Typically, if you do your job really, really well, you get a promotion. Or you get a raise. Or at the very least, you get to keep your job.

But that didn't happen in Miami as the Heat fired its season ticket sales staff after the team sold out of season tickets. Ouch.

In a statement, the team confirmed the terminations Friday afternoon, saying that with an "exhausted'' inventory of season-tickets "we no longer require a season ticket sales team to sell tickets.''

Stephen Weber, vice president of sales, delivered the news to about 30 ticket sales people Friday morning, according to the story from the Miami Herald. Currently, the team's waiting list has more than 6,000 names on it. It's pretty evident that at this point, the Heat can sell tickets without even trying.

"They let us go because there was really nothing left to do anymore,'' a fired staffer told the Herald.

The statement also said: "While the decision to release part of our sales force was a difficult one, we greatly appreciate their contributions to the company. We have also hired a placement service to assist those individuals find new employment. Should any season tickets become available, they will be handled through our season ticket deposit program. We thank those employees for their time with the company and wish them success in their future endeavors.''

Obviously this seems like a major low blow. But as the staffer said, what were they really going to do? I wonder what places like Green Bay do with waiting lists that long. Still, firing a group of 30 after a job well done, has a funny taste to it. Or actually, is just downright mean.

Evidently, the Heat aren't worried about retaining the new season ticket holders. I guess LeBron, Wade and Bosh are supposed to take care of that.

former heat season ticket holder here.  I moved so i no longer needed/wanted them.

I went right to my sales rep D.  I didnt go to the account reps.  they were useless.  any time i needed anything answered i could call my sales rep, whom i knew for a number of years, or i could enjoy the sweet sweet hold music i would be forced to listen to while the account rep tried to figure out who i was.

So, if staff does its job so well that it meets team objectives 100%, then staff members lose their jobs?  Interesting...  Suppose we apply that standard to the on-court staff, the players.  Once the NBA champiionship is won, will all the players be let go? Why not? It worked for the Marlins...

"It just makes me a douche."

So, you are by your own admission, a "douche." I have enjoyed performing such cleaning duties in the past and present, but would not call myself that. Just messing wiht you. However, the so-called "super-team" will still have to beat the Celtics, magic and Lakers, probaly in that order. We'll se what happens. Heaven forbid one gets injured. Go Lakers.

Clearly selling is more about the product than the person selling the product. The heat placed a better product on the floor and customer flocked to get it. If the product wasnt a nice, then maybe a little convincing is necessary. Good move to the Heats, better move helping them find other employment.

It sucks, but that's life.  Good sales people can always find work; hopefully the Heat give them a nice severance package, but I doubt it.

How about LeBron, Wade, and Bosh pony up $1,000,000 between them....

,,,why is it a player GREED/STARVING issue??...why doesn't the owner pony up a million that he has already made up 10X over since Lebron signed....they didn't sell out with Wade last year, or after Bosh signed....the Lebron signing was the since the owner will make a ton of money over the next 5-6 years, shouldn't he/they be the ones best for ponying up?....people always love to tell  OTHERS (players not the owners), how they should spend THEIR money...

The real question is, why did they have a season ticket staff of 30 people this year to begin with?  Anyone with an IQ higher than 80 could have foreseen that season tickets would sell out for the new LeBron, Wade, Bosh roster.

Are you hinting that the coach should be fired if the Heat does not win the NBA title? I am on the same wave length you are. As a matter of fact since the entire organization was responsible for the forming of this trio, the entire staff to include management with pat Riley should be sold.

Then the franchise should be put up for sale because obviously the owner, and management were mislead, then the coaching staff should be fired because anyone with that amount of talent can not and should not coach in the NBA.

A precedent has been set in Cleveland. If you win 60 games 2 years in a row and make the playoffs each of those years you can not coach in the NBA therefore you should be fired as Mike Brown was. It matters not that your star player laid down on you in front of millions and millions of viewers.

So if all can agree with the talent on this Heat team, they not only should but need and will win a minimum of 3-4 NBA championships or be considered a bust.
