It looks like the Knicks are finally stepping up to the plate. Ken Berger tweeted Friday afternoon, "A person with knowledge of trade talks tells that Melo will get his wish: a legit trade proposal to ponder by the end of All-Star Weekend."

Well, it looks like that offer may actually be on the table.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that New York has indeed made an offer to the Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony that would send Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry's contract and a to-be-acquired first-rounder to Denver. Also headed to the Knicks would be Chauncey Billups and "fillers."

Newsday's Alan Hahn tweeted that a source confirms the proposed trade.

The "to be acquired first-rounder" would almost assuredly be Minnesota's for Anthony Randolph, as that has been discussed for a while. As for why Gallinari, reportedly the Nuggets had an option to pick between him and rookie Landry Fields and preferred Gallinari.

With an actual deal on the table from the team that Melo will approve, this thing could actually be headed for a conclusion. Berger tweeted, "Source on Melo's desire to reach a resolution by weekend's end: 'He'll get something.'"

Report: Knicks have offer on the table for Melo

Bandpigeons and others-- why in the world trade ANY player-- let alone Galo, Felton and Chandler-- when you can get Melo next year for NOTHING?  This whole thing just infuriates me and boggles my mind.  Melo wants to play for the Knicks-- end of story.  Can you imagine what kind of team the Knicks could easily have with Melo, Amare, Felton, Galo, Chandler, and all?  Every time I've heard an ESPN reporter breathlessly say: "The Nets are back in it!!!"  "The Lakers are back in it too!"  Heck, why not have the Memphis Grizzly announce "We want to make an offer for Melo!"  IT DOESN'T MATTER-- BECAUSE THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT MELO ISN'T PLAYING FOR ANYONE BUT THE KNICKS NEXT YEAR.  The Nuggets have been playing Dolan for the fool he is.  The Nets could offer their whole team and draft picks from here to eternity, and the deal won't be made because Melo would never sign a contract extension to get the deal done.  You think any team is making any trade to have Melo for half a year?  The Knicks could have had the best team in the league next year.  But Dolan is a fool-- and anyone who doesn't see that Melo has never had any intention of signing with any team other than the Knicks is blind to reality.

I would still wait til the end of the season and keep Gallo, Felton, and Chandler. Losing those guys would weaken the team. Even with Melo and Billups, the Knicks are still not contenders. Needs some D and rebounders.

@bannedpigeons...Fields is a better player than Gallinari...Fields leads all guards in rebounding...we need a hustler to go with the 2 studs.

Report: Knicks have offer on the table for Melo

I hear what you're saying but as a loyal Knicks fan for 20 years, I dying to see some star power back in New York. Everyone is saying that Melo doesn't play defense. HELLO!!! Have you see who our coach is?! Plus, if this organization is serious about getting back to playoff contention in the future, free agents like Darren Williams and Chris Paul will be available next year to go grab and be great additions to the team. If James Dolan is noticing what his fellow NY team owners are doing, he would send all those men for Melo and Billups in a heartbeat.

3)Denver - Has no choice but to take almost anything we offer, Melo wants to come here the Nets are a joke turned into tragedy with their incestuous rekindled chase after the boss claimed this to be a dead issue several weeks ago, and can i just ask, wth does anyone want with favors or harris?? i understand the potential with favors, but he has showed just about nothing so far, and harris is a multi week injury waiting to happen consistantly! If im denver, I take Chandler, Douglass, Randolf, Curry maybe mozgov or fields and maybe even a draft pick or two and call it a victory.

4)WAIT! - Why cant we just wait till offseason and sign Melo then? He would sign with Denver before the Nets I think, and he is clearly not interested in doing that, I dont care what anyone says, $65Mill has been waiting and collecting dust, He wants to rep the Garden and lead us to a championship on the same floor he did it in college and for the first time in my lifetime! Denver knows this and ultimately will have to cave.

Are you not following the news.  f-ing melo is going to the Nets unless we step up.  you and other a-holes have just sunk us.  if this is a technique to get the Knicks to offer more... it's working let's step up and give him what he needs to be a Knick.  Maybe too late.

Giving up Gallinari will be a big mistake. He hasn't reached his full potential. Getting Billups is no help because he can't play the coach's brand of basketball...he is too old. You need energetic PG in that system and Billups won't last 5 games before he is hurt. I would let Denver sweat this out until Thursday when they will be more willing to trade or get nothing in return.

I'm guess Dolan reads these posts and was looking for advice, so it's good you posted this.  Especially since you refer to the team as us...that will really convince him you know what is best
