Posted by Matt Moore

Update 10:27 p.m. EST: A Hornets release says that Paul was placed on the stretcher as a precaution after complaining of neck pain. Tests results at the hospital were negative, and he has been diagnosed with a concussion.  He has been released, rejoined the team and is listed as "out." We'll keep you updated on his status for the Hornets going forward.

Updated 8:56 p.m. EST: Chris Paul's older brother informs fans on Twitter that Paul's "ok." He says that Paul wanted to get off the stretcher and play. Everything's looking good for this situation.

Update 8:41 p.m. EST: Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reports that per a Hornets spokesperson, Paul did not lose feeling in his extremities due to the injury, another encouraging sign. The injury has been described as a head injury.

Update 8:29 p.m. EST : Paul was taken to the hospital but is responsive and aware of his surroundings. All good signs.

Original report: Hornets guard Chris Paul suffered a potentially serious head injury Sunday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the third quarter against the Cavs, Paul drove the lane, then lost the ball off his leg, as he turned to try and recover the ball in the lane, his head slammed into Ramon Sessions' shoulder and arm. Paul fell to the floor and lay motionless for several minutes. He was eventually removed from the floor via stretcher , and gave a brief thumbs up, indicating movement in his extremities, always a good sign.

Paul has been taken to a Cleveland hospital for examination . We'll keep you updated on his condition as more information becomes available. Sessions was not significantly injured in the incident.

Chris Paul suffers concussion

Stretcher?  Neck pain?  Are you serious?  An NFL player gets a concussion and the training staff has to take his helmet away to keep him off the field.  There is a reason why the NBA is falling farther and farther back in terms of popularity compared to the NFL.  These guys are incredibly overpaid AND crybabies.  I'm not saying Chris wasn't hurt, but can we say overreaction?  I knew the kid in middle school and high school and he was a punk then and still is.  He'll be fine.  He got a headache and a big bump on the noggin, but he'll be back in a week.
Looks like you was hit one too many time and lost some of your brain cells.

Chris Paul suffers concussion

Yeah and one of my childhood heroes, Dave Duerson, just offed himself in part because of depression brought on by brain damage.  Paul will retire in his 30s and have a whole life to live.  If there is a significant risk of brain damage that takes priority over his job.  Nothing crybaby about that.  He just has the proper perspective on his health and his life.  More people should.

Chris Paul suffers concussion

Here's to a speedy recovery but not too speedy. It is good to see that from all accounts he is OK. With the size and speed of the athletes in todays game it is very surprising this does not happen more. I hope he is smart about it and takes his time.

Paul Has Played Injured All Year

I hope CP3 is okay.  That said, there has to be something wrong health wise with him because he is a shadow of his former self.  He can't get to the rim anymore.  He's downplayed using injury as an excuse, but even with his great assist to turnover ratio I'd still rather have Derrick Rose, Deron Williams or Russell Westbrook playing point for me over CP3.  Maybe he'll turn around next year.  Or maybe this is the beginning of a long downhill slide due to degenerative arthritis in his knees.  Wouldn't be the first.

Chris Paul suffers concussion

You're a moron and i literally hope you break your leg in traffic and get killed by an oncoming truck.  Anyway, i hope cp3 is ok.  Too good of a guy and way too good of a point guard to be injured.  Hope for the best.

Moron?  Pot, meet kettle.

Chris Paul injured, taken off on stretcher

I will agree no time to correct spelling.

Hopefully Paul is ok. A scary moment. All the talk is around money and contracts but this shows how quickly it can all be over.
