It looks like the Knicks are finally stepping up to the plate. Ken Berger tweeted Friday afternoon, "A person with knowledge of trade talks tells that Melo will get his wish: a legit trade proposal to ponder by the end of All-Star Weekend."

Well, it looks like that offer may actually be on the table.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that New York has indeed made an offer to the Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony that would send Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry's contract and a to-be-acquired first-rounder to Denver. Also headed to the Knicks would be Chauncey Billups and "fillers."

Newsday's Alan Hahn tweeted that a source confirms the proposed trade.

The "to be acquired first-rounder" would almost assuredly be Minnesota's for Anthony Randolph, as that has been discussed for a while. As for why Gallinari, reportedly the Nuggets had an option to pick between him and rookie Landry Fields and preferred Gallinari.

With an actual deal on the table from the team that Melo will approve, this thing could actually be headed for a conclusion. Berger tweeted, "Source on Melo's desire to reach a resolution by weekend's end: 'He'll get something.'"

Report: Knicks have offer on the table for Melo

I'm a former Knicks fan who now gets Nuggets games in the regional telecasts, so I have some interest in both teams. Don't under-estimate Billups;  he carried the Pistons to a title and, with the Nuggets, proved he was better than Allan iverson from Day 1.  The Knicks will have upgraded their team from an easy first-round knockout to a tough one--they might even be able to beat Orlando or Chicago in the first round with a couple of breaks.  Beyond this year, the void--who knows what the situation will be, but at least Melo will get paid.
I think the Nuggets may be making an error by insisting on Felton in the deal; Ty Lawson is Billups' understudy and looks ready to start at PG. I would've liked for them to put Fields--a newer-model Kenyon Martin, in some ways--in the deal instead of Felton.  In that way, the Knicks might've been covered for a good starting PG even past 2012-13, when I would project Billups might retire.

Report: Knicks have offer on the table for Melo

okay this is coming from an informed knicks fan who has been suffering since the mardy collins, randolph morris, marbury, curry, jamal crawford, d-lee. nate, and zach randolph days. i was excited for this year but as it seems now, the knicks are just a .500 team. i dont wanna hate on them but i really want to  see them do better. i dont wanna wait for next season to witness the excitement and elevated play that i could just witness next week. heres  an evaluation of the proposed trade:
chauncey for felton; there is no loss here. chauncey is a proven leader and veteran. doesnt anyone take heed to his nickname 'Mr. Big Shot'? anyone who doesnt feel hes one of the clutchest in the game doesnt know basketball. hes dropping about 17 ppg and ~6 assists pergame. the assists are bound to improve alongside added talent in amare, fields, TD, shawne williams and melo. so the moaning about losing felton should stop. sure ill miss felton but hes gunna be gone regardless in a year. dont look down on chauncey, hes a proven championship team leader. so thats a major benefit with the pg swap. he is also a bigger player, providing a tad bit more defense and toughness than felton, and felton provides alot of toughness. age isnt a factor. the most hed be playing here is two years, last year he averaged the most in his career, about 20 ppg.
wilson chandler is a nice player and i love him to death, but honestly, the games a business and 1) i dont think the knicks will be able to resign him this offseason 2) he becomes beyond expendable with the addition of melo. honestly, what will he do? hell become a shooter and i really dont wanna see Will having to settle for long jumpers for the rest of his knick career.  3) he says he only wants to play for the knicks, if thats the case he could gladly work out a contract with the knicks to be able to fit in without majorly disrupting the payroll. the defense that wilson provides will be missed but landry fields and azabukie are excellent defenders against guards.
the first rounder is insignificant, as is anthony randolph. i dont feel that he can be a star, maybe a jared jeffries-trevor ariza, but hes too lanky and undevoloped.
trading eddy curry is a no brainer
now this is the toughest nail in the trade: gallinari. the same fate chandler will receive will go to gallinar should he stay. he wouldnt be the slasher and shooter he is now. the system will force him to rely on outside shooting to help out amare and melo. this is not bad but it doesnt really maximize his potential, making him just another shooter. as much as id love to keep gallinari, one of my favorite players, i want to see him blossom somewhere else, rather than having his skills confined by amare-melo. his defense and grit will be missed but everything that he does, melo can do better. either way, i hope there is a way gallinari would be pulled out the trade.
now imagine this lineup: billups, fields, melo, amare, mozgov
billups is more than solid at PG. fields is an extraordinary player at his position who will knock down the shots he takes on the outside, provides strong defense, rebounds very well, and has major potential.melo at the three, is the best it gets. any moaners about his defense have to shutup. hes one head to head matches with lebron before, including one where he matched him for 40+ points and hit a game winner against him. he will step up his defense come crunch time and playoff time. hell be able to go head to head with ANY of the scores in the league. hell also have more assists numbers given the knicks circle of perimeter shooters around him to bail him out when he drives and gets stuck. he will also develop his game and leadership here.amare at the four. we already see what he has done. this is his team and he is friends with melo so there will not be any conflict between scoring. coach will work out the system to maximize melo and amares talents. im sure they can work together and will be more dominant that the wade-lebron tandem.mozgov is capable of providing a strong inside presence, and a big body to counter the likes of perkins, shaq, dwight, joakim, bynum etc. he will have less pressure to perform at a higher level and in turn will feel more relaxed and confident in what he is asked to do.
the bench will include: shawne williams at backup 2,3, or 4. he also has defensive grit. tony douglas at backup PG, and a spark off the bench with nice defense. chauncey will also help develop his pg game. turiaf  will do what he always does and provide more than solid defense off the bench, and energy, which we all have witnessed. anthony carter will serve as the legit backup PG we have needed. if kelenna azabukie comes back, hell be just as good as landry has been, if not a bit better with a nice stroke. we also have andry rautins, a future j.j. redickk. this bench has performed well all season and there will be no major changes to it.
the defense will still be here and will be aided by melo's wearing down other players.this is a trade we must do now because i really want to see this team become a contender this season rather than next.
if anyone sees anything i dont, positive or negative, please point it out.

