Carmelo Anthony and agent meets with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z in Los Angeles to discuss prospective trade for Nets to acquire All-Star.
Posted by Matt Moore

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com has confirmed an AP report that Carmelo Anthony and Nets majority and minority owners Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z met earlier Saturday night to discuss the Nets' interest in acquiring the All-Star small forward.  The meeting occurred just hours after Prokhorov released a statement through his spokesperson stating no meeting had taken place or was planned, and that they would have no further comment on the matter. The meeting also coincided with a renewed interest from the Knicks as owner James Dolan has become more involved in the talks, Berger reports.

ESPN reports that the Nets meeting lasted 40 minutes and included Anthony's agent Leon Rose and advisor Bay Frazier, as well as Nets CEO Brett Yormark and GM Billy King. Melo was reportedly "noncomittal" following the meeting, and Yahoo! Sports reports that the Nets "didn't come away very confident."

So the Nets got their meeting, and failed to hit the home run. But they're not out of it yet. Their biggest problem? James Dolan, who has become involved in the negotiations on the Knicks' side, and is offering up more and more assets to get the second superstar, threatening to damage the leverage Donnie Walsh has very carefully maintained throughout these negotiations. The Nets' biggest advantage? Their remaining ability to threaten Melo by not trading him, then taking his extension offer off the table, leaving him high and dry for the extra money entering a new CBA.

The Nets have now offered three picks, Devin Harris and Derrick Favors for Melo in a three-way, walked away and said they were through, come back, offered the same deal plus an extra pick, said they weren't meeting with Melo, reaffirmed they weren't meeting with Melo, then met with Melo, and now they still don't have a deal.

You've got to give it to the Russian, though.

He's a persistent dude.

Melo, Nets meet with no resolution

Confident that a Friday night meeting between Anthony, his representatives, and a contingent led by Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov and hip-hop mogul Jay-Z did not result in a commitment from Anthony to sign an extension with New Jersey, the Knicks are drawing the line. They are not offering rookie or Russian center , two pieces Denver has asked for at various times in the negotiations, sources said.

Well that is good to read. Then the Trade we hear is all that is being offered. We will need Fields and Mozgove to go with Stoudamire-Melo-and Billups. I just hope this all ends tonight and we know who is on the Knicks. I am hoping this Trade happens as I cannot stand to watch this Year the Knicks not make Playoffs or get in and get killed the 1ST Round

Melo, Nets meet with no resolution

The Nets are offering up way too much to get this prima donna twit who will probably just whine his way out of town again after a couple of losing seasons.

However for them you can see this is just as much about keeping Carmelo off the Knicks right now as it is about putting him on the Nets. If Melo goes to NY he will make the Nets that much more of an afterthought in the five boroughs, even when they move to Brooklyn. This is way more a business decision than a basketball one and it really is a shame that the NBA has come to this.

The new CBA is going to have to make some serious adjustments to protect smaller markets and prevent drama queens like Lebron and Carmelo from running the league. Even if it takes a long work stoppage, they NEED a hard cap and/or a franchise player tag.

They're averaging 106 per game right now.  So you're basically saying adding Melo would cost the Knicks 2 points per game.
Who the hell are you?  Isiah Thomas?

Are you kidding me LDK ? You want to compare what Im saying to you using First Grade Math. I know the Knicks average 106 now because its just that a avergae. You think I give a heck that they score 122 Points against some last Place Team then lose the next night to a Playoff Team by only scoring 90 Points? Then a guy like you say well add 122 and 90 and they are averaging 106 Points a Game. Get a Clue. Averaging beating the heck out of bad Teams and Losing to good Teams by scoring 90 Points means Nothing. What I Posted is the KNICKS SCORING 104 to 106 a GAME EVERYNIGHT not just against The bottom feeder Teams. I will say again this is a Great Trade. The only bad thing is our Bench got weaker by Losing Chandler

Starting Lineup is a UPGrade

Stoudamire-25 to 28
Melo- 24-27
Mozgov-8-11
Fields- 10-13
Billups-15-18

Bench

Douglas-8-9
Turiaf- 7-8
Williams-6-7

Like I said this Team can score 104-105=106- Everynight. Not your way LDK scoring 122 against the worst Teams and scoring 90 against good Teams and Losing and then claiming the Knicks average 106 a Game. Its all a smoke Screen now. This current Team is barely a 500 Team. The Team above will make noise in the Playoffs. AND SCORE 104/106 EVERYNIGHT !!!!!

Give me a job CBS!  I cannot believe not one single reporter has mentioned the fact that if Melo does become a Free Agent and risks leaving 20 million on the table that he will now be playing in NY for the Knicks.  He will easily make that 20 million up his first year in endorsements and Jersey sales.  NY is the biggest market in the world and his face will be on every billboard from Albany to Staten Island.

Dear Melonhead--stay in denver--go to the nets--play for the lakers---WHO CARES?  please stop reporting on this non story.  nobody cares what he had for lunch or how long his meetings lasted.  he should spend his time in LA with the other geniuses (LeDuche, DWADE etc) and get the cba deal done--how could it not with smart guys like this attending the meet?

I have to side with the proofreading first argument. Nice try though.

"Dolan has become more involved in the talks and is advising Dolan on.....", You mean, advising Walsh?

"The Nets' biggest advantage? Their remaining ability to threaten Melo by not trading him....", You mean, the Nuggets?

Very High. Unlike in other sorts of journalism, these guys just type it up and send it out. They don't have 5 people read it over and make sure everything is alright before they submit it. Nice try though.
