Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest has been suspended for Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks. Posted by Ben Golliver.

On Wednesday night, we noted that Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest was ejected after he clotheslined Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea in the closing seconds of Game 2. His punishment won't stop there.

On Thursday, the NBA announced that Artest would be suspended for Game 3 in Dallas, set for Friday night. The NBA ruled that the play was a Flagrant Foul 2.
Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers has been suspended one game without pay for swinging his arm and striking the face of the Dallas Mavericks’ J.J. Barea, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. Artest’s contact has also been classified by the NBA as a Flagrant Foul Two.
The incident occurred with 24.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks’ 93-81 victory over the Lakers at Staples Center on May 4. Artest will serve his suspension tomorrow when the Lakers visit the Mavericks at American Airlines Center for Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Artest, L.A.'s starting small forward, is averaging 10.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in eight playoff games.

In Artest's absence, look for Lakers' sixth man Lamar Odom to see his minutes increase, but Lakers.com reports that reserve small forward Matt Barnes is expected to start in place of Artest because Lakers coach Phil Jackson "does not like going away from his usual big man rotations."

L.A. trails Dallas in the series, 2-0.

Here's the video of his foul on Barea again.

Didn't I see that Artest won some sort of citizenship award this year? Well this was more of his true colours. Unbelievable, inexcusable: one game suspension is getting off easy!

you have a point that most people going to laker games arent legit fans. i however was at that game, and i booed. ive been a die hard laker fan for years, pre kobe. you wanna know why i booed? its because it was a sorry performance by the lakers. its been frustrating to go to previous games when most people are on facebook instead of watching the game. i booed because i spent 300 dollars to spend my birthday at staples center cheering the lakers who gave a weak and lazy performance. the section i was sitting in was finally filled with a raucous crowd, trying to get the noise going. it was refreshing to see some sort of emotion from a laker crowd. and as much as i love pau, lets face it he is playing scared. i booed phil jackson unexplainable substitution patterns. these kind of reactions are what makes msg in new york an atmosphere where players and crowds love to play. i booed lamar odoms blown layups and steve blakes lazy passes causing turnovers. the lakers are my favorite team of all time, however its easy to see at this point dallas just wants it more. there wouldnt be boos if the crowd felt like the lakers were giving an all out effort.

I like BigDSports' response.  There's a reason for Phil to put Artest out there, but he doesn't necessarily know what it is.  It's not to be the first option on offense, or to take cheap fouls on little guys when the game is over.

That was a very dirty play, but way more stupid than dirty or delivered with force. Not a Flagrant2 in my opinion. Ron has been smarter than that in past few years, however his past has no doubt always kept the officals on the cautious side against Artest. I knew this was exactly how the league was gonna react, the second I saw it happen. Ron Ron  too bad, after all your hard work to rebuild your reputation, you blast it back and this may end up being how your remembered. The loss was really a coaching loss, but overratted PJackson  won't step up, instead he will hang his players out to dry, as always. The other perpetrators of this loss have to be the band wagon Laker unfaithful wanna be hollywood biatches who find it too blaise to publicly cheer, clap, or encourage your team. I was embarrased to see the fans Booing Jeering, Cursing the reigning world champion LOS ANGELES LAKERS. Do the fans think the Lakers will be champs every year. That was a punk arse crowd. We are still the Lakers and every single Laker deserves to hold their head up high after this great season, Cheered by their fans. I think we stand a better chance of winning in Dallas. At least we can expect animosity from the crowd

Rod Artest is a baby and needs to get out there and learn to play basketball. If the guy can't control his temper why are the Lakers holding on to him. They'd be better without him. Artest is a hothead with no emotional barrier. why we pay guys like that millions to play, i don't know......

The blame is on Phil Jackson
There are so many things wrong with this statement I'll just pick the most obvious.  Phil Jackson wasn't the moron who hit the guy AFTER a foul had already been called, who wasn't shooting, was in the backcourt, and with 20 second left in the game.  This wasn't some basketball play gone awry.  There was no basketball play there, and the blame is entirely Artest's.  There was zero reason to do what he did from a basketball standpoint - he simply wanted to hit somebody.  What a fool.

But I confess a "star" should know how he should behave.

Although I'm a mavs fun I m not pleased with the decision. Sure he hits him but not so hard that that he should be suspended for the next game. Come on this are the playoffs and a little fight makes it more interesting. And I could see a clear intension that Artest wants to hurt him. Sogive im a flagrant Type 1 and everything would be alright but a suspension is to hard.

Tried to hold him up "after"  jumping into him with the clothesline- that was a very hard hit that snapped Barea's neck back- only reason he tried to hold him up was because the thug realized too late that his anger problems were seen by thousands including the guy in stripes- if he would not have tried to hold him up he may have neede to post bail
