Typically, if you do your job really, really well, you get a promotion. Or you get a raise. Or at the very least, you get to keep your job.

But that didn't happen in Miami as the Heat fired its season ticket sales staff after the team sold out of season tickets. Ouch.

In a statement, the team confirmed the terminations Friday afternoon, saying that with an "exhausted'' inventory of season-tickets "we no longer require a season ticket sales team to sell tickets.''

Stephen Weber, vice president of sales, delivered the news to about 30 ticket sales people Friday morning, according to the story from the Miami Herald. Currently, the team's waiting list has more than 6,000 names on it. It's pretty evident that at this point, the Heat can sell tickets without even trying.

"They let us go because there was really nothing left to do anymore,'' a fired staffer told the Herald.

The statement also said: "While the decision to release part of our sales force was a difficult one, we greatly appreciate their contributions to the company. We have also hired a placement service to assist those individuals find new employment. Should any season tickets become available, they will be handled through our season ticket deposit program. We thank those employees for their time with the company and wish them success in their future endeavors.''

Obviously this seems like a major low blow. But as the staffer said, what were they really going to do? I wonder what places like Green Bay do with waiting lists that long. Still, firing a group of 30 after a job well done, has a funny taste to it. Or actually, is just downright mean.

Evidently, the Heat aren't worried about retaining the new season ticket holders. I guess LeBron, Wade and Bosh are supposed to take care of that.

Heat sell out season tickets, fire sales staff

All I can say is....I wished I would fork all my money onto a Heat season ticket before it sold out. Hindsight I would have quadruple my money by now.
Clearly the Heat WILL JACKUP their season ticket twice over next season and still sold out by the season starter.
Oh aint Capitalism grand!

Wow, I certainly hate to say this, but a big dark cloud is following Lebron around now... does LBJ=A-Rod??  And I don't have a problem with either guy, I appreciate their talents...

The 2011 Heat & 1986 Hurricanes: Miami's disgrace

Greedy, dishonest, pampered, and capitalist are only a few words that come to mind when speaking of the Miami Heat. Politicians exploit the rules, not pro athletes. Within sports are rules of integrity, often not found in the rulebook. You don't sucker punch a guy, you don'y hit someone when they are down, you DO NOT run up the score in college sports! But for a few teams including the 1986 MIAMI HURRICANES and the 2011 MIAMI HEAT. To the owners and fans of the Heat, you will never be a beloved team like the Lakers, Celtics, Sixers and Bulls dynastys. You are a second rate team and city. When the Yankees buy a team the MANAGEMENT makes moves to build a team. YES, they spend more money than anyone! But A-Rod, Jeter, and Tex didn't sit in a back room and figure out how to cheat the league and TRY to steal a championship. Because of your low class moves, the sports gods will punish you. And Lebron, you will NEVER win a title now. PUNK

Dan Marino's Dolphins will be more loved throughout your city even though Dan NEVER WON A CHAMPIONSHIP. They played with class. Something this Heat team does not have.

I'm sure LaBron James & Chris Bosh will need their lawns mowed and cars washed.

Rockety, I'll challenge that quite vehemently. I could talk about your last paragraph for days, but I'll leave it at this: Unless you provide me some kind of basis for calling the Heat "ungrateful", I've got no kind of respect for you. Well, when company fires sales staff after doing their job, they are ungreatful. I did not think you needed any additional basis, the point of this article is the basis for this point. Just because you fulfil this year's quota, it does not mean you fire the entire department. I understand the point MoonOverMiami is making, you can't move people from sales to clean toilets, but this is just bad management. So, now if one of the ladies gets a career-ending injury, they will be hiring again? pathetic.
Your marketing team should have investigated the market better and set the season ticket price higher, your sales staff should have been downsized right after the trade, anticipating higher season-ticket sales (I know hindsight is always 20-20, but is there someone who did not see this coming?). The downsizing should have been in several 20% steps, moving some people within the company. That way you save money, and avoid nasty PR. This is a bad way of doing business.

Heat sell out season tickets, fire sales staff

Why should there even be an NBA season, Miami would seem to be a lock to win it all the way everything is going in Miami.  I can't wait to see them fall, it would be great if LeBron James became the Patrick Ewing/Charles Barkley/Karl Malone of his generation, to never win a title.  The Heat have become like the old Dallas Cowboy team from years ago, a team you love to hate.  Maybe the Little 3 will be able to be player coaches too, what a joke.  The sales staff really doesn't have anything to do, maybe the Little 3 can hire them to run some errands, wash their car, etc.   NBA fever, drop it.
