LeBron is coming to New York, as the bad guy

Knicks fans were convinced LeBron James would be playing at Madison Square Garden this season. Just still not in the other guy's jersey

LeBron James continues on with his scorned lover tour, tonight taking LeBus to New York to play the hot Knicks. Of course LeBron's visit to New York is the headliner, but lost in that is that the Knicks and Heat are actually rivals and that this game will feature two winning basketball teams.

Life was good for the Knicks when they won eight straight games and 12 of 13. And if Amar'e Stoudemire gets that 3-pointer off just a couple tenths earlier, life is really good. But reality could be coming to visit the Knicks with LeBron as New York gets out of its powderpuff portion of its schedule and into a few games against contenders.

The Heat have won 10 straight, just like the Celtics when they strolled into the Big Apple. They are no joke. They defend. They score. They have LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. They're good.

But the game tonight at MSG is pretty much as big as you might imagine and not just because these two old rivals are good again at the same time. Instead, it's about LeBron coming to the place he calls "Basketball Mecca" to play the Knicks. The Garden won't be kind to LeBron tonight. It's an arena he's owned in the past, a place where even in an opponent's jersey he was revered. No longer. Now he's more enemy than ever.

The Knicks need to bounce back too. The loss to the Celtics is still stinging. If Stoudemire's 3 had counted, it would make tonight's game even bigger, but less important in a way for the Knicks. Now though, after the Heat leave town the Knicks travel to Cleveland but then have games against the Thunder, Bulls, Heat again and Magic. It's not about to get any easier for the Knicks. What was one an attractive 16-10 record could find its way to 17-15 in a little over a week.

So winning tonight is a big deal and not just to stick it to LeBron. It's big because the Knicks need it. Who thought we'd be saying that?

Weird thing is, the Knicks don't match up all that bad. Raymond Felton gives them a big edge at point guard. Amar'e Stoudemire is outplaying Chris Bosh this season and while that's a good matchup, it seems to lean New York's way. Obviously stopping LeBron and Wade will be the problem, but New York's outside shooters are a great equalizer. Danilo Gallinari, Toney Douglas, Shawne Williams and Landry Fields all can impact the game from outside.

The Heat are a dynamic transition team and of course the Knicks like to run. But New York doesn't play anywhere near the defense Miami does. So someone getting hot and staying so will be important for the Knicks.

The venom in Cleveland for LeBron was strong. It won't be stronger in New York tonight. But Knicks fans will certainly be heard from. I actually have high hopes that they'll get even more creative than the fine people of Cleveland.

Before the season, this game was circled on Knicks fans' calendars because it was LeBron coming to town. The guy they courted for so long and were convinced was coming. I don't think they expected this game to carry any level of importance in addition to the philisophical level.

The game against Boston was big. But this one against the Heat is, well, bigger.

There is no mention of Chandler because he a stress fracture of his ego from having Wade and LeBron posterize him every time they meet. So it was better for him not to be mentioned not to cause further embarrassment to Chandler and his family.

Keep smoking that crack pipe. Chandler was never posterized by Wade nor LeBron, don't be surprised when he makes LeBron sweat on defense. Kids averaging just under 18 ppg this season, produces in every category and is a great defender.

Lebron James is the bad guy in every NBA city he goes to, with the exception of Miami.  His posse really did a number on his public image as they destroyed his brand.  Please dont call him "King James" in this country if you want to do him any favors.  Remember, we rebelled against a king.
