Erik Spoelstra, LeBron react to 'crygate'

So evidently the Miami Heat cried yesterday. It made big news. We're all talking about it today.

This morning, Erik Spoelstra met with the media following the Heat's practice and did what any damage control expert would tell him to do: Blame it on the media.

"I think you guys (the media) can probably take anything I say and turn it into a story," Spoelstra said. "I was shocked when [PR man Tim Donovan] told me about it this morning that it's actually making the news. I think you guys can be a little more creative than that. I will say one thing, the guys care. Nobody was whimpering in the locker room."

"It's a classic case of sensationalism [by the media]," Spoelstra continued. He then said he didn't regret it and even tried to joke it away by dubbing it "crygate." (I must admit, that's pretty clever.)

While saying it, Spoelstra had the look of a man that knew he has royally screwed the pooch but was trying to just laugh it off as no big deal. Couldn't believe it was actually making the news? And you didn't know until this morning? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah right.

Spoelstra kind of backtracked when asked if players were actually crying. He kind of said no, just saying heads were down and there was lots of noise.

It was an obvious plan of attack from the Heat as Spoelstra waited until he was asked about it and then played dumb, pulling the blame the media routine. It's one of the easiest ways to deflect criticism. It's not my fault. You guys are the ones making a big deal of it. I prefer people to stand up and tell it how it is. I think the general public (and media) respect that more than pointing fingers. It wouldn't have been hard for Spoelstra to say, "Yeah, a couple guys were upset. They cared about the game. We're not going to apologize for caring."

LeBron had his coach's back on the matter. "Spo is the captain... we stand behind anything he says."

I do think this is an example of us -- fans, media, general onlookers -- of kind of getting excited about a simple statement. So the Heat may or may not have cried a bit in the locker room. Just like most anything Heat related, it's turned into big news. We'll all move on here soon enough when they choke a crunch time play this week.

I am apparently very much the clown. I just looked up his stats for this year versus his career and he is basically doing what he has always done, with only about a one-offensive-rebound-per-game drop this season.  That might be due to the fact that he is on a team with two amazing scorers who offer fewer chances at offensive rebounds. Boozer? Injured again.  Welcome to the rough-and-tumble Eastern conference.

As soon as you throw a giant concert\party for your three stars before they ever even practice together and spend the entire summer declaring yourselves as sure NBA champions when you never even made it past the first round of the playoffs last year--yeah, you brought on the media attention yourselves and you can just deal with it.

Heat spend so much money and have these crying babies playing softball. Shame shame shame............Mr Riley should :
a) fire the baby coach and b) use the money to put more toilet tissues in the locker room

I don't know why Spoelstra should even have to come out and try to clear things up for the media.  If my team was losing and in the locker room crying after the game....I'd call them out to the media too!  They shouldn't be crying in the first place!  It's not his fault his team of superstars can't pull it together and beat ANY of the top teams in the NBA.  It's not his fault his team blew a 24 pt lead in the 2nd half.  It's not his fault his 2 superstars couldn't convert on a last second shot to seal the deal against the Bulls.  Why should Spoelstra have to take the HEAT when they lose??  He doesn't get the glory when they win does he?  People don't say "wow, Eric Spoelstra really coached them to that win tonight" do they?  I feel sorry for ANY coach that has to deal with 2 GINORMOUS ego's like Wade and Lebron.  If these guys were really crying after the game, it wasn't because they lost...it's because their ego's took a massive blow and they knew everybody was going to be cheering!

I love this...although I would be surprised if Lebron cried because crying takes effort and we all no he doesn't give effort.  Lebron is weak minded,  a pretender.  I can't believe a guy could be that big and athletic,  but be so soft.  He's a quitter, always has been.  When thing s don't go his way he pouts and whines.  He did it H.S.  It doesn't matter the NBA is an unwatchable joke.  The real basketball season is getting ready to start.  March Madness is where athletes actually give an effort and care about the game.  I would guarantee that less than half of the players in the NBA actually care about winning, their teammates,  hard work,  the city they represent, or the fans.  They just want that big paycheck so they can be on cribs or in movies.  If people were smart they would not watch the NBA.

How stupid does this coach AND this team think we are? I mean it's just unreal. The media's fault? Hey E, YOU SAID IT! They were your OWN words. You said the players were crying...exact words.

The reason we all hate the "Heatles" is because they keep saying stupid things and making lame tweets...nevermind throwing your World Championship party BEFORE the season even started.  You are damn right Wade, this is what we all wanted, but don't try and spin it. We DO NOT feel sorry for you chokers.

Have fun getting bounced out of the playoffs by Chicago Queen James.
