Perkins calls Pau 'soft', Phil Jackson 'arrogant'

Most everyone said it when the Thunder acquired Kendrick Perkins. He’s going to bring something different to town. He’s tough, he’s big, he’s physical and he’s not shy about speaking his mind. If Chris Bosh is a fake tough guy, Perkins is every bit of real tough guy as you can get. And in a locker room that’s mostly tight-lipped with every cliche down pat and ready to use in any situation, Perkins has a candidness that we haven’t really ever seen here.

In the newest issue of ESPN the Mag , Perkins and Kevin Durant were both asked a couple of the same questions with both having mostly differing opinions. All of it was pretty interesting, but the question, “Lakers: Team to beat or old news?” brought out the best in Perk.

“Yesterday’s news,” he said. “I don’t like Pau Gasol or Phil Jackson. Phil is arrogant. Pau is soft. Kobe tries to bring out his toughness, but he’s still soft.”

Well then.

Durant’s answer? “They’re the reigning champs and still playing like it.” See the difference there? Like I said, Perk might take a little getting used to in OKC. I actually wondered to myself if these quotes were even real or if I was missing the point of some kind of fictional, made up quote piece.

Most felt when OKC got Perkins though that he was going to bring more than just defense and rebounding to the young Thunder. He was going to add toughness. Grit. And a new attitude. One of his biggest assets is the way he defends and muscles against a team like the Lakers and obviously, he's not intimidated by the defending champs a bit.

I'm sure a lot of those feelings come from the fact Perkins was formerly of the Celtics who, you know, don't like the Lakers a whole lot. Perkins has had his fill of Gasol and Jackson the past couple years, meeting the Lakers in the Finals twice in the past three seasons.

The Thunder's still waiting on Perkins' first appearance which could come as early as tonight versus the Wizards. There's some thought he might play a little before really settling into his starter's role Wednesday against the Heat. Either way, we'll be seeing Perkins in a Thunder jersey by the end of the week and it won't just be about the attitude he's bringing, but about what he adds on the floor too.

Perkins calls Pau 'soft', Phil Jackson 'arrogant'

Kendrick Perkins is a bum. He is not talented enough to make a decent circus clown. Was he not the sissy that was crying about getting traded from Boston? There is no crying in basketball(except for the Miami Heat). He is going to end up bringing the Thunder down just like he did the Celtics. He is just a talentless slob who takes up space. Being a Spurs fan, I dislike the Lakers as well but Gasol is 10 times the ball player this slob will ever be. He and many others are the reason the NBA is going downhill, a bunch of untalented, selfish, overpayed jerks running their mouth and shooting at people in clubs. If I were Perk, I would lose about a 100 pounds and start investing my money into something.

If I'm not mistaken, he is a NBA champion. Trust me, I hate Perkins...I think he is a punk, but he does have a right to speak because he earned his place as a starter on a team that has been in the finals 2 out of the past 3 years. The Celtics would have won game 7 last year if he didn't get injured and Doc Rivers said it himself. So chug that glass of "Hateraide" you are sippin on and get a life!!!!

There's a reason this post scored a 3. You have the grammatical skills of a 3-year old.

Who are you to say someone else talks to much? You lower the collective IQ of this entire message board.

Wow, you Thunder fans pretty much suck eh? Perk is right on both accounts. Jackson can be arrogant and Gasol can be soft. He didn't say they wern't successful, he just stated fact. The Lakers are great but that doesn't change other individual characteristics, such as Gasol is soft and Jackson is arrogant. And guess what? Kobe might just be a sociopath with preciously little conscience, but he's deffinitely not soft and he does work at making Gasol tougher. Just some truth to choke on thunder fans... Back to why you thunder fans suck...never mind playing nice nice with the big bad champs, either way they think we're all chumps until someone pushes them off the summit. Okay you don't actually suck, that wasn't nice of me. It is good to be respectful of course, but we must not fear the truth or the person who speaks it. Maybe Kobe plays better mad, but most people don't. It is just as likely Perks comments will put Gasol off his game trying to compensate for what he knows is his lack of toughness than it is he will put the screws to you guys any worse than usual. Gasol is excellent, but he's not as tough as some others, really so what, if he gets the job done. Jackson may be arrogant but he also gets the job done. Likely none of this gets in either of their heads and thats one reason they both enjoy success together. Perk is great and he'll back it up, but don't think the Lakers are going to care one way or the other if Perk says this or Durant says that. Just let the boys play ball and try their tricks to bring down the champs. Perk may even be wrong (i don't think so though) but that doesn't mean he isn't entitled to his opinion and it doesn't have to compromise any kind of team cohesion. You don't always agree with your wife do you? and you don't run out for therapy every time you disagree, you still work together as a unit with family goals and values different than personal goals and values. Hey, I didn't really say much here, but i did it in many words HA! Sorry for waisting our time together lol. PLAY BALL!!!

Perkins was right on one thing: Kobe  = SOFT.      Wanna be tough guy with his menacing underbite scary face. Tough guys don't rat out another player to the cops like Kobe did.
