Ken Berger of provides the latest on the Carmelo Anthony trade talks between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. Posted by Ben Golliver.

On this week's edition of's NBA Drive video, Ken Berger provided the latest on possible trade discussion between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, centered around All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony and big man Andrew Bynum.

"Well, it's more than a rumor," Berger said. "There is some definite interest among some people in the Lakers organization to possibly trading Andrew Bynum for Carmelo Anthony. It's an opportunity that's just too good to pass up."

Berger said the reported trade discussions might also be an attempt by the Nuggets to improve on an offer from the New York Knicks, who are known to be interested in Anthony's services but reportedly aren't willing to sacrifice much via trade. "There's an element here of possible leverage play because the Nuggets would love to and need to have another team involved here otherwise they're just stuck negotiating against the Knicks," Berger said. "The Knicks aren't going to negotiate against themselves. It's become ever more complicated. I suspect this is not going to be the last twist and turn in this Carmelo road before the trade deadline."

Here's the video for this week's NBA Drive, hosted by Lauren Shehadi and featuring the conversation with Berger and a chat with my Eye on Basketball blogging buddy Royce Young.

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

SoxCelts, OK, so I'll respond to your post with a couple comments:

1) How much sense did the Lakers' trade for Pau Gasol a few years ago make? Are you saying that every trade makes sense? Dumb moves aren't made by GM's every year?

2) No one is interested in Artest's contract? Isn't Keith Van Horn still being paid NBA money even though he hasn't played in the league in years? Uh... didn't he get traded a few years ago to New Jersey in the blockbuster trade even though he's basically been retired for the past 5 years? I have a few other names for you: Jerry Stackhouse! Same crap... My point is, in the NBA, it's all funny money to these GMs.

3) Let's pretend this trade happens, who says you have to put Gasol and Odom in the game at the same time? You have enough offense, you slide in a blue collar guy who is there to rebound, foul, and get the occasional tip in.

4) I agree 100% about Bynum's knees... which is exactly the reason why the Lakers would make this trade. Also, with Kobe getting up there in "NBA Years", there needs to be a succession plan.  Of course, why would the Nuggets do this trade? Uh... are the Knicks offering anything better than Bynum? Doubt it.

5) Lastly, do you think Stern would like Melo in LA or in New Jersey? Think about it. I know it's never happened before. Shaq never went from Orlando to New Jersey. How about KG from Minnesota to Celtics? I already mentioned Gasol from Memphis to LA. I'm sorry... which FA's went to Milwaukee, Portland, Memphis, Sacramento, etc again? What I'm trying to get at is the NBA is about marketing and getting big market teams to be successful... and dynasties. I'm not saying it's fixed, but I'm saying there's no crying in Stern's office when the big market, traditional teams do well.

Think about it! There's more than just basketball going on here.

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

Why?  Because he let Denver know last year he didn't want to re-sign him giving them the chance to get everything in return they could?  You can't be so stupid as to hint that he is quitting on the team like AH did on the skins, Melo just dropped 50 in a game last week.  That might be the worst post ever put on sportsline.

Right now Bynum is the workhorse and Gasol and Odom do the cleanup work ... all that changes with Bynum out of the mix.
Can a guy who doesn't get 30 minutes of playing time be considered "the workhorse"?

I admit to being confused by listening to all of the talk radio in the LA radio when Bynum was out.  They were heralding his return as the thing that would make them great, because by LA standards they were "struggling".  I can't help but notice they had a better record without him than with him.  Still an excellent record, but he has not proven to have the impact a lot of people thought he would.

So wait - the verification from the earlier Berger report as to whether or not this is rumor or more than rumor is coming from....Berger?

This answer is a surprise? As opposed to him saying, "No. My earlier report had no validity and I'm really just trying to generate some publicity for myself as a credible reporter...."

Another day, another recycled Melo post from Berger. This has become some sort of absurd Groundhog day-ish nightmare. It never stops. He never stops.

"One last year to make a push"....HILARIOUS
That might apply to the "30 Something" Celtics, not the Lakers!  Talk about pipe dreaming......

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

I don't know how to say this but here it goes.......Berger is the saddest, most unimaginative writer of all time.  Nothing but Carmelo Anthony for what...six months???  How much does he make to have only one topic to follow and write about??  Clearly I'm rethinking my career choice.  At this point Berger has personal knowledge of melo's bathroom habits.....there is a whole world out there filled with things to write about or just talk about.....what if something happens to Carmelo...then what??
