NBA commissioner David Stern has added Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love to the 2011 NBA All-Star team as an injury replacementyao-ming-kevin-lovefor Yao Ming. Posted by Ben Golliver.

Silly NBA fans: you voted Houston Rockets center Yao Ming into the Western Conference's starting lineup for the 2011 NBA All-Star game, even though he has only appeared in five games this season and is currently sidelined with a season-ending injury.

Thank goodness for NBA commissioner David Stern who stepped in to make things on Friday right by adding Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love to the team, in place of Yao.
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has been named by NBA Commissioner David Stern to replace injured West All-Star center Yao Ming (stress fracture, left ankle) of the Houston Rockets in the 2011 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles. This is Love’s first All-Star Game selection.
San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich, who earned the right to coach the West squad by virtue of the Spurs clinching the best record in the conference through games played Feb. 6, will determine who replaces Yao in the starting lineup.
As we noted yesterday, Love was one of the most high-profile snubs left off the original All-Star reserve lists. And, as we noted this morning, Love was pretty disappointed that he had been left off the list.

Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash was reportedly one of the favorites to replace Yao, and Portland Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge, Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis and Memphis Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph were also said to have been finalists.

The Timberwolves actively campaigned on Love's behalf, releasing a viral campaign video with a cologne theme, entitled "Numb#rs."

Love, a third-year forward out of UCLA, is averaging 21.4 points and an NBA-best 15.5 rebounds per game.

The 2011 NBA All-Star game will be played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, on Feb. 20.

Is this Isiah Thomas?  Sounds like his "If Bird was black he'd be just another good player" quote.  You saying he was only put on the NBA All-Star for his "white-marketing" value?  Last time I checked, the dude is averaging over 21ppg and 15rpg - those are outstanding, regardless of race.

It's a good call he's a great player. Also, he's white the NBA needs to display some good white players. I'm not white, but I believe in being diverse especially when it comes to marketing.

Kevin Love was the only thing McHale got right.....He is the best player on the youngest team in the league....They dont even run plays for him...He gets his pts and boards by hard work and basketball IQ....The dude is an all star....They should just expand the roster to 15....

Stern needs to implement a game like MLB, where the outcome of the game influences Home Court Advantage. Simply said, Whoever wins the all-star game gets home court advantage for the championship round. This year it would probably benefit the Heat/Celtics, and the Spurs/Lakers to try extra hard to win. I agree that the All-Star game is a major joke. I havbent watched it in years.

1. Since the all-star game is for the fans, the fans should be the ones to vote for the participants, even if they don't choose the actual best players.
2.  D-Bo got screwed, but #1 above applies.
3.  The all-star game is not a real game, but rather a ridiculous display of basketball entertainment (similar to NFL Pro Bowl) but if it is what the masses want, so be it.

So if it's all about wins, shouldn't we just have the Spurs and Celtics play in the All-Star game? No, it's the All-Star game meaning the best players through out the league should go. How is Kevin Love supposed to make the scrubs surrounding him into a playoff team? I mean what is he supposed to do score 30 points a game, get 25 rebounds a game, and add 15 assists per game? The arguement that only players on teams that win the most games should be in is just frontrunners trying to get their whole sqaud in.
