Video of Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett getting ejected after a dirty play on Phoenix Suns big man Channing Frye. Posted by Ben Golliver.

The Phoenix Suns were leading the Boston Celtics, 80-69, with roughly four minutes to go in the fourth quarter down in the desert, when all heck broke loose. It all started when Phoenix Suns big man Channing Frye attempted a three-pointer, and Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett closed out to defend. As part of the close out, Garnett extended his right hand and contacted Frye fairly lightly in the genital region, and he also slid his right foot underneath Frye, causing Frye's left foot to come down on Garnett's right foot, which led to an awkward landing.

Frye came to the ground without twisting his ankle too badly and initially doubled over in pain, clutching his groin. Soon after, though, Frye got up and got directly into Garnett's face, as Garnett pretended like he didn't know what had happened and why he had been whistled for a foul. Frye clearly took issue with Garnett's action and yelled at him directly, and the two players touched foreheads as they jostled. Suns big man Marcin Gortat and official Steve Javie tried to act as intermediaries to break up the scuffle, but the scrum quickly grew in numbers as members of both teams got in on the pushing and shoving action.

Here's video that shows the post-foul scrum and then multiple replays from different angles of Garnett's foul on Frye.

After everyone settled down, the officials engaged in a lengthy review. The result: Garnett was whistled for a foul on the play, a double technical was called on Garnett and Frye, and then Garnett was issued a second technical foul and was ejected. Celtics center Kendrick Perkins and Celtics guard Nate Robinson were also assessed technical fouls for their roles in the scrum.

The official explanation for Garnett's ejection: he was assessed the first technical for his initial actions in scuffling with Frye and the second technical was for continuing to jaw after the fact.

The Suns held on to close out the home win over the Celtics, 88-71.

Kevin Garnett ejected after dirty play on Frye

Two things here.  Kevin Garnett has always been a dirty player and no one besides Boston lap riders like him.  Second, Jeff Van Gundy is always on point and is hands down the best announcer when it comes to basketball.

Kevin Garnett ejected after dirty play on Frye

KG has always been a dirty player and if he is not a thug, he sure likes to pose as one. He isn't the dirtiest player in the game today perhaps and certainly not the dirtiest player ever but he is constantly taking dirty shots at other players. Then he glowers at them as though they were somehow the ones in the wrong.

This example in Phoenix was not his worst by any means but it was clearly deliberate and deserved ejection just on that fact alone. Of course the official reason he was ejected was for 2 technical fouls. Tomayto, tomahto.

Kevin Garnett ejected after dirty play on Frye

Look at the profile of every single pathetic useless human being sticking up for Garnett on this message board. They're all Boston homers. Almost every single one lists the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox, and Bruins as their favorite teams. Garnett's an ultra thug who only messes with guys that he thinks he can get away with bullying and anyone who claims that he didn't both intentionally hit Frye in the groin AND slide his foot up under him while he was in the air are so ridiculously biased that they need to just refrain from even interjecting their useless opinion. You Boston fans make me sick that you want to constantly make excuses for this douche bag. Get over yourselves. He's a punk and a thug and gets away with more crap than any other player in the NBA these days.

Kevin Garnett ejected after dirty play on Frye

If you watch the part when KG hits Frye in the balls, you can definitely see intent.
Garnett was late closing out on the shooter and he decided to give him a little tap in the sack to make up for his slowness.
The NFL would have fined him $10,000 for hitting a guy in the helmet...the purple army helmet.

Kevin Garnett ejected after dirty play on Frye

It appears Garnett is trying to imitate the dirty tactics of Bruce Bowen...Garnett used to be a great player - now he's just a dirty player...I remember Bowen got into numerous scuffles because he went underneath players in the air while shooting a jumper, and even put his feet in position to cause the player to wonder if he will blow out an ankle if he comes down on Bowen's foot...IMO, this is the dirtiest thing you can do to a player, similar to going after a guy's knee in football...Anyone who has played b-ball knows what can happen if you land on someone's foot. To do this on purpose is despicable.

And of course Perkins had to get in the middle and try to escalate an incident. Typical celtics personality complex. The celtics are the Jets of the NBA.

Sticking your foot under a player when he jumps is an old trick that is done a lot by dirty players to try and twist the ankle of their opponent. Garnet is known for cheap shots like this to get under a players skin. I watched the game and it was obvious the celtics were frustrated because they were getting their butts kicked by an inferior team.  The ejection was warranted. Personally I am sick of Garnett's classless acts sportsmanship. I would never want my kid look at Garnett as a role model. I would rather my kid have a positive influence such as a player like Duncan.

Kevin Garnett ejected after dirty play on Frye

Thats stupid. He might have flicked his nuts a little bit. He stuck is foot out a little bit when he pivoted. Not at all dirty.
I bet there is dirtier play under the boards on rebounds. Garnett is just a target right now so the spotlight is on him.
He just has to be that much more careful.
