Signs are pointing to 'Melo heading to New York

The Knicks had their eye on the summer of 2010 for a few years. It was their chance to return to glory by shelling out big money to big name free agents. In the end, only one signed and New York was left waiting for the next shot at a star.

Well, signs might be pointing to a certain Denver Nuggets stud leaning towards New York. Besides Ken Berger's report that Carmelo Anthony wants to play in the Big Apple, Chris Dempsey of The Denver Post says there are some serious smoke signals that 'Melo prefers New York.
These are some of the dots: He's selling his Littleton estate; the constant reports of Anthony telling friends that he wants to play for the New York Knicks; his New York wedding; his East Coast upbringing; summer trade talk that has cropped up twice in his time in Denver, which hasn't always made him feel wanted; oh, and not signing a contract that averages around $21.6 million per year for the next three years, a sizable amount of money that he may not be able to earn with a new collective bargaining agreement.

Anthony has connected some dots of his own. Even if he was completely happy with the Nuggets now, in three years he may look around at a team that is a shell of the one that reached the Western Conference finals in 2009. It could be young and inexperienced. It could be filled with mediocre talent. His NBA biological clock would be ticking loudly because he would be in his 10th season. There's no way he wants to start over 10 seasons into his career.

It's definitely to the point for Anthony that it's not just wild speculation. The interest appears to be real and even with a $65 million extension on the table from Denver, Anthony has said he's taking his time and also envoked the "do what's best for me and my family" clause.

On the other hand, Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups is hopeful Anthony will stay in the Rockies. "I'm 100 percent hopeful," Billups told the New York Post . "It's between me and my guy. If y'all have a close personal friend and they're going through something and the media asks, you're not going to expose that. Y'all find out when he wants y'all to know."

No doubt Carmelo Anthony's free agency will likely be the major drama of next offseason. And much like New York's courtship of LeBron, there's some serious flirtation going on from both sides. But just The King's decision, we'll likely just have to wait until next year to get the final answer.

New York is full of itself? Where are you from? New York is not overrated if you mean the Knicks yes but NY hell no. What small town you from thinking it is better than NY? Stop hating on NY, there is a reason there is speculation every five minutes that someone is coming to NY. Melo I feel wants to be here and it is a good fit. Knicks would be a great team, not championship unless their supplemental players fill in the gaps. He is from NY Lebron was not and shows he does not want to be the focal point of any team. Dwayne Wade is a better player and has won a chip. Melo if he wants to be the man will go to NY. Denver will never win, not going to happen they had their best chance two years ago. Their team is washed up even Billups is getting up there in age. West Coast is still a beast and not much room for success.

That would be a wonderful thing.  Teaming up with Amare would definitely make the season exciting.  Too bad everyone has to wait until next year.

I thought we were discussing Melo leaving Denver.Good point though D'Antoni is gonna help the knicks just by implicating his offense cause every player loves to play that way.I this year we will see a new and improved New York Knicks and If by chance they get Melo then I think there still maybe one more key guy short to making them a contender we will soon see.

Carmelo is from New York, has a house in New York, and basically is just a New Yorker.  He's not gonna sign with the Nuggets, if he were he would have took that offer which was and is the biggest amount of money he could possibly get.

I wouldn;t be surprised at all if the New York Knicks organization and team members have already talked to him about his plans and told him to sign with them, they can't say anything because its basically illegal for them to discuss any future contracts when he's playing elsewhere, but I bet they know more then they're saying about his plans.  I think Carmelo told some of the Knicks organization that he plans to come there.

The Knicks would certainly be contenders with him and Amare there, a much better team than Denver will have if he stayed.  And really overall, when you factor in all the endorsements Melo will get from playing in a big market city, he'll end up making a lot more than the contract Denver offered him only a different way.

who is the proven winning coach that you are referring to.  i know you aren't talking about dantoni who hasn't won anything. The nets are a much better choice than the knicks,  albeit not as flashy a one. I would take brook lopez, derrick favors, terrence williams and devin harris over amare stoudemire and danillo galinari. the nets are younger more athletic and the roster is more clearly defined. I would even take the length of travis outlaw over wilson chandler. I hope that carmelo anthony will make the right decision and do it early and tactfully. do you here this lebron? oh ... david lee does not play defense but, neither does amare.

Did you just say David Lee played Defense? I was a season ticket holder before I moved west and David Lee has some of the slowest feet on defense you've ever seen. Where did you come up with the idea that he played defense? Stop making stuff up. Amar'e is an upgrade over David Lee. There is no argument otherwise.
