Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com provides the latest on the Carmelo Anthony trade talks between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. Posted by Ben Golliver.

On this week's edition of CBSSports.com's NBA Drive video, Ken Berger provided the latest on possible trade discussion between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, centered around All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony and big man Andrew Bynum.

"Well, it's more than a rumor," Berger said. "There is some definite interest among some people in the Lakers organization to possibly trading Andrew Bynum for Carmelo Anthony. It's an opportunity that's just too good to pass up."

Berger said the reported trade discussions might also be an attempt by the Nuggets to improve on an offer from the New York Knicks, who are known to be interested in Anthony's services but reportedly aren't willing to sacrifice much via trade. "There's an element here of possible leverage play because the Nuggets would love to and need to have another team involved here otherwise they're just stuck negotiating against the Knicks," Berger said. "The Knicks aren't going to negotiate against themselves. It's become ever more complicated. I suspect this is not going to be the last twist and turn in this Carmelo road before the trade deadline."

Here's the video for this week's NBA Drive, hosted by Lauren Shehadi and featuring the conversation with Berger and a chat with my Eye on Basketball blogging buddy Royce Young.

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

Championship teams need a "Big 3" to get over the hump. This Lakers team seems to have stagnated or just lost interest in the regular season. A shake-up is needed to get some energy. Why wouldn't Carmelo be a good fit? Kobe at 2, Melo at 3, Odom at 4 and Gasol at 5. That's a pretty good line-up.

With recent rumors of interest in Dwight Howard when he becomes a FA soon, Bynum would be trade-able... now before his knees further deteriorate. I think Melo would look great in purple-and-gold. Problem is would moving Bynum/Artest be enough?

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

Berger:  " I don't care if I have to repeat it 1 million times ...  2 + 2 = 5 and the Lakers do have interest in Melo!   999,999 more times to go ... eventually if I say it enough, maybe i'll even believe it myself"  DOH Embarassed

He's so obsessed he's now arguing with Kobe...and this is the senior NBA writer at CBS.

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

For me it seems they implicated Melo with every possible team in the last weaks. But all was written so far wasn't true yet. And I think if he denies that he will go to the Lakers on the next day you can read Melo goes to Team XY. The only thing I know now for sure is that I will believe in nothing anylonger and wait till he makes an offical decision.
I'm realy tired of all these rumors.

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

CBS really needs to get a new writer for all their breaking news on the Melo trade front.  Berger has put his foot in his mouth so many times on this story that I don't think he can hold any credibility on this story anymore.

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

Okay, what is more than a rumor? Is it fact? Yet another irresponsible CBS writer trying to be the first to say I told you it would happen. Gambled and it failed. This reminds me of Doyel and his persistant nonsense of all of the NCAA conference movements. Every day it was something else. And every day it was wrong.

Just report the facts. Like you are supposed to do.

SteveLeib is right. It's been "more than a rumor" from this guy since last July.

if this wasn't true then why Phil confirm Anthony was coming to LA in this interview.......http://www.youtube.

com/watch?v=dN7Ez4QKH8g......proof that there is something going on...maybe its not Bynum and/or Artest that he is wiling to give up.....but someone else????

Berger: Carmelo to L.A. is 'more than a rumor'

Ken Berger hasn't been correct about Carmelo Anthony yet. Berger had Anthony traded five times already to the Nets.
