Michael Beasley: "We are the team to beat"

Since moving to Minnesota, according to his general manager, Michael Beasley has supposedly given up his old habits. And by "old habits," I think you know what I mean.

But then he goes and says something like this which makes you think maybe he hasn't.
"Honestly, and I know a lot of people are not going to like that fact that I'm going to say this but I think we are the team to beat," Beasley told Timberwolves.com in an interview. "You know, that's just me and my ego speaking. I think the Lakers are the defending champs two years in a row, I think the Lakers still hold that title. It's nice to see somebody try to fight back but as of now, the Lakers are still the team to beat."
So you are the team to beat, but then you're not? You have to admire Beasley's confidence though. And as a player, why shouldn't you think your team will be good? It's not very fun to go into a season admitting you're going to stink. But even despite egos and confidence, most people still have some sense of reality, something Beasley evidently does not.

But on one hand, you have the Timberwolves writing open letters admitting they aren't going to be winning anything important any time soon, then on the other, a player is saying they're the best team out there. One of those left hand doesn't know what the right is doing sort of things, huh?

Say it again with me just for fun - Minnesota Timberwolves: the team to beat in 2010-11.

First off, i like Beasley's confidence and i hope that he's right and i REALLY hope he takes that bust label off of his back and becomes the first star NBA player the T-Wolves had since Kevin Garnett. I still like Beasley's potential and i hope he lives up to it and does help this team be the team to beat, BUT they still have big issues, even if Beasley becomes a star.

Beasley has to learn to back up his talk with actions. The class guys in the league talk humbly about their own teams and let their actioons speak louder than words.

Even if they improve, there is nothing like talk like this to motivate your opponent.

I really don't care what this guy says, I just want to see growth. I want to see dedication, a better work ethic, and leadership on the court. This guy is very talented, but has squandered it thus far. Maybe Minnesota will have fewer temptations compared to South Beach.

To everyone who keeps say 15 ppg and 7rpg.  Someone has to get the points and rebounds and Miami's roster was so stripped in anticipation of this off season, which worked out quite nicely for them, that it was him, Wade a couple guys an corpses filling out the roster.  There was no one else, he had to put up numbers, stoned or not.

Michael Beasley: "We are the team to beat"

I'm gonna back up Beas.  I emailed the TWolves organization last month telling them I thought they had a ton of good, young talent.  Love, Beas, Flynn, Webster, Brewer, Ellington (I might have forgot someone) along with some vets, Darko, Ridnour.  If they can get Rubio over here or trade him for some more help- they could be even better.  Advice for Rambis- keep throwing fresh 2s & 3s at the opponent.  The only starters who should get 35 plus minutes are Beas & Love!
