Update (Sunday):

The New Jersey Nets decided not to totally throw in the towel and shut down point guard Deron Williams for the season, opting instead to sit him for three games before re-evaluating his ailing wrist.

Nets coach Avery Johnson told the Associated Press: "It's something that we know: rest -- not surgery -- is required. We'll treat him. We'll rest him."

Original Post:

The season could be over for Deron Williams. There's not a lot left, but after he tweaked his injured right wrist in the third quarter Friday night, there's talk he may just shut it down.

He was in a clear amount of pain and by the way he talked post game, he might be done.

"I love playing basketball," Williams told The Record. "I hate sitting out. I hate missing games. It's tough for me because I don't just want to sit out. It might be the best thing, but we'll see how it goes."

Of course the Nets aren't playing for anything at this point and while they actually flirted momentarily with a late push for the eight-seed (seriously), they've dropped their last two basically ending hopes of a miracle run. The five straight wins though that put them in that position was encouraging though.

But with nothing to play for and the fact that more losses equals maybe a better pick, coach Avery Johnson didn't souind optimistic. He said after the game that he was "very, very concerned" about Williams' situation.

Williams strained a tendon in his wrist in January and missed a handful of games for the Jazz. It has been bothering him since that time.

"I can't shoot," Williams said. "I think about it every time I take a shot. It affects me mentally and it's weighing on me."

This season isn't the big one for the Nets and Williams anyway. This summer is huge in showing their new star they're committed to winning as he can become a free agent in 2012. But if a lockout kills 2011-12, maybe Williams played his last game with the Nets. It's possible I guess.

Deron Williams to miss rest of the season?

C'mon man... you are a professional writer... use spell and grammar check.

"The five straight wins though that put them in that position was encouraging though ."

"souind "

Not to mention your terrible sentence structure and lack of proper punctuation. How exactly did you get this job?

Really? The NBA revolves around the Bulls? That's an hilarious theory, but.......no. Do you really think the Bulls caused Sloan to retire? Or any of the other things you mentioned? It's possible, I guess, like a blizzard in Tahiti is possible, but I really don't think so.
I'm a HUGE DWill fan, but if him sitting out helps the Jazz get a better pick, then I say rest up, DWill! You get you some beauty sleep and get that wrist back in shape!
PS - Much respect to your Bulls. Since you have THREE players who were on the Jazz last year, I can't help watching y'all win games. And it's fun. Brewer has always been one of my faves. Hope Boozer plays a higher percentage of games for you than he did for Utah. And good luck taking out the beasts of the East.

So D Rose continues to ruin Deron's season. I love it Bulls cause Sloan to retire, Deron to be traded, then Lebron to cry, and now a faked injury. Bulls!

Still one thing to play for: Spite (to all you Seinfeld fans, never was one). The more games the Nets lose, the more likely the Jazz are of getting a better draft pick. I was hoping the nets would push towards the end of the season so Utah wouldn't get a top pick they were figuring when they made the trade.

Dwight Howard is not a free agent.  I honestly think that if Dwight Howard goes anywhere through a trade demand it would be to Atlanta given the fact hie is from there.  That would allow Al Horford to move to the 4 position and a wing player could be traded for a point.

Deron Williams to miss rest of the season?

This sucks but I think Deron is going to sign long-term but the key factor in him signing long-term is for the Nets to make moves for Dwight Howard. If we can get Dwight, Deron will more than likely sign an extension and stick around as we move to brooklyn as a winning franchise.

What a waste! We definitly got the better of the 2 NY area trades. But if they cant sign him long term this will be a disaster again for the nets! Now hes hurt and out. So we may only have him for next season and nothing more! Not good!
