Pistons skip shootaround to protest coach Kuester

Five members of the Detroit Pistons skipped shootaround on Friday. Posted by Ben Golliver. rip-hamilton

The Detroit Pistons have been a disaster all season, and after the organization failed to move any of its disgruntled veterans prior to Thursday's trade deadline, five players staged a "protest" by skipping practice on Friday, according to the Detroit News.
Tracy McGrady, Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton and Chris Wilcox did not show up to Friday's morning shootaround. Ben Wallace also wasn't present, but has been dealing with an ongoing family matter for the past several weeks.
The players have not been happy with their coach, seemingly all season, for the way he communicates, among other reasons they've given.
A team's spokesperson provided (suspicious) medical excuses for McGrady and Prince, but had no explanation for why Wilcox and Hamilton missed shootaround. Additionally, Austin Daye and Rodney Stuckey showed up late, according to the paper.

Detroit's coach, John Kuester, has had his fair share of battles this season. Hamilton said he was "offended" by how Kuester handled his minutes while Prince said his moves were "buffoonery." He's clearly not cut out for managing this drama.

But even if your coach is terrible and in way over his head, there is no excuse for simply deciding not to show up to work. Certainly Pistons president Joe Dumars will need to discipline those who protested, unless he's joined his players and his fanbase by being past the point of caring anymore.

The Pistons, or whichever portion of the Pistons decides to show up, face off against the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 PM Friday night.

This is just more of the same garbage from McGrady who once sat out the last ~10 games or so for Orlando because their record was so bad.  It's always about him.  He's the biggest asshole in the league since Karl Malone.

It's called standing up for a teammate, who is a veteran and a leader on their team...Pistons brass has screwed up that organization big time. Coach is an idiot, and was hired by idiots. O'doyle Rules.

The Pistons are just paying for the terrible move they made 2 years ago. While teams were clearing cap space in the summer of 2009, Detroit went out and signed two of the biggest free agents in Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. Both have had disappointing seasons, both often injured. Those two contracts have crippled the franchise for the next few years.

Detroit really needs to go with a youth movement though. They are not even close to being a playoff team as currently assembled. They really should have moved Tayshaun Prince out of all of them. He is essentially an older version of Austin Daye, who at this point in his career should be taking up big minutes. I'm not sold on Stuckey, but if he's all they got then so be it. T-MAC shouldn't have signed with Detroit if he's going to request to be moved halfway through the season. He's getting starter minutes too, so I don't know what his problem is.

This just in...

It's been reported that whiny millionaires , , and did not show up to Friday's morning shootaround due to the fact that they lack any spines and will find themselves broke and playing D ball with Antoine Walker if they're lucky.

There's not a person on this board who should be defending these fools.  They make more money than most people will ever see in their lives and the only reason they're pissed is because they see other players around them in the league getting moved and they're still in Detroit.  To me, their conduct can't be any more pathetic.

Now Joe D., it's your turn. These are the same guys that won you a championship, now you trying to tell me they're not hungry for another one, please!
This roster of Detroit Pistons is nowhere near the team that took the title in 2004 under Larry Brown.  You must have missed a couple of things the last few years if you think these are the guys who won a title.

Chauncey Billups left three years ago and is now playing with New York.
Mike James left immediately after winning the title with Detroit and continues to try and play for every team in the league.
Lindsey Hunter left three years ago and isn't even playing anymore.
Mehmet Okur left immediately after winning the title and has been with Utah ever since.
Rasheed Wallace went to join the Celtics in 2009 and retired the following year.
Darko Milicic has played for four different teams since leaving Detroit after the '05-'06 season.
Even Ben Wallace left in 2006 and just came back to Detroit last season.

Only Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton are the two Pistons who haven't played anywhere else but Detroit since winning their rings back in '04.

Run these fools out of town.  Hamilton, Prince, Stuckey, and whoever else.. make them sit until they grow old.  I hope the entire NBA is watching.  Dumars, don't mess this up!

If you don't like the coach or get your way just don't show up. Great example you guys are setting for the kids that look to be like you. People wonder why things are the way they are.

and you went to your boss' boss and he did something about it. You didn't decide not to work as a protest. If the players went to the coach's boss and nothing was done its because the higher ups don't think there is a problem. You're paid to come to work so do what you're paid for. I would suspend those players with out pay for the rest of the yearand that is what they deserve!!!!!

Good for them.
They've said they are unhappy to someone and why they are unhappy and nothing gets done.So protest.I don't think it's breach of contract when it's 5-6 guys saying this is a poor situation.
We had a boss one time that did nothing all day but hop on our ass to do the impossible.
Eventually we went to the owner and the guys was caught saying he was working from home and was out on his boat at noon on a Friday.
Sometimes drastic measures are called for.
Fire the coach and be done with it.
