Boston Celtics forward Glen Davis calls out New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire. Posted by Ben Golliver.

No one has ever accused Boston Celtics forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis of biting his tongue. Davis, as brash off the court as he is goofy on the court, has lobbed the first public volley in the big market battle between the Celtics and the New York Knicks.

In advance of Game 1 of the first round series between the two teams, Davis called out Knicks All-Star forward Amar'e Stoudemire, stating bluntly that he gives Stoudemire too much credit and that it's not all that difficult to defend him. Here's Davis' take as relayed by the New York Post.
"It's really not that hard," Davis said. "I don't know why. I've been tripping. I give him too much credit. I just have to make him react to me, not me react to him because it's too late. If he gets one step on you, he's too strong and too quick. You just have to make him play your game."
Stoudemire, meanwhile, provided a quick retort to the New York Daily News.
"That's all right," Stoudemire said after shootaround on Sunday. "Me and Glen Davis (are) on two different platforms right now. He's a solid player, does a great job for his ball club. But we are on two different platforms."
On the season, Stoudemire averaged 25.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Against Boston, he put up 24.0 points and 8.3 rebounds, virtually identical to his yearly numbers.

In other words, Davis and his teammates have not yet had any meaningful impact defending Stoudemire. Whether these comments will meaningfully motivate Stoudemire for the series, however, is a key storyline to watch as they open play on Sunday.

Glen Davis, Amar'e Stoudemire exchange trash talk

Yo GoPokes, screw the Knicks and, Amar'e. Who cares if he plays with emotion or not result is going to be the same, the Celtics win. The Knicks are going to gain the most coming into next year? Get real. You should be a Knicks fan, you sound like one already. Getting ready for next year ?

Yo  , this is just another classic case of the Celtics whipping the Knicks azz. A simple role player? Whose has won an NBA Championship Amare ? Don't think so. What counts anyway is the scoreboard at the end of the game. I think it said Celtics 87-  Knicks 85. Yeah I'm sure of it, Amare lost, Davis won. For real though show me any trash talk. A player can't give an opinion without it being trash talk now? Ridiculous.

Glen Davis, Amar'e Stoudemire exchange trash talk

If this is trash talk I'd like to see what they say when they are actually mad at each other.  Glen, I love you buddy but you've gotta know your role and your role is to fill in for Shaq and O'Neal when they can't be on the floor - take a few shots (hopefully make them) and go back to the bench.  I'm a Celtics fan and I know that Amar'e is the real deal - he's done amazing things for NY and now that he has some pieces around him they can push the Celtics to the limit.  I still believe that the Celts win this series but I think that it will be an eye opener for both sides with NY gaining the most leading into next year.  Welcome out of obscurity NY Knicks - welcome back.  Glen, careful with the mouth - you don't want to have Amar'e playing with emotion in addition to his athletic skill.   I give credit where credit is due - solid game NY - solid game.

I love it!!

The bottom line is it does not make a difference what players say..the scoreboard is the only thing that counts.  As you see CBS jumps all over this stuff...

Glen Davis, Amar'e Stoudemire exchange trash talk

Why is Glen Davis trying to provoke Stoudemire? I understand there is a heated rivalry and all that intensity and what-not, but why would you say anything at all? There's no reason, especially when you are Glen Davis. Stoudemire's retort was just right...they are on different platforms. And I agree with the others, this is just the media trying to hype up the matchup, not trash talk at all. Whatever, the Celtics will put the Knicks away and this will just be another meaningless article.

Glen Davis, Amar'e Stoudemire exchange trash talk

This is just a classic case of a simple role player trying to the attention he can not garner through his play. Amare matched his season averages with nearly identical numbers against the Celtics. This is no different than that dumbass Kendrick Perkins running his mouth. Amare will dunk all over the Celtics, especially mr. 2 inch vertical Davis!
