Typically, if you do your job really, really well, you get a promotion. Or you get a raise. Or at the very least, you get to keep your job.

But that didn't happen in Miami as the Heat fired its season ticket sales staff after the team sold out of season tickets. Ouch.

In a statement, the team confirmed the terminations Friday afternoon, saying that with an "exhausted'' inventory of season-tickets "we no longer require a season ticket sales team to sell tickets.''

Stephen Weber, vice president of sales, delivered the news to about 30 ticket sales people Friday morning, according to the story from the Miami Herald. Currently, the team's waiting list has more than 6,000 names on it. It's pretty evident that at this point, the Heat can sell tickets without even trying.

"They let us go because there was really nothing left to do anymore,'' a fired staffer told the Herald.

The statement also said: "While the decision to release part of our sales force was a difficult one, we greatly appreciate their contributions to the company. We have also hired a placement service to assist those individuals find new employment. Should any season tickets become available, they will be handled through our season ticket deposit program. We thank those employees for their time with the company and wish them success in their future endeavors.''

Obviously this seems like a major low blow. But as the staffer said, what were they really going to do? I wonder what places like Green Bay do with waiting lists that long. Still, firing a group of 30 after a job well done, has a funny taste to it. Or actually, is just downright mean.

Evidently, the Heat aren't worried about retaining the new season ticket holders. I guess LeBron, Wade and Bosh are supposed to take care of that.

Here is an idea. As I understand it there were 30 people fired. How about LeBron, Wade, and Bosh pony up $1,000,000 between them. Then retain the 30 people at $33,000 yearly. $1,000,000 isn't much money for them. But wait, then the three would probably starve. I guess a bad idea. LOL

Rockety, I don't know how Boston handles it, but in Miami the season ticket sales team AND the account reps are entirely different departments. The season ticket sales team cold call and visit companies and season ticket holders of the other South Florida teams to earn commissions in selling season ticket packages. At that point they get handed over to the account rep support staff.

I know the Heat just became the most hated team in the NBA after the LeBronathon, but this isn't the sinister move that the writer is making it out to be. There are no more season tickets to sell, but the support staff will likely have to grow given the expanding base. However, they're entirely different skill sets.

In other news...

Pat Riley has fired himself as the "Team of Forever" neither needs a coach nor a GM.  Before he shut off the lights, though, he also fired security, concessions, facilities staff, maintenance, accounting and all executive positions.

Apparently, "The Perfect Three" will be so entertaining that people won't need food or drinks to enjoy the games.  The peolple will be so thankfull and well-behaved to watch the Queens show them their new trophy that they'll be perfectly behaved citizens.  Happy pelple won't make a mess in the bathrooms and won't have anything to drop or spill so the stadium won't ever need cleaning.  Also, season ticket holders NEVER have questions.  I know.  I've had Celtics season tickets for five years, and I've never had a billing question.  OK.  Maybe one...but I've never had a schedule question.  OK.  Maybe one...but I've never called inquiring about moving my seat...well, maybe once.

The Heat are ungrateful.  I didn't like them before.  I like them less now.  They're disrespectful and thankless; as a team and an organization.  I feel for the entire NBA because of what they've done, but read this now;  no matter what we all say a matter of months, the sheep will forgive them of all their sins.  Grow some spines, people, or forever keep your opinions to yourselves.  Grow some spines and learn how to hold a grudge.  Why am I bothering....?

Royce, as a season ticket holder since 2004, I have never dealt with the 30 ticket sales people. We are each assigned account reps -- and those, as far as I know -- are still there. That's the ONLY person that current accounts really deal with at this point for problems, setting up the various player meet & greets around town, etc.

The sales team typically would smoke out leads, calling and visiting businesses, etc. to drum up new season ticket sales. That obviously isn't going to be necessary for a couple of years now. However, don't assume that there won't be any retention in place. The Heat has an amazing support staff. I've gone arcade racing with Udonis at Gameworks, been handed popcorn from Wade at a movie theater, and played poker with Beasley at events the reps set up with the players and accounts through the season -- and I'm in the cheap seats. The Heat knows what it's doing as an organization. I hope the assistance program helps the misplaced, but we all know they weren't let go because THEY were so good as much as the offseason moves that made their positions obsolete (though I'm sure they were great at what they did).

Too true! Eric should be booted too, 'cause there is no way he is going to be of any use on that team.

Looks like the three queens aren't the only ones making sacrifices for the good of the queen team.

You know what this means:  The big three and the entire heat team will forge ahead and win the NBA Finals "In honor of those who were fired" There's Always something to play for, or tributes, in memory of's, in honor of's, etc
There's one for almost EVERY team in MLB, NFL, NBA ..

Fire everyone

Heat management should fire everyone, including themselves. Can't the Big Three do everything on their own?
