The NBA superstar clique is generally a tight-knit, insular group and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is usually a soft-spoken, polite man.  Those realities changed a bit today, as Durant publicly called out Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh following a nationally-televised game between the two teams on Sunday.

Royce Young of CBSSports.com reports that Durant was upset with Bosh over a skirmish that took place in the first half.
"I was talking to my teammate and [Bosh] decided he wanted to put his two cents into it. I am quiet guy, laid back guy, but I’m not going to let nobody talk trash to me. He’s on a good team now so he thinks he can talk a little bit. There are a lot of fake tough guys in this league and he’s one of them."
"I’m no punk. I wasn’t even talking to him first off. He decided to butt in and I’m not going to just let that slide. Especially in our house. Like I said, he’s not one of those guys I look at and say he has a rap for talking back to guys or getting into it. He’s a nice guy. I’m not going to let that type of person say something to me like that."

The skirmish was sparked, according to the Associated Press , after a Bosh hard foul on Thunder guard James Harden.

Bosh and Durant received a double technical foul in the first quarter after Bosh hacked Harden to prevent a fast-break basket.
Here's video of the exchange that precipitated the double technical fouls on Bosh and Durant.

Durant's words mark another development in his career arc, as, up to this point, he's been content with proving himself on the court and avoiding any major exchanges of words off the court.

Here, though, Durant clearly felt that protocol had been violated. To go at Bosh in such a personal way -- poking fun at his decision to team up with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, to call into question Bosh's toughness -- shows an edge I can't recall seeing out of Durant. I kind of like it.

While many superstars couldn't get away with this type of negative commentary without catching a backlash, Durant will almost assuredly skate clean here because Bosh is reviled and mocked by so many fans for the exact reasons Durant mentions. Bosh missed a bunch of time recently with a high ankle sprain and made a huge fuss about how the injury occurred and he posed in an absolutely ridiculous Maxim shoot , for example. Who is this guy to pretend to play enforcer?

The only problem with Durant's comments, of course, is that the Heat defeated the Thunder, 108-103.  Knowing Durant and his legendary competitivess, the loss will likely stick in his craw far longer than anything Bosh did on the court.

Note: This post has been updated from a previous version to clarify quotes attributed to Durant.

Are you and idiot Micheal Jordan in 88-89 averaged 32.5 points 8 rebound 8 assists for the bulls so actually Jordan had a better year. Get your facts strait before you post garbage... Kevin Durant wasn't wrong he was mad Chris Bosh started talking trash to him not because of the Foul do you even read properly? Seriously I don't know how anyone takes you serious.

I love the intensity. I am glad he is not backing down from the Heat. Jordan put a few people in their place back in the day too and that showed his will to win.
Yeah. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you do it on the court. But when you wait for Chris Bosh to be on a plane halfway to Miami before using the media to call him out instead of doing it to his face on the court right there and then, well, that's the very definition of a "fake tough guy". Durant should look in the mirror, because that was a very bitchy fake tough guy thing to do..... especially after the Heat came into his building and took his lunch money. It sounds like a bunch of whiny sour grapes to me.

And if he did confront him on the court about it....good for him. But leave it on the court and don't use the media to toot your own horn about it.

Not sure I understand the comment from one of the replies about LeBron winning the scoring title. Not sure what that has to do with anything at all related to this article.

I don't have any problem with what KD said or did on the court. In the heat of competition, stuff like that happens. But I wish he wouldn't have said that in the press conference after the fact. It just sounds lame, especially after a defeat. Nobody's perfect. These two teams are going to both be good for several years to come. Let the rivalry begin!

Durant won the scoring title last year by default' The cavs had a bunch of losing teams to play there last 5 games so Lebron set out to rest for the playoffs and Durant passed him and won by a couple of tenths. If Lebron wanted to win the scoring title he could do it easily  every year, but he is a player who wants to give his teammates every chance to score that is why he is the only player in the history of the NBA to average 26 ppg, 7rebounds. and 7 assist a game. Jordon. Wilt, Shaq. Kobe, Gervin none of the all time greats ever did it.  I willl say though there are a couple of people if that was all they wanted was to win the scoring title would give him a run but I think he would win but again thats only my opionon. Durant was wrong tonight he started it by running his mouth when Bosh gave a really easy foul to stop the lay up it was in no way hard and everybody knows it. Durant is a class player and so is Bosh but Duran will regreat what he said after the game if they meet in the playoffs, because maybe then Bosh will show Durant what a really hard foul is.

Excellent article.  It's good to see Durant display a little verbal fire.  It's the first time I have seen Durant this animated ever over the course of 2.5 years in the NBA and one year in college.  He doesn't talk trash much but when  he does he has good reason.  If Bosh wants to talk trash than Durant has every right to retaliate and KD is right on in terms of Bosh.  Bosh has never won anything.  When his Raptors  had home floor in the playoffs against Orlando the Magic swept the Raptors and rookie Dwight Howard embarrassed Bosh.  Howard embarrasses a lot of people now but back then he was just a rookie one year out of high school.  Without Lebron and Wade, Bosh is not a guy that will come up in big moments.  The Heat should have made a stronger effort to get Carlos Boozer a much better rebounder and more effective shooter.

Kill_Switch,

I just get tired of these bangers from larger cities who think just because it's Oklahoma that we have nothing to offer and that we all live in doublewides out in the boonies. I actually live in a gated community/estate in Tulsa
and don't know a single person who lives in a trailer lol. I also believe Oklahoma is one of the richest states in oil/natural gas and has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation and like you said the state is booming.
