Report: Jared Jeffries to sign with Knicks

In the massive Carmelo Anthony trade, the Knicks opened up a roster spot. They look to fill it Friday morning with Jared Jeffries who is expected to be bought out by the Rockets, tweets Alan Hahn of Newsday.

Jeffries of course was a member of the Knicks last season before being sent with Jordan Hill to Houston for Tracy McGrady.

Obviously the Rockets are looking to save some cash and don't have a ton of reason to keep Jeffries as he's sort of buried behind Luis Scola and Patrick Patterson.

The Knicks are looking for a little more help inside and on the wing, so Jeffries will definitely help them there. He's an underrated defender and uses his length really well. He's not an impressive scorer, but he's tough and gritty. Most years, Jeffries is near the top in the league in charges drawn.

Where exactly he fits into the rotation is yet to be seen. He can play small forward or power forward, but will likely be used backing up Carmelo Anthony, as well as playing some interior minutes behind Amar'e Stoudemire.

What Jeffries gives the Knicks is depth, something they're lacking after sending 45 players to the Nuggets to get Melo. Jeffries isn't the big man to solve all of the Knicks interior defensive and rebounding issues, but he's certainly someone that will help.

"Better off playing 4 on 5, than having jared jeffries. He sucks. Cant stand this guy. Misses lay ups. Misses free throws. Terrible."

Knicks need another scorer because?  Explain please.  I'm not understanding.

Back up Carmelo at SF?

Royce, get your head out of your a$$.

Jeffries is 6'11" and will be brought in to play center.  He and Turiaf (also a smidge under 7 feet) will eat up most of the center minutes.

JJ is NOT a small forward and is NOT being brought in as such.  The Knicks have enough guys 6'7"-6'9" to back up Carmelo.

They will release Balkman to sign Jeffries.  They never wanted Balkman, they had to have the contract for trade purposes.

Would rather they sign Earl Barron, but Jefferies is a good defender and tall presence and it's exactly what we needed.

I guess. I never understood the allure with this guy. Isiah likes this guy so it's probably an Isiah via Dolan move. Everyone mentions this guys defense and toughness, I don't remember seeing either during his first go around with the Knicks. Isiah needs to fall in a cave for 20 years and leave the Knicks alone.

At least this time he is getting paid a ridiculous amount of money like Isiah gave him.  I liked his style of play because he played defense, but the first time we signed him, we gave him way too much money.  His contract was why they traded him the first time.  We were trying to get Lebron and his contract ran beyond last summer, so they dumped him off for Tmac's expiring deal.  He is a role player who plays defense and not a player who deserved a $30 million contract that Isiah gave him.  Not a center, but he gives the team size and defense.  He will be useful for the playoffs because of his defense.
