Jalen Rose pulled from TV after DUI cover-up

Former NBA player and current NBA analyst Jalen Rose has been pulled from the air due to a recent DUI arrest. Posted by Ben Golliver. jalen-rose

It's been a wild month for former University of Michigan basketball star Jalen Rose, who released a controversial documentary about his time with the Fab Five and was arrested on DUI charges, which he managed to keep out of the news for weeks.

USA Today reports that Rose has been pulled from the television airwaves by ESPN, where he is currently an NBA analyst.
ESPN is pulling Jalen Rose off the air after a report found the NBA basketball analyst waited almost three weeks to tell his employers about his arrest in Michigan on suspicion of drunk driving.
"Jalen has accepted full responsibility for his actions. Both parties are taking this very seriously, and as a result, we've agreed that he will not be on our air while he addresses this situation," said ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz in an email to Game On!
The Poynter Review Project reports that Rose was not contractually obligated to disclose his DUI arrest to ESPN.
ESPN encourages its "talent" -- those employees and contractors who are paid to appear on the air or write for the Web or magazine -- to tell their bosses about potentially embarrassing personal issues that might become public. But no written policy explicitly requires them to come forward.
This has really turned into a "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times" situation for Rose, whose documentary set ratings records but has now been overshadowed by his personal conduct and decision to bury negative headlines rather than own up to the situation.

Rose was in a tough spot and he clearly chose to do what was best for himself and his project rather than what was best for his employer. That type of decision can have all sorts of long-term consequences. Whether Rose is being temporarily muzzled or cast aside remains to be seen. For now, it will be a lot harder to hear Rose's side of the story.

The difference between Charles Barkley's  case and Jalen Rose's issue is that Charles admitted his arrest to his employers.  I believe if Rose had told his employers of his indiscretion, he probably would have been suspended with pay or reassigned until this mess is taken care of.  Once again, it shows the coverup is worse than the crime.  Maybe you folks who work in the service industry (fast food, hotel-motel, the Ohio State University NCAA compliance office and other places that turn jobs early and often) will get fired for getting pulled for a DUI.  The places I work will forgive someone if that person is willing to admit he or she has a problem and is getting professional help.

An another note, what are the problems with this Five Fab team and working in the real world?  Juwan Howard was busted for a DUI in 1996, Chris Webber was busted for possession in 1998 and now Rose busted for DUI.  While Ray Jackson and Jimmy King did not fare well in the NBA, they  stayed out of trouble and are living productive lives.  The three that made the NBA managed to put their feet in their mouths.  I guess to be successful in the NBA, you need the inability to stay grounded.

pabama - Are you kidding me?  You condone drunk driving? You have obviously never lost anyone to a drunk driver.  Only someone extremely ignorant would make a comment like that.

Yo, he just showin' what thug he be, know wha'im sayin.  He ain't no busta.  Ony unca toms done be fixin ta call a cab when they gets toe up.  No really, he should be really proud.  Grant Hill is way too intelligent to drive home on his own, when he can take a cab, since he has more money than he knows what to do with.  Maybe Jalen got to swap jailhouse stories with the "real homies" about how ignorant and irresponsible they are.  It's been a hard knocks life for Jalen in those mean streets, you know, with the man keepin' him down and all.

What business is it of ESPN's that he was arrested on DUI charges (which likely means three or four drinks-thanks MADD)? This is the mentality that permeates our society in this "Big Brother" world we live in, where a massive, "it knows best" government tries to dictate all of our actions and behavior.

way to bring Michael Vick into it d-bag.  You act like this has nothing to do with replacability

Replacability? Oh forgot the e, gotcha.  Yeah you tell em Jesse!!  These crazy people actually think Vick doesn't deserve to play football just because he hosed down a dog and put battery cables to each on of its ears because it lost a fight.  These people have no replacability
