Five members of the Detroit Pistons skipped shootaround on Friday. Posted by Ben Golliver. rip-hamilton

The Detroit Pistons have been a disaster all season, and after the organization failed to move any of its disgruntled veterans prior to Thursday's trade deadline, five players staged a "protest" by skipping practice on Friday, according to the Detroit News.
Tracy McGrady, Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton and Chris Wilcox did not show up to Friday's morning shootaround. Ben Wallace also wasn't present, but has been dealing with an ongoing family matter for the past several weeks.
The players have not been happy with their coach, seemingly all season, for the way he communicates, among other reasons they've given.
A team's spokesperson provided (suspicious) medical excuses for McGrady and Prince, but had no explanation for why Wilcox and Hamilton missed shootaround. Additionally, Austin Daye and Rodney Stuckey showed up late, according to the paper.

Detroit's coach, John Kuester, has had his fair share of battles this season. Hamilton said he was "offended" by how Kuester handled his minutes while Prince said his moves were "buffoonery." He's clearly not cut out for managing this drama.

But even if your coach is terrible and in way over his head, there is no excuse for simply deciding not to show up to work. Certainly Pistons president Joe Dumars will need to discipline those who protested, unless he's joined his players and his fanbase by being past the point of caring anymore.

The Pistons, or whichever portion of the Pistons decides to show up, face off against the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 PM Friday night.

Yeah it's the end of the NBA and society. Kind of like when Magic Johnson got Paul Westhead fired. Wait a minute.... that kicked off the golden age of the NBA, lol.

The direct cause of all the tropuble with the Detroit team comes from a draft a few years ago when Detroit had the #2 pick over all, and totally wiffed on it. Look around the league - who are the stars deciding where they want to play - from that draft. Who should be leading Detroit now - someone from that draft. #2 pick, and what a stupid, stupid choice. With leadership in Detroit like that, what can we expect from the team. It got old, and there was no player who was there to take leadership, fill in as others grew old. Sorry, this Detroit team is the complete failure of Joe Dumars.

I said it yesterday, I said it last week, I said it last month, I said it last year, and I'll say it again today. It's a PLAYERS league! It's laughable that the NBA still calls coaches, well "Coaches". Outside of Jackson and Pops, no "coach" in the league can and will ever gain the player's respect in todays NBA. Like MLB, the NBA needs to change the title from "coach" to manager. Hood ornament would be better but manager sounds more professional. I didn't know NBA players kept up with current events other than what is on Sportscenter and TMZ, but apparently in Detroit they do, staging a protest. Sad that the rest of the world protests for a better life and these prima donna's are worried about playing time? "We're talking Playin Time"! Good news is the season is almost over and the guys in Detroit won't have to worry about playing anymore games once the regular season is over.
Ps. Funny how this is happening with the Pistons, with McGrady there??!!!

I don't like Kuester, really - but at least he's a MAN. He is the coach, not those
pieces of garbage that skip shootarounds... All because he wants them to play a certain
way, or actually give 100%. That's what Rasheed did to this team...
Bunch of ghetto garbage.

The 6 that played are my new favorite Pistons.

Joe D. needs to shoulder most of the blame for this debacle. I know he worked his magic to win a championship in 2004, but this team has needed an overhaul for at least three years.

I don't consider trading for A.I. (the epitome of a team player) an overhaul.

He gives Rip and Prince bloated coontract extensions.

Drafted Rodney S. to play the point; he can't and never will.

He makes his big splash in free agency by spending all of his cap space on superstars like Charlie V. and undersized shooting guard Ben G.

He turns down a trade offer from the Mavs to swap Prince for Caron Butler's expiring contract and a first round pick, thinking he could get more value from some other (sucker) team. Really Joe!? I think I saw Prince warming the bench with his piss poor attitude last night. I'm sure teams will be lining up at your door to throw 3 or 4 first rounders at your feet for T.P.

To top it off. Hiring two coaches over the past three years with no head coaching experience to coach this overpaid assortment of ill-fitting pieces has been a huge mistake.

Maybe the Pistons can lose the rest of their games and end up with the second overall pick. Maybe there's another Darko out there who can save the franchise.    &

Hmmmmm...21 wins and 39 losses and of course its the coaches fault.  this embarassment of a team should never speak publicly.  they are the showcase of how bad this league is.  bunch of over the hill losers hanging one for another paycheck.  t-mac has been stealing money from stupid owners for years and has the stones to miss a shootaround--of course he probably doesnt make his shots in practice either.  what a joke these fools are and the best part is NOBODY cares--this was probably the first article written on these bums since the season started.  Go away--you all STINK

Let's just get rid of all of the non-essential Pistons and keep the younger player base..., oh, wait, Joe didn't do that at the trade deadline...FAIL.  The new owner must fire EVERYONE that has created a disturbance in the organization.  Including Joe D for continuing to let it happen.  This is an embarassment to the organization and the fans.  The Lions actually aren't the embarassment anymore.  Go figure.

It will be interesting to see how Joe D handles this situation.  In my opinion, I believe he's rebeling against Karen Davidson, that's why these players continue to not show up on game day, and when they do, they whine like little kids.  A regular person would have been fired for such defiance.

Got to love the NBA...
