Jalen Rose pulled from TV after DUI cover-up

Former NBA player and current NBA analyst Jalen Rose has been pulled from the air due to a recent DUI arrest. Posted by Ben Golliver. jalen-rose

It's been a wild month for former University of Michigan basketball star Jalen Rose, who released a controversial documentary about his time with the Fab Five and was arrested on DUI charges, which he managed to keep out of the news for weeks.

USA Today reports that Rose has been pulled from the television airwaves by ESPN, where he is currently an NBA analyst.
ESPN is pulling Jalen Rose off the air after a report found the NBA basketball analyst waited almost three weeks to tell his employers about his arrest in Michigan on suspicion of drunk driving.
"Jalen has accepted full responsibility for his actions. Both parties are taking this very seriously, and as a result, we've agreed that he will not be on our air while he addresses this situation," said ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz in an email to Game On!
The Poynter Review Project reports that Rose was not contractually obligated to disclose his DUI arrest to ESPN.
ESPN encourages its "talent" -- those employees and contractors who are paid to appear on the air or write for the Web or magazine -- to tell their bosses about potentially embarrassing personal issues that might become public. But no written policy explicitly requires them to come forward.
This has really turned into a "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times" situation for Rose, whose documentary set ratings records but has now been overshadowed by his personal conduct and decision to bury negative headlines rather than own up to the situation.

Rose was in a tough spot and he clearly chose to do what was best for himself and his project rather than what was best for his employer. That type of decision can have all sorts of long-term consequences. Whether Rose is being temporarily muzzled or cast aside remains to be seen. For now, it will be a lot harder to hear Rose's side of the story.

Great, who will be his replacement, someone TURRIBLE like Barkley?  Former players are fine in most cases, as long as they can speak well and don't repeat themselves (unlike Barkley).  Rose's replacement had better be put through a rigorous interviewing process and not just be handed a job based on his name.

Hey BeeW try looking at facts and life not COLOR for a change.  You are the racist with your dumb phuking remarks
If you are referring to my post about ESPN, it was a joke (the "Uncle Tom" reference??? clearly something that was made popular from the Fab Five specal).  i will clarify next time so that it makes more sense to you.
If you are referring to my actual post, there is not a single mention of race anywhere in there.  Not sure where your interpretation (or name calling or rage, for that matter) comes from.

I stand by it.  Jalen Rose was not talking about Grant Hill NOW.  He even mentions in the documentary that he was jealous of what he had and it made him despise him for it.  Rose has since been on the record describing all of the respect that he has for Hill and how he has a totally different outlook on life.

So I'm sorry if that is looking too much at color for you, but don't presume that I need a "change" by not looking at "COLOR."

And please tell me the "facts" that I need to be looking at.  Because all that is in your post is namecalling and presumption.

Realdeal, you're exactly right. My guess is most of these people couldn't comprehend what they were watching. Which wouldn't be a surprise, because most of them lack reading comprehension. He wasn't fired people, just removed from the air while dealing with this. That means until it blows over, then he'll be back on the air. Amazing how many people comment without reading, or understanding what they've read.

The only ignorance are comments like these.  In the documentary you are referring to, Jalen Rose commented on how he felt towards Duke and players like Grant Hill AT THAT TIME .  Why is no one realizing this?  He was a 19 year old kid and had these thoughts.
You're not the only one that realizes this realdeal - but I am also frustrated about how so many people failed to realize what he was saying.

When Grant Hill's rebuttal came out in the New York Times (well written as it was), people immediately took his account for the truth even though they had never seen the documentary.  There are also plenty of blokes in the media who have played it up for the headline while irresponsibly covering up important pieces of that information.  Many people are sheep and like to be told what to think (whether or not they realize it).

I agree realdeal. peep holes that continue to talk about what he said when he was 19 have nothing else negative to say about him. When you see the clip and hear his comments now, you should know that he was an ignorant kid from the streets that has matured. ESPN is also exagerating, suspicion of driving under the influence.....please. anyone could get that charge, and you notice it only happens to famous people. Don't get me wrong  I don't like Jalen's personality, but don't use his comments from a long time ago against him. No Karma here......sounds like a plot to get him out.
