Shaquille O'Neal is finally set to sign with the Celtics, reports A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN Boston .

Ken Berger confirms this with his sources as well and says the deal will be for the veteran minimum of $1.4 million is likely a two-year deal with the second year a player option.

Shaq will get what he wants in that he's on a good team that has a need for him. Though the Celtics signed Jermaine O'Neal already, Boston has to deal with an injury to Kendrick Perkins plus Jermaine O'Neal's sketchy health history. Shaq should have minutes and will fill a role, two things he wanted.

Shaq flirted with multiple other teams including the Hawks and Spurs, and even tossed out the idea he nearly signed to play overseas in Italy . But after all that, the chance to join a contender and have another go-around at an NBA title was too much to turn away.

This will be Shaq's sixth team in 19 seasons. He's 38 and averaged 12.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last year in Cleveland.

Shaq wipes his butt with $1.4 mill, which is about $800k after taxes.  If I was 38 (and I am) and had $100M+ in the bank like Shaq says he has, I most certainly would say no thanks.  He has had a long and illustrious hall-of-fame career - he has nothing else to prove.   I 100% gaurantee that $1Mill is not the reason he is still playing - the only reason he is playing now is EGO - he wants to try and 1 up Kobe.  Before criticizing my comment, give it some thought outside the context our your limited world.. we are talking about Shaq, not you.

How is he tarnishing his legacy - name me another 50 greatest NBA players of all time who played for 6 different teams.  You can't because the greatest players don't become journey-men.

all i have to say is kobe would have never won the first 3 without SHAQ........

What do you base that on?  Kobe won 3 with Shaq and now has won 2 without Shaq with what should be several chances to add to that number.  Since the split, what's the count?  Kobe 2 titles, Shaq 1 I believe.  Fact is Shaq won titles with Kobe and Dewayne Wade, two of the best players in the NBA -- without them, nothing -- nothing in Orlando (w/Penny Hardaway), nothing in Phoenix (with Nash and Stoudmire and Grant Hill), nothing in Cleveland (with Lebron James). HMMMMM -- may Kobe did not win 3 titles with Shaq, maybe Shaq won 3 titles with Kobe.  Fact is, they won 3 titles TOGETHER, one player will not win an NBA title by themselves.

What a joke.  Shaq, who is an all-time great, is severely tarnishing his legacy.  Dude has become a gravy-training journey-man ... magic, lakers, heat, suns, cavs, and now celtics... 6 teams??... how sad.  Just hang up the sneaks big fella!

Kobe is a punk?  You obviously dont watch laker games. If you did, you would see the determination and drive that Kobe has. He plays within a system that allows him the freedom to excel and do as he pleases.  Whats wrong with that?  All Kobe wants to do is win.  If he's a punk for wanting to win, then i guess MJ is a punk too.  All the greats of any sport are punks.

Maybe if you look without bias at the man's game, you might realize the greatness that is Kobe.  And once the Lakers take out the frozen one, dwade and that crappy PF bosh, Kobe will forever step out of MJ's shadow and will hopefully earn some of you hater's respect.    And with that, you will NOT be able to deny Kobe his place amongst the greatest of the greatest.

I don't have much respect for LeBron James, not because he left Cleveland, but for the circus act he perpetuated in leaving Cleveland
this i can agree with, i just cant agree with people not liking him because he left Cleveland. If you dont like him because of all the drama he had with that hour show called "the decision" then i agree with that and i think that was just him being cocky, BUT being mad at him for leaving Cleveland is just dumb.

As for Shaq, i think the Celtics should sign him, but dont they have enough big men??? Also if he does sign here, the Celtics have two O'Neals.