Report: Knicks have offer on the table for Melo

Well ghandi2 here it is. One more Player then I thought in Trade from the Knicks. So this means we keep Fields. Now it will be Stoudamire-Melo-Center-Billups-Fiel

. Your right about the Bench. It will be weak. But the Starters will be good enough. Douglas-Mozgov-Williams are on the Bench and need to play well. Again I will stick with 106 Points a Game. I hope your wrong ghandi2 that they will give up 110 a game. I dont know in this Trade who the fillers are but let the Trade begin

Report: Knicks have offer on the table for Melo

As A Knicks fan this trade is stupid now. Sure Melo would be nice but to give up on Felton and Gallinari, for Billups who will be gone next year back to Denver. Second of all he's too old to run this fast break offense, with these players we will need to score 125 a game to win any, because the defense gets alot worse. I just hope they get Paul soon then it can happen, anyway if I'm wrong I will own up. but they will sell tickets and get more interest!

Not to mention getting Billups too.  Granted he is getting a bit old but he still has a couple years left in him.  He will also do a good job of setting up Stoudemire down low and clearly he is already on the same page as Melo.

I completely agree, I feel like this trade is still in favor of Denver, but the outcome is better for the Knicks. They have struggled to be a top contender for many years. Now they are getting two stars together to help make this team a contender. I mean Anthony obviously led the Nuggets to the amount of wins they have, and Amare (Coming from a suns fan) Was a BEAST in Phoenix. I think they both are use to having to take over a game so there going to want to work together to get a championship in New York.

So honestly Knicks fans, This should have you excited to be able to say you have a threat from the arc and a threat under the rim, i wouldn't want it any other way.

Hopefully the Knicks buck up and get this done, it will gain them many fans.  I like watching basketball but cannot really say there is one team in partiular I root for.  That would change if they get this trade done and I am sure that there are many more like me.  That won't be the case if he goes to the Nets.  Who wants to watch a team owned by a Russian unless you are watching them hoping they lose.  I don't really relate to a billionaire all that well and definately don't relate to russain billionaire.  I don't dislike them as people; but as far as sporting events go, I don't know too many Americans who were rooting for Dolph Lundgren in Rocky 4.

This trade seems so ludicrous for the Knicks, and although I'm a Laker fan and still would love to see Carmelo Anthony play for you guys, the fact that you're not only giving up Gallinari but ALSO Raymond Felton is tragic.  I honestly thought the nucleus of Felton, Amare, and Chandler was working out rather well for you guys but who knows.  At least Billups has all of maybe 2 or 3 seasons left in his legs, so that was an even trade yes?
Who knows, maybe the "fillers" are going to be someone like Chris Anderson, so the Knicks fans can hate on that guy like the Nuggets fans already do.
This does look extremely promising for the Nuggets though, they get to fill up on young, solid, and for the most part consistent starters in Gallinari, Felton and Chandler, and they get to dump off Eddy Curry's contract in a year.  Not only that, they get rid of aging Billups, so they have a PG tandem of former Tar Heels guards Felton and Lawson; I'm really looking forward to that.
If this trade goes through, I'm still looking at the Nuggets to be a playoff team this season, I don't know if I could honestly say that about the Knicks though.  They're gonna have such a weak bench it'll be kind of ridiculous.  Players that saw maybe 10 minutes a game will now be seeing 20, and that's not a good thing.  I guess we'll honestly just have to see.  At least this trade does make this damn interesting as we close out this year's NBA trade deadline.
