Offers starting to pop up for Carmelo

There's no telling how many times Masai Ujiri's phone has already rang. Some were probably congratulatory calls on his new position with the Nuggets, but I'm guessing 95 percent of them have included the words "Carmelo Anthony," "trade" and "we'll offer."

And according to John Rothstein of the MSG Network, the Bulls have already inquired offering up a package that includes Taj Gibson and Luol Deng. That doesn't mean that is the offer, but it means that the Bulls are reportedly offering a deal that includes those two players. Rothstein also reported that the Nets have made a few calls, but any trade discussions with Denver aren't including Brook Lopez. Smart move there by the Nets.

Those are just two of the teams reportedly interested in Anthony though. We've heard the Kings, the Warriors, the Hornets, the Timberwolves, the Knicks, the Magic and the Rockets all pop up as well along with the Nets and Bulls.

What's interesting about any offer that comes in to the Denver front office is figuring out what the Nuggets are aftet? Is it talent? Is it assets? Is it picks? It's pretyy well agreed upon that Denver won't get equal return on Anthony, but just because you trade a star doesn't mean you can't come out sunny on the other side.

Jeremy Wagner of Roundball Mining Company put together an interest list of offers from fellow team bloggers. He ranked them and interestingly, both offers from the Nets' bloggers didn't include Lopez and Wagner didn't like the offers. Devin Harris, Terrence Williams and some picks isn't doing much for a Nuggets fan and it's likely not doing much for Ujiri either.

Ujiri reportedly will meet with Anthony soon and told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! that he wants Anthony to be a Nugget. But Ujiri also said that the door hasn't closed on the possibility of trading. Of course Ujiri would prefer not to trade Carmelo because replacing the face of your franchise is almost impossible to do in a trade, but sometimes your hand is forced. And in this situation, that appears to be the case. The phone calls are going to keep coming for Ujiri, and not very many will involve much congratulations.

Any trade that goes through with Melo will most likely involve Melo's approval to go to which ever team Denver wants to agree with. In addition to Melo approving the trade, he will most likely also make it a sign and trade scenario like the Heat did with LeBron and Bosh. This would ensure mainly 2 things: First that Denver would get something in return for Melo instead of losing one of the top players in the league at the end of the year. Second it would give Melo the opportunity to go where he wants to play and get his money.

Chocobastic: First Taj Gibson and Deng is not as bad as you think. Deng, before he had injury issues the past 2 years, was a great player and he still can be. Gibson is very young, a very talented defender, and he is becoming a decent option to score down low. Like mentioned by others, Melo is in his last year so Denver would much rather get something, even though not equal, for him and Deng and Gibson as two main peices is a great return. Second, the Knicks don't stink. They did great in the offseason and are getting better.

If the Knicks got Melo and CP3 than the Knicks become the 3rd, if not the 2nd best team in the East. A Melo, Paul, Amare team is definitely better than an OLD Garnett, Allen, Pierce team and may be better than a Howard, Nelson, Carter team. They would also compete with the Heat depending how James and Wade blend together.

Melo will be out of Denver by the end of the year, its not so much a question of will he move as it is more of when he will move. In the above article Denver's and Melo's most likely options will be either the Bulls, Magic, or Knicks. All 3 offer Melo the best opportunity to win a title, Chicago with Rose and Boozer and their compliments, Knicks with Gallinari and Amare (possibly Paul at some point), and Magic with Howard and Nelson. The question still remains where Melo wants to go and who is willing to do a sign and trade to ensure they don't give up good pieces for just a one season player.

i am a Knicks fan, but what I am about to say does NOT carry any bias...

you are wrong, the Knicks do not "stink"...they made plenty of good offseason moves.

I actually agree with your assessment of the Knicks.  They have finally gotten out of the self-imposed straight jacket that interfered with their ability to make meaningful player transactions.  They have a few pieces that should enable them to look a whole lot more attractive for FA's next off season.  They are a team on the rise - that's not saying much given how bad they've been, but at least they're no longer treading water, (with the water being over their heads).

The main problem with your comments is that I believe that they would have to offer Gallinari AND Eddy Curry's contract, (and probably a future number one pick), to be sufficiently attractive to the Nuggets.  That knocks one leg out of your three-legged stool.

Crazy things have been seen in the NBA, (the Celtics rise from last to champions one off season).  If the Knicks could find a way to get Paul and Anthony then along with Stoudemire they'd have their own version of the "big three" to compete against anyone in the East.  I don't see it happening, however, as they do not have the parts to swing both trades.

Get ready for another year of futility at MSG, but at least you can realistically look forward to a better future.

I  wouldn't want him on my team. He's a stats guy that really only cares about scoring championships and looking good. Hey if he wins - cool - but it's all about Melo and not the team. He must have idolized Allen Iverson growing up or has he?

keep dreaming!  The Knicks haven't made the playoffs since Patrick Ewing was sweating on the free throw line and they won't for another five years at least.  Amare is Garbage!  I knew the Knicks would waste their money on him because he was their only option left.  Amare puts up big numbers when it doesn't count.  Also for years he was the third if not fourth best player on a good team that was never able to get to the finals.  Thats gotta tell you something.  And Gallinari is a nice wing  player, 3 or 4 option on a decent team, and thats it.  He's soft!

First up, for everyone babbling about its only a one year contract... its a given that melo would sign an extension upon being traded.  Thats why he has a say in where he gets traded... Doesnt matter what Toronto offers, unless theyre playing for a one year n done deal....

Now, as a Rockets fan... I'd offer up Battier, Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill and all our first round draft picks for the next 2 years (that includes our option to swap first round picks with the knicks next year, and the Knicks first rd pick the year after).... Giving the Nuggs 3 expiring contracts and 3 first round picks over the next 2 years.... Battier/Jeffries/hill cover the loss of Melo this year, and then the nugs have capspace (via expiring contracts) and top picks to fill holes - perfect for a team rebuilding.

Get er done, Morey!  ;)

wow! I wanted to reply to the earlier comment about the Knicks being good because I thought that was outlandish and then I read your comment.  All I have to say is hahahahahahahaha!!!!  You think the Hornets are gonna give up CP3 for TY Lawson, Nene and a draft pick???????  Those guys are garbage!  I am aSixers fan but I don't think we can get Chris Paul for Willie Green and Tony Battie!  good luck with that one!

You need a 3 way deal if Melo is to go to the Knicks to sing AMORE with AMAR'E - and you need a little LOVE. The Timberpuppies are the best partner. So here is the deal: Rubio and Love to the Knicks for Sergio, Turiaf, Gallinari and a Knicks first pick. Knicks flip Rubio, Love, and Wilson Chandler to Denver for Melo. Add a little dough to make the deal rise for cap purposes.
