroyo
Mario Chalmers
Kenny Hasbrouck
Udonis Haslem
James Jones
Jamaal Magloire
Shavlik Randolph
Dwayne Wade

In MY opinion, they are a BETTER defensive team overall than the one that finished SECOND IN THE LEAGUE last year. What amazing defensive players did they LOSE form last season? Quentin Richardson? Michael Beasley? HAAAAA!!! Dorell Wright MIGHT have been a decent defensive player, I don't know. He only played 45 games for Miami and average 15 minutes a game.

NOW what are you guys going to whine about when bashing the Heat?

I apologize I was typing too fast!

You've already mentioned LBJ who's still not a better all around defender than D-wade. D-wade had 100 blocked shots (1.8 bpg) & 100 steals (2.2 spg) all in the same season two seasons ago when he lead the NBA in scoring. Eddie House is an excellent defender. Joel Anthony avg. 2 bpg. & not to mention, UD. I wouldn't worry too much about defense. Stop listening to the media and the haters. Trust me... they'll be fine because the two captains of the team love to play defense. And I'm referring to D-wade & UD.

Haters bad for the league?..

YES!! If you are anything but a Heat fan, So frankly your hate works for ME!!  First of all The Pheonix Suns comparison WTH?? First of all they don't have the core the Heat have they have Nash who is a freak of nature who seemingly gets better with age, and THAT'S IT!! They once had Amare who as far as I'm concerned benefited greatly from Nash's pinpoint passing lets see him run that patented pick n roll in New York. We (the heat) Have 2 of the top 3 players in the league Lebron (2) Wade (3 even if he is number 2 in my mind) and Bosh who is atleast a top 10 player (who has not had a core like this around him in his young career) I don't feel like looking up his career stats let alone last years stats out of sheer laziness but i urge ya'll to plaease do so THE MAN IS GONNA BALL THIS YEAR!! Mark my words. The Suns have not had a core like this since......WAIT....EVER, even in the Barkley days they had a solid team w/ good talent but not as talanted as these 3. Plus who played defense on the most recent Suns teams except for maybe Raja Bell several years ago. So lets stop with Suns comparison. As far as the question of the Heat playing defense Most of you mentioned Lebron who is far and away our best defender (and mentioned he wants to be 1st team all defense), Wade who is also good (one of the best shot blocking SG's in the game), Bosh (Not too sure about his defense but I'm sure he's average atleast) Joel Anthony (only my fellow Heat fans have mentioned him) This dude is a blocking machine!! Our Beloved Udonis Haslem, Another good defender (watch some 2006 finals footage and how good he defended a talanted 7ft foward by the name of Dirk Nowitzki) Mario Chalmers (maybe you guys never watched too many heat games) I've seen this kid steal the rock many times so yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he's a good defender as well. As far our role players go the only one I know can play D is probably U.D. I know Magloire will drop u on your @$$ is need be but i don't forsee him getting alot of mins. Ilgauskus is just a big body doesnt play much D, Miller is a shooter not a defender. Pittman is young he's a big boy who can block but he is a rookie so we can't expect to much from him now. Randolh shooter no D, House can play D somewhat. Arroyo doesnt plsy much D, neither does J Jones, I dont know about Howard cause i didn't watch him last year w/ the Blazers...I think i named everyone who needed to be mentioned. Honestly nobody knows How this team is going to look out there but i do believe the overall concesus is that its gonna be exciting. we all know what our big three have sone individually and if they can do that as a group may god have mercy on all of you including the Lakers. Let us not forget that these roll players that many of you are calling "unwanted scrubs" will improve playing alongside these stars, Remember Damon Jones? I'll be the first to tell he aint  ish but he shot lights out when he played w/ Shaq and Wade. Same thing goes for Kapono. I think UD, Miller, Chalmers hell!! even the Offensively challenged Joel Anthony will all have really good years playing w/ these 3.  It's pick your poison w/ this team i wanna see who opposong teams are gonna double team when they're all playing Leave Anthiny open for the Alley oop? Leave UD open for that 20 ft jumper? Leave Miller, House, Chalmers open for the three?  The Heat won w/ Less in 2006 guys, Put that in your pipe and smoke IT!! ......and I'm spent....LETS GO HEAT!!

Heat round out (current) roster with House

all you guys keep saying interior deffense this and that. since when did kendrick perkins become an offensive threat. dwight howard gets his but it ain't like he's shaq in his prime. his offensive game is limitted. the lakers do have good bigs but bynum is the most feared big guy. he's ok but he aint all that. i would be more concerned with odem and gasol than bynum. but then you have to wonder what they are gonna do with bosh? neither one of them can check him either so just think about all the variables.. there's one thing that i never hear anyone mention is this.. when other teams go to the bench the heat will likely have at least one franchise type player on the floor which automatically creates a mismatch. so a second string dude will be forced to guard lebron, or wade or bosh. that's makes for double teams. and then you have house, and miller, and james jones on the wings to fill it up from deep. pick your poison. there's so much you gotta think about when this team hits the floor.
but like i always say, altho we look good on paper and i do feel we will win the chip this year.. we aren't the champions until we prove we are the champions. that belongs to the lakers right now and rightfully so.. so lets get the season on.. good luck to all you guys teams

Heat round out (current) roster with House

ha ha ha....laker fan living in Miami....bandwagoner...nuff said

If you really watched the Heat you would know that a Pat Riley influenced team always plays defense.  In fact, the reason the Heat made the playoffs last season was because of their defense.

I say it all the time, matchups are the key in the NBA....The Celtics play good tag team defense so it is easy for them to shut down a single star...not 2 or 3...especially with shooters on the perimeter

Heat should dominate the East

Heat round out (current) roster with House

1. I am a Laker fan who lives in Miami and I have absolutely NO reason to be jealous

2.  I went to about 15 Heat games last year and know the team quite well

2.  Yes the Heat have two good defenders now that can cover the 1-3 spots...but it stops there...

4.  Are you seriously comparing Joel Anthony to Bynum, Perkins, Howard, or Gasol?

5.  Chalmers is OK...but he wont stop Rondo or any of the other 10 elite PGs...ok slide Wade over...but help D by Lebron and Wade will only go so far...

6.  Haslam is probably the third best defender on the Heat and I like the guy and have been watching him for years...BUT...he simply is not big enough to cover the 4 and/or 5 all game without fouling out.

In summary, the Heat have 2 great defenders, one decent defender, and two questionable ones...where as the Lakers and Boston have at least 6-8 well established defenders when healthy...especially at the 4-5 spots which are critical...

I'm sorry but Heat fans need a serious reality check...they have minimal D...
