Perkins calls Pau 'soft', Phil Jackson 'arrogant'

Most everyone said it when the Thunder acquired Kendrick Perkins. He’s going to bring something different to town. He’s tough, he’s big, he’s physical and he’s not shy about speaking his mind. If Chris Bosh is a fake tough guy, Perkins is every bit of real tough guy as you can get. And in a locker room that’s mostly tight-lipped with every cliche down pat and ready to use in any situation, Perkins has a candidness that we haven’t really ever seen here.

In the newest issue of ESPN the Mag , Perkins and Kevin Durant were both asked a couple of the same questions with both having mostly differing opinions. All of it was pretty interesting, but the question, “Lakers: Team to beat or old news?” brought out the best in Perk.

“Yesterday’s news,” he said. “I don’t like Pau Gasol or Phil Jackson. Phil is arrogant. Pau is soft. Kobe tries to bring out his toughness, but he’s still soft.”

Well then.

Durant’s answer? “They’re the reigning champs and still playing like it.” See the difference there? Like I said, Perk might take a little getting used to in OKC. I actually wondered to myself if these quotes were even real or if I was missing the point of some kind of fictional, made up quote piece.

Most felt when OKC got Perkins though that he was going to bring more than just defense and rebounding to the young Thunder. He was going to add toughness. Grit. And a new attitude. One of his biggest assets is the way he defends and muscles against a team like the Lakers and obviously, he's not intimidated by the defending champs a bit.

I'm sure a lot of those feelings come from the fact Perkins was formerly of the Celtics who, you know, don't like the Lakers a whole lot. Perkins has had his fill of Gasol and Jackson the past couple years, meeting the Lakers in the Finals twice in the past three seasons.

The Thunder's still waiting on Perkins' first appearance which could come as early as tonight versus the Wizards. There's some thought he might play a little before really settling into his starter's role Wednesday against the Heat. Either way, we'll be seeing Perkins in a Thunder jersey by the end of the week and it won't just be about the attitude he's bringing, but about what he adds on the floor too.

Why is Perkins always injured? I thought you couldn't pull fat like you can pull a muscle?

I agree with Aliens509, and oh. Perkins. If Pau is soft, why does he out rebound you? Why does he outscore you? Why is he better than you? Why would everyone take him over you? Oh right, because he is apparently "soft". And if Kobe is soft, why is he still the best closer in the game today and possibly ever. Can you hit a turnaround three with 2 seconds left for the win with 2 defenders in your face? I didn't think so... And if Phil is so arrogant, why does he have the 13 rings, (2 as a player and 11 as a coach) and you have how many? Maybe you can borrow some of Phil's since he can't wear all of his championship rings at once.

ummm...i love all the people on here trying to hate on Perkins lol. maybe the reason he doesnt play often is cuz when he does he plays hard..and when you play hard, injuries happen...ask KD about that ankle...or Griffin about that knee....ya'll are clowns. Pau DOES play soft and Phil IS arrogant...but its ok for Pau to play soft cuz he has Bynum, and just to refresh the minds of all of the Laker faithful, the year you all lost was the year you didnt have Bynum cuz Pau is soft and isnt a physical style of player and that shit just doesnt cut it sometimes....and sure, having enough rings that you have to get one fitted a lil differently does mean you get to be arrogant, but that doesnt mean you aren't...lets just understand that....and i like the people calling erryone soft....how you gna get mad cuz  a player calls another player soft and then go and call that guy soft? ya'll are a bunch of turkeys. and no, i am not a Celtics fan. im just sayin, the guy has a point.

Perkins, STFU please. Phil Jackson has every right to be arrogant, he has more rings than his fingers and as for Pau being soft, well, at least he's been playing more games in the last 3 years than Perkins did. Let see how far OKC will get in the playoffs and can't wait to see if they do play the Lakers so that Kobe, Pau and Phil can stick it up Perkin's S and see if he thinks otherwise of them, lol.

Wow. How come we didn't hear Perk say that after we got revenge on them for our second straight championship?

This guy has one ring and started one a team with 4 future HOFers.

The only reason Perk is saying that is because he know's his new team is going to get a chance to face LA this year.

i love it.lakers are yesterdays news and their reign will end this year and then watch them fall hard.I for one can't wait to see them lose.Kobe is a ball hog and unless he is on fire they will go down.I think alot of people could score 25 a game shooting 25 times a game.He will never be jordan and not even close.

You have just proven that you know little about the NBA.  Kobe's best games in the Finals last year were losses.  And if alot of people can score 25 a game if they shoot 25 times, why are there only 21 players who even average 20+ a game?

As far as the article goes, Perk needs to close his hole and stay healthy for a full season before he can open his mouth.  Any coach who has 11 rings is allowed to be arrogant and Gasol didn't look soft in the playoffs last year.  Especially not the Finals when he pulled down more boards than anyone else.

Isn't it humorous how the Lakers are 10-1 over their last 11, just in time for the playoffs, and all the wannabes come out of the woodwork to run their mouths?

I love all the guys on here calling the NBA players soft.  Kendrick Perkins is 6-10 280 lbs.  I'm not quite sure you have ever stood next to someone that size.  But I am willing to bet you'd think more than twice about calling him a pussy.
