Bryant tells reporter knee is only 60% just three weeks from the start of the season.

We're not going to waste your time with recapping the first preseason game of the season. Long story short, lots of reserves, not much of starters, and Michael Beasley looked good. What was relevant came for six minutes and then afterwards. That six minutes was the total amount of time Kobe Bryant spent on the floor. More important was what he said afterword, as reported on Twitter by Mike Trudell of Lakers.com .
Kobe said his knee was "extremely, extremely painful during the NBA Finals." Said he feels better, but is at about "60%" tonight.
60%. Yikes. We're three weeks from the start of the season and the defending Finals MVP, the best player on the defending champions is 60%. That's got to be concerning, until you realize that the Lakers could literallly lose all of their games for the first month, and then still probably make the playoffs. If any team defines "the switch" outside of Boston, it's LA. Bryant was frustrated and disappointed he couldn't play more tonight , especially with the fans chanting for him, but the knee just couldn't go. It's a testament to his dedication that he wanted to play that much in a preseason game... in Europe. But that's what we've seen from Bryant.

For now, we'll hold off concern, even though being just over 50% three weeks out has to put just a few flags up. This is an important season for the Lakers, obviously, but it may be the most important. It's Phil Jackson's final year, Bryant's knees won't last forever, Gasol's getting older, and the competition keeps getting tougher in the West and out. With Andrew Bynum out till December, it looks like we won't be seeing the Lakers full strength for quite some time. I'm sure their fans are fine with that as long as they're still sterling in May.

I suggest xz1the master1zx first master the English language and typing skills before he throws darts at Kobe and the Lakers from ``the Decision'' City. This e-mail was just tough to get through.

@Master --- hey idiot...have you ever stopped to think to yourself...hmmm...self...why is it that Kobe can't jump half as high, or get to the rim half as much as he did the all the years before the last year or two? Obviously not...the guy has been jacked up for awhile, and he's not that old. This comes from a guy who never made excuses or never once mentioned his knee during the finals. And though it's true that the championship against the Celtics was won mostly by his teammates picking up for his lousy shooting percentage most games in the Finals, it wasn't because Kobe is lying about having half a knee in one leg. Dude is obviously messed up...and most of us Laker fans have beeb silently wondering if it ain't going to be an issue for the rest of his career from this point on.

Old Man Kobe's on the decline...

Lakers' fans should be very concerned. It's not about the first month of the season. If his knee's feeling this bad right now, how's it going to feel in May? This ,plus the fact that Bynum's out to December is a serious issue for the Lakers. Kobe's 31 now, but has logged as many minutes as a 35 or 36 year old player because he's been playing 82-game schedules since he was 18. No home court, no chance at another title. Meanwhile, the 17-Time World Champs are stocked, loaded, and healthy, and will begin their reign of terror on October 26th when they humiliate Miami. Boy-oh-boy, is it great being a Celtics' fan!

MAN UP

One other thing. Kobe needs to take a few lessons and  man up and grow a set like like a former player that played for the L A Rams. MR and i did say MR Jack Youngblood DE for the Rams played a whole year playing every down on d with a broken legs. Yes i said a broken leg. Did he cry and say how much he hurt or what % he was. He said after it was broke that he would deal with it when the season was over. He played all year on a broken leg. Now what % would kobe be if he had a broken leg ? I would say about 0%.

Call me names like little  13 year old bi-ches would because punks like you haven't the nuts but to do anything but hide behind that monitor and call people names. Kobe number 1 is no MICHAEl. Kobe and all you that cant keep your lips off him think he is Michael. When the game was on the line Michael made the shot, he wasn't over there praying that Fisher would bail his brick throwing azz out. What % did he shoot in the finals. Fisher won them the title. Kobe didn't even play like the third or forth best player on the court. Michael never whinned that he was 60%. He sucked it up, went out like a man and gave it all. But we will see come final time. The Heat will come out of the East. If Mr Brick cant learn to shoot WHEN the heat is on like Michael did. Then its Heat time.

Nice to see douche bags like  talking smack already.  Seriously?  Excuses?  You are a flat out idiot if you think Kobe is making excuses.  With a dumb post like that you shouldn't even be allowed on your mommies computer to get online!
No one is knocking the Heat yet you come up with possibly the dumbest post in the history of CBS Sports and that is saying something!  Congrats for proving to everyone on this board that you are the biggest douche bag in history and know absolutely NOTHING about sports or athletes.  Look, take your butt back to Domino's and finish your deliveries as I'm sure there are some people waiting on pizzas and leave the message boards to the grownups.
