The Miami Heat are thinking about signing veteran center Eddy Curry. Posted by Ben Golliver. eddy-curry

April Fool's Day has come and gone, so this is no joke: The Miami Heat are reportedly considering signing veteran big man Eddy Curry, a constant punchline around the league because of his weight problems, for the playoff stretch run.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Heat president Pat Riley is driving the decision to pursue Curry, who weighs at least 350 pounds.
The Miami Heat are progressing toward signing center Eddy Curry for the playoffs, front office sources told Yahoo! Sports.
After Heat president Pat Riley watched Curry work out in Chicago in recent days, he’s made plans to bring the 7-footer to Miami early next week for another workout and a medical physical with the ultimate objective to sign him, sources said.

One league source listed the probability of Miami signing Curry at “better than 50-50.” The Heat would need to cut a player for the playoffs, with rookie Dexter Pittman as a likely candidate to be waived.
The Palm Beach Post reported Riley's reaction on Saturday.
For the record, Riley said through a spokesman that he worked Curry out in Chicago with “a half-dozen other players,” that it was for “a big picture look,” and that anything else is “purely speculation.”
Curry began the season on the Knicks but was dumped on the Minnesota Timberwolves to help facilitate the trade that brought Carmelo Anthony to New York. He was then bought out of the remainder of his contract by the Timberwolves. He hasn't appeared in a single game this season and has played just 10 games combined since the beginning of the 2008-2009 season.

No question: the Heat are that desperate. They've struggled to get meaningful contributions from their aging front line all season and they recently received word that forward Udonis Haslem was still possibly a month away from returning from injury.

Going super small and playing Chris Bosh at the center spot and LeBron James at the power forward works against weaker teams during the regular season, but it's not a viable playoff strategy. The Heat need a space eater and Curry is adept at devouring things.

If you're looking for a reason to sell stock in the Miami Heat's playoff chances, this is a good one.

Report: Miami Heat to sign Eddy Curry?

To think the Bulls struck out in free agency has nothing to do with basketball but more to do with star struck individualism that is plaguing the NBA.  Carlos Boozer is a big time power forward great rebounder and high percentage shooter.  Kyle Korver is a dead eye long range shooter.  Ron Brewer is an excellent perimeter defender.  Combine that with team leader Derrick Rose, one of the top rebounders in the league in Noah who plays superb defense and a slasher in Deng along with depth that includes Taj Gibson and the Bulls had the best young chemistry of any team in the east and this was before the season started.  I was very happy with free agency.  Basketball is still a team game.  The Celtics stars are past their prime and they know how to play together.  The Bulls have all the pieces.  As for the Heat Pat Riley has forgotten the fundamentals that win basketball games and that is chemistry over superstar talent.

Noles.....you are the one that brought up Darko and all that I claimed was the difference in the two players......being that Curry is a fat piece of work.....nothing more.   I do not know or profess to know Curry personally.  Really don't want to.  But as a Bulls fan, I personally got to see him be a cancer to a young Bulls team that had a lot of promise despite his lackluster effort!  I gave him a break for the first 3 years but it then soon became apparant that the Bulls had made such a huge mistake drafting 2 high school kids that early in the same draft.  It took them a number of years to recover from that, which led to this last offseason and the spending flexibility that they had (thank God LePhony and company said no and headed to South Beach.
You may not take me serious because of the name my then 6 year old chose for me, but you at least responded to my opinion as I did to yours even though you might be a Seminoles fan!!

Only Mike Vick can miss 2 years and come back to play at a professional level in this day and age.

Noles, you do realize that Curry is one of the worst rebounding big men in the league? He also is a horrible defender. I have no idea why the Heat would even want to sign a guy like this.. Out of shape, fat, horrible work ethic, and is a ME first player.

Had no idea you knew the man personally, he hasn't played in a long time...I just happen to look at things in life positively, as opposed to being negative 24/7....Love to see you go into the lane against him, love to see that......He wouldn't even be a role guy, he's be a bench warmer who got 5 - 8 mins a freakin game.......he's not going to start....LOL...

I never ever heard anyone even prop Darko for one thing, til people like you after the fact....everyone sh!t on him!

I don't take you seriously based soley off having the word "Diddy" in your name , or is it Puffy today?

Great news for Bulls fans!  One less team to worry about in the playoffs!!  Eddie Curry is a cancer for any team that he would be on.  The reason he is overweight is because he doesn't care!!!  Funny that you would think that he would be a body to come off of the bench and rebound.  Curry does not play defense or rebound.  Never has and never will.  Difference between Curry and Darko......Darko at least kept his body in shape!

Having seen him in person, if the Heat is THAT desperate, they're already done.  He wasn't in shape when he was alleged to be.  I can't even imagine how bad this is going to look.
