Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported today and NBA commissioner David Stern later confirmed that the NBA Board of Governor's has extended the deadline for the Maloof brothers to apply for relocation of the Kings to Anaheim. In a Friday afternoon conference call, Stern said the deadline had been extended to May 2 http://twitter.com/daldridgetnt/sta

The Board heard presentations from both the Maloofs regarding relocation and a group from Sacramento featuring Mayor Kevin Johnson regarding the Kings staying in Sacramento. The Sacramento contingent brought information about inducements that were available for the team to stay, and Stern said that there was enough to support further investigation from the NBA BOG's relocation committee.

Get this: the head of the relocation committee? Clay Bennett. You know, Thunder owner/Sonics mover Clay Bennett. Whoops. That's not going to go over well in the press.

Stern stressed that the extension was based off a  need to undestand the complexity of both proposals, but specifically the presentation from the Mayor's office. Stern did say that Ron Burkle's public comments regarding a desire to purchase the Kings from the Maloofs, or another team to relocate to Sacramento was "not a high priority" for the board

Stern also commented that he believes the Southern California/LA/Anaheim market can sustain three teams.

Seattle and Kansas City would be better than having a 3rd team in L.A.

This team should really be headed to Las Vegas.  The Maloofs would be right at home there and it's a large enough market to do really well.  You could sell out half the lower bowl on a given night just to tourists and keep a steady line of celebrities at the game with the still close proximity to Hollywood.  The Las Vegas Kings even sounds alright unless someone screws it up and names them the Las Vegas Craps...

It won't be sweet...because you have Tyreke and DeMarcus only...One drives cars with murderers in the passenger seat, and one has a terrible attitude.  Marcus Thornton is your lone hope...and please don't start about free agency...

Orange County can and will support a NBA team.  We are not Los Angeles, not matter what the  Angels and the media continue to profess.  We have a modern facility with good access.  A history  of supporting teams (Angels and Ducks).  And of course  most of us have a  distaste for Los Angeles and everything for which it stands.  This will make for natural rivals.  It will be sweet to kick some Laker and Chipper butts.

Clay Bennett. Really? Seriously, great work, David Stern. You continue to prove yourself the most incompetent commissioner in sports each day.

A third team in the LA market?  Give me a break.  If you're going to move the team try markets like Kansas City, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, or even Las Vegas.  These areas either have new arenas or have shown strong fan interest/support for anchoring a NBA team.  I wonder what the Clippers and especially the Lakers feel about more potential competition for their fan bases.

ROFL! Clay Bennett is head of the committee? The NBA really does hate its fans.
