After parting ways with Rick Adelman earlier in the week, the Rockets are searching for their next coach. What kind? The next Gregg Popovich or Bill Belichick, so they say.

Who fits that profile? Kind of hard to say, but here's one name that has come up as of today: Mavs assistant Dwane Casey. According to ESPN.com, the Mavs will grant permission but would prefer to delay the interview until after Dallas' first-round series with Portland wraps up.

Casey has been a hot name for a head coaching position for a while. His name has already popped up for future head coaching positions that aren't even open yet. He's been the Mavs top assistant for a good stretch now and is definitely looking to move back into the big seat.

Other than Casey, Fox 26 Sports in Houston has reported former Atlanta coach Mike Woodson is interested in the position and the Rockets have contacted him for an interview. Current Rockets assistant Jack Sikma is a name on the short list along with Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank and Hornets assistant Michael Malone.

One name you can remove though? Elston Turner who has reportedly informed the team he has no interest in the head coach opening.

Do any of those guys sound like the next Pop or Belichick? No they don't, but that's the point. Nobody knew Pop or Belichick were Pop or Belichick when they were hired either. Everybody is looking for that next big name in coaching. Daryl Morey is definitely concentrating very hard on this. It'll be interesting to see what he comes up with.
